Crying For This

A year or two or some other time ago, I saw a facebook post announcing a compilation release on the general theme of castration.  I signed up as quickly as I could, with the (admittedly not so original) idea of using an Alessandro Moreschi sample as the basis for my track.  Moreschi was, of course, the "last castrato."  You probably know what a castrato is, but if you don't, you can research it.  Thomas Nola even made a movie about a fictional one!(THE BIG P.S.-- as so often happens, this compilation never came out, so here is my track as a special Soundcloud gift, rediscovered today while I was looking for something else in my iTunes.)

From 2013.  Ramones cover track by me that was supposed to appear on a Ramones tribute compilation that never materialized.  Was used instead for a one year birthday tribute CD for a little girl named Hera.  (More info here: http://www.choeurnoir.be/CD001.html )  Not sure how any Ramones living or dead would feel about this version, but I'm posting to Soundcloud on 7/12/14, the day after the last of the original members died.  RIP everyone.

John's cover of my song "Sandra Lindsey" originally appeared on THE APPEAL OF DISCARDED ORTHODOXY, A TRIBUTE TO DAVID E. WILLIAMS, released on Old Europa Cafe, 2007.  
I believe this is the only digital copy (other than those that are offered as bootleg mp3's on sites written in a language I don't understand).

Famous Blue Raincoat

Commissioned by Lithuanian Radio on the occasion of “Vilnius - Culture Capital of Europe 2009”. Premiered by Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (conductor Juozas Domarkas) on September 26th, 2009 in Vilnius.
“A Thousand Doors To The World” is a personal reflection and musical offering to the city of Vilnius, Lithuania where I lived most of my life.
The sources of inspiration for this piece were found in the literary and historical texts about Vilnius, in old photographs from the 19th century and old maps where places in the city were depicted which no longer exist. The title of the piece is a line from Moshe Kulbak’s poem “Vilnius”. Three sections of the piece flow into each other without interruption and each of them has its own contextual world of meanings/subtexts/contexts revealed through various quotations about Vilnius.
