We open our series with an artist we have been huge fans of for well over a decade - Luke Hess.

Born in 1980 in Metro Detroit and subject to the city's mid-90's warehouse parties, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement.  His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance-floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood.

This incredible mix was recorded just a few weeks ago at Kenneth Christiansens "Dub Nation" event at About Blank, Berlin. Luke showcases his skills throughout, with tight, precise blends that he's made his signature. We are truly honoured to have one of our favourite ever artists open this series.

The Frontier 001 - Luke Hess

A late night in September 2024, deep in Koenji, Tokyo—hopping between listening bars, cold craft beers in hand, surrounded by solid company. Takashi Mori showed us around, navigating the city’s underground pulse with ease. Big thanks for that, mate—what a night.

Off the back of that, we knew we had to get him in for a mix. Takashi delivers a deep, finely tuned session that locks you into his world of Ambient and Dub Techno. Precision-crafted, immersive, and straight-up essential listening.

Takashi first caught our attention with his release on Slope Point, but he's been a fixture in Tokyo’s scene long before that—a staple DJ spinning dub techno and other deep, hypnotic cuts across the city. By day, he works as a mixing engineer, fine-tuning sonics, and when he’s not behind the decks, he’s behind the lens—documenting Tokyo’s streets in stark black and white. A creative soul through and through.

Moon Patrol is the musical project of Irina Kotik (@irina-kotik) and Gilles Wasserman (@gilleswasserman), co-founders of the Brooklyn-based platform Delayed (@itsdelayed). Their work has appeared on labels like Oslated, On Board Music, SoHaSo, Huinali, and others. Moon Patrol drifts between frequencies—half dream, half pulse. Shaped by shifting moods and shared silence, their sound moves from warm electronica and lush ambient to shadowy techno and back again.

Cologne based electronic aficionado Laenk contributes a soothing mix flavored with dreamy soundscapes, inviting his listeners on a deep journey through the majestic realms of Dub Techno. Laenk has carefully curated a selection of tunes by the likes of the ever delivering Federsen, Alessandro Crimi, Giacomo Pellegrino, Gradient & many more.

Born in south-east Turkey, Banu is a DJ, producer, and sound artist who uses music as a political tool - a vehicle to express deep emotion and challenge systems of oppression. Her work sits at the intersection of contemporary art and activism, weaving together participation, social design, ecology, and feminist and queer theory into powerful multimedia installations where sound takes center stage.

This mix is a beautiful reflection of Banu’s multifaceted practice. Blending immersive soundscapes, Downtempo, and exceptional sound design, it’s a sonic journey that speaks to both the personal and the political - featuring some of our favorite artists and sounds we hold close. As we enjoy the summer season, we are delighted to welcome Paragon, the talented curator of the 315th Deep Breakfast mix.

Paragon means a person is regarded as a perfect example of a particular quality. Always open to exploring different sounds, as of lately, Paragon has been discovering more relaxing or different realms of electronic music or IDM. Nowadays you can find in his selections mostly from ambient, broken beats of techno to different types of drum n bass. He has been the curator of the podcast series Parallel Perception, where you can also experience his vision and taste in electronic music.

"This set is part of my Sunday morning routine. Me and a cup of coffee and records that I put in for the quiet mornings. I picked some of my favorite records that I keep coming back on a regular basis. It's not super polished but it's honest something that helps me to wake up and have a good day. Hope it keeps you good company, wherever and whenever you listen to it."
