In the past few months, we’ve found ourselves returning to a remarkable corner of the Spanish midlands, where music thrives in a unique and unpredictable way. Perpendicular Festival has become the place where artists embrace spontaneity, crafting moments that feel truly alive.

This time, we’re focusing on o.utlier, an Irishman based in London whose debut album Alaya on Appian Sounds left an unforgettable mark last year. A co-founder of Titrate Records and a resident DJ for Astral Industries, o.utlier has mastered the art of balancing a diverse range of sounds, from drone to intricate polyrhythmic techno. If you’re familiar with his work, you already have a sense of the musical journey he can take you on.

It was a bright Saturday afternoon when he took the stage, easing the crowd into the day with laid-back broken beats and serene atmospheres. There was an unspoken magic as the music slowly drew everyone in, almost imperceptibly. Beneath a canopy of shade, the crowd swayed, their movements guided by his subtle changes in tempo and tone. Before long, the energy began to build, smooth, natural, and unforced, until the atmosphere shifted into something more adventurous.
Suddenly, the set took a turn, diving into murkier territory. Darker tones emerged, with dub influences and intricate rhythms that seemed to challenge both body and mind. Over the course of nearly two and a half hours, o.utlier created a magnetic experience that felt both cerebral and visceral—a true journey through the unexpected.

This performance was a special one; it was a shared moment at a gathering of kindred spirits. Do you really need another reason to hit play? We think not.

DSS 094 comes from the hands and mind of Vardae, a French artist with the ambition of breaking away from the genre barrier, to explore new sounds territory around the love of psychedelic music.

About his approach he said: "Inspired by a ritualistic journey, this session goes from a breathe meditation to an ecstatic state of movement."

Blume graces the Untitled 909 mix series with a playful session that toys with the idea of slowing down whilst staying in motion, an always shifting state of being, with a psychedelic thread running throughout.

Blume is an artist whose creative journey spans continents, emotions, and a diverse range of musical influences. Born in Buenos Aires and now based in Berlin, Blume’s path into electronic music is deeply rooted in personal experiences that shape both her DJ sets and the ethos behind her record store, Format Wars.

Constantly inspired by the world around her, whether it’s the transience of Berlin, the vibrant chaos of Buenos Aires, or the quiet, reflective moments in her studio, watching autumn winds stir the streets,Blume's connection to music runs deep, starting with the folklore of Argentina, the haunting live presence of Underworld, and a fateful introduction to Aphex Twin that forever shifted how she listens to and engages with sound. These moments have contributed to her story-like approach to music curation, where every set feels like an emotional, almost cinematic experience.

Currently winding down a busy year, Blume is shifting gears—scaling back on DJing to focus on her own musical production. As she prepares to dive into sound design in 2025, Blume remains an artist who is always evolving—whether behind the decks, running her label, or simply embracing the quiet moments that inspire her next step.

In the accompanying interview, we chat to Blume about her life changing introductions to electronic music, how her dad brought music to life for her when she was growing up, her journey founding the digital record store Format Wars and the experience of bringing it to a physical space, how living in South America and Europe has influenced her work and more.

Untitled 909 Podcast 207: Blume

It is a pleasure to have gifted Switzerland based artist @timnah-sommerfeldt with us for the 26th episode of our Herbarium mix series! 🌱
She composed a trippy journey through ambient, dnb and grey area - a really deep and introspective ride. She created a very coherent story around her choice of plant, the European beech. 

Here's a little backstory by TImnah about her choice:
"I chose the native, beautiful European beech (Fagus sylvatica) because it serves as an important point of reference for me during my mushroom walks in the forest. Among all the trees there, it is especially the beech that always guides me.
A large mushroom community lives in symbiosis with this impressive tree. It's fascinating to observe how this natural cycle begins anew each year—from summer into winter.

~ The coexistence of the beech with fungi begins when the delicate root of a beech seedling comes into contact with the soil and the mycorrhizal fungi living within it. It only ends long after the tree's death, when the dead beech wood is completely decomposed. ~

My mix was recorded after a snowy, cold November day in the forest and is joyfully dedicated to the European beech, which gifted me a delicious dinner 🍄‍🟫🦪🌳🤍"

About Timnah
Timnah lives, works and feeds the cats in the Northwestern extremities of Switzerland. Brought up in her parents’ jazz clubs and deeply influenced by her brother’s love for dub and soundsystem culture, she started DJing just after the massively feared Millenium Bug had threatened to offset our relation to time and space. Dedicated to drawing her own map of late 20th century sonic landscapes, she spent the early 2000s exploring 90s electronics including breakbeat, triphop, ambient techno, drum&bass, house and jungle. After a short but sweet excursion into producing in the early 2010s, Timnah dedicated herself fully to spinning the wheels and transversing genres, gravitating towards her current signature sound that spans immersive sound baths and intergalactic carpet rides in half-time. Timnah is a member of Amenthia Recordings and a recent addition to the A Walking Contradiction Collective.
