As summer fades and the days get shorter, Souleance have been hard at work in the kitchen cooking up their new EP ‘Tartare’. The French production duo of Fulgeance (Ed Banger / Musique Large) and Soulist (What The Funk? / The P Show) have delivered another EP of surefire party starters, taking the sample-heavy template of previous releases, and adding a deeper disco-house edge to stunning effect.
The 8-track EP opens with ‘Hustle’ - a clear statement of intent from Souleance - the shuffling synth-heavy percussion signposting the slight shift in direction, but with it’s sights aimed firmly at the dance floor. The track also features regular video collaborator Emile Sacre on keys and vocoder, this time in his music production guise as VECT. Many of you will be familiar with ‘Secoue’ (released earlier this summer as a digital only single). The Kompa-influenced track has become a DJ's favourite over the festival season and is now finally available on vinyl. Elsewhere ‘Ratatouille’ starts in more conventional Souleance territory with an infectious horn-led break, before developing into a Giorgio Moroder-inspired disco stomper. Also of note is the elastic bassline- fuelled ‘I Got It’, which displays a lightness of touch and subtlety rarely seen in dance music. This more mature sound, fused with the DJ-friendly identity of earlier releases shows the progression the duo have made since their debut back in 2009.
The artwork that has been a feature of Souleance’s releases is present again, with Alice Dufay providing stunning illustration in her idiosyncratic style. The EP also features two remixes - Debruit remixes the title track, blending the Souleance sound and putting his unique stamp on it - in his own words ‘an imaginary place where ancient West Africa cohabits with 80’s New York’. Finally Dutch newcomer Uffe takes on ‘New York’, retwisting the keys to create an MPC-style house groove - the perfect conclusion to Souleance’s best EP yet.

"Selallane" by The Black Five is the third track made available for streaming prior to the release of the compilation "Gumba Fire: Bubblegum Soul & Synth Boogie in 1980s South Africa", out on 9 March 2018 on Triple Vinyl, CD and digital.

The compilation features 16 rare cuts handpicked by Miles Cleret (Soundway) and DJ Okapi (Afrosynth) highlights the period that nestles in between the ‘70s (where American-influenced jazz, funk and soul bumped shoulders with local Mbaqanga) and the ‘90s when Kwaito and eventually house music ruled the dancefloors of urban South Africa.

These tracks have been made available for the first time on digital and first time on vinyl outside of their original release.

Natif de la Guadeloupe, Edmony Krater a été elevé au son du Gwo Ka, cette percussion traditionnelle des caraïbes. Jeune trompetiste, Edmony a monté avec des amis le groupe à la fin des années 70 le groupe GWAKASONNE, qui mixait tradition gwo ka et musique moderne (jazz, soul, spiritual).
En s’installant ensuite en metropole, il jouera avec de nombreux musiciens antillais mais aussi Bernard Lubat et claude Nougaro, puis en 1988, il enregistre l’album “Tijan Pou velo”, qui est un hommage aux musiciens des musiques “racines” dont le percussioniste Tijan disparu quelques années plus tôt.
Cet album, devenu culte et précieux, a été réedité en 2016 par Digger’s Digest et Heavenly sweetness, suscitant l’interet des medias et autres DJ comme Gilles Peterson.
20 ans après, la magie de la musique d’Edmony est toujours intacte et c’est suite à plusieurs concerts, que Heavenly Sweetness a décidé de poursuivre l’aventure commune et enregistrer un nouvel album.
Un album de musique antillaise illuminé  d’arrangements jazz, de claviers, de pianos électriques et de trompettes, les cordes de basse tendues vers le funk, où le battement du tambour ka reste le moteur principal qui actionne les autres éléments, la colonne vertébrale qui s’assouplit quand vient le moment de la fête mais se durcit quand l’heure est au combat.

PREMIERE: Edmony Krater - An Ba Jouk (Radio Edit)[Heavenly Sweetness]

"Feeling You" is the first single from David Marston's debut album. The song that highlights the hedonism often associated with nightlife and music culture. The song was written by David Marston and Craig Williamson during a studio session at Marston’s former home in Kingston, Jamaica. It begins with Williamson’s crooning voice scatting and making seemingly indiscernible melodic utterances over a skeletal rhythm. The instrumental soon starts to gain body and muscle, gradually morphing into an hypnotic beat with a swirling arpeggiated synth, punchy bass hits, and stomping drums. Williamson cooly sings about seduction, over-indulgence, and drug consumption during a late night out in the club. 

Notably, Italian DJ and production duo, Lowheads, have crafted a first-rate classic house remix of the song, as well as a dub mix that make up additional tracks on the release. In contrast to the trippy, down-tempo quality of the original, Lowheads’ two renditions give the song an exemplary and buoyant dancoor-floor makeover that are extremely DJ friendly.
