Samuel van Dijk (VC-118A) and Rasmus Hedlund return for a third plate in their ongoing exploration of roots-minded dub techno with Jamaica-born, Finland-based vocalist Benji. 

The vocals set the tone on both these new tracks, as Benji meditates on internal and external forces with his own brand of old-soul wisdom. Better Way is an upfront steppa reflecting on the need for new solutions to solve humanity enduring problems, while Child Was I travels deeper inwards to highlight the importance of lived experience in shaping the inner self as we grow. 

Alongside the vocal versions, Dialog offer up the instrumental versions of the tracks for the full dubwise listening experience, letting every melancholic synth lick and echo chamber drum trail shine through as their project continues to forge its own path in the dub techno tradition.

For several months now, I have been taking the time to explore Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ book Women Who Run with the Wolves. She specifically discusses the notion of Rio Abajo Rio, the River beneath the river, which echoes the depths of the unconscious and the instinctive wisdom that flows within us, even when we are unaware of it. She uses this metaphor to illustrate the primal life force and feminine intuition that exist beneath the surface of our daily lives.
This underground river symbolizes natural instincts, ancestral knowledge, and creativity that continue to flow within us, even when they are sometimes stifled by social or personal pressures. A book that is both inspiring and unsettling, as it deeply resonates with my life’s quest today.

This set is a search for reconnection with Rio Abajo Rio, a journey toward my purest and deepest essence—my inner power—in order to reclaim my intuitive nature.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, this set is woven with Ambient, Techno, Breaks, Abstract, and D’n’B sounds, all tied together by a percussive and organic universe.

"I have been immersed in music since I was a child. My parents were involved in the Hard Rock scene. On my mother’s side, part of my family is from Brittany, so Breton music also played a big role in my childhood.

When I was old enough to go out, I dived into so many different scenes—Tribe, Hardcore, and Trance through Raves and Free Parties, Techno to House, Dubstep to D’n’B through clubs and festivals, Dub, Experimental Music, Noise, Ambient, Punk through alternative spaces and squats. This opened countless doors for me, leading to interconnected musical worlds.

Later, my job at Macadam also broadened my musical perspective, thanks to its artistic direction. That's why I generally need to move between different musical styles. My musical approach is entirely based on my feelings, emotions, moods, and, of course, the connection with the crowd when I play.

This is also why I love b2b sets—they push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to discover even more.

The next four mixes will be visualised by photographs taken by Joris Van Den Einden for his 'Glass Land' project, which delves into the Dutch Westland region and it's many greenhouses as part of his thesis.

"For Cenote I composed a live environment that is a synthesis of sound spaces I've travelled through and recorded over the last few years. Born of rhythm, my music is also made up of ethereal, sometimes generative, sound spaces. This recording, made up of three main chapters, flows finely, like the water we try to hold in our hands into a crystalline dialogue between the sounds of life and the melodies that flow from them. Another lovely memoir of friendship here with the ever talented Swiss artist phrex, who works under various aliases, including @seduction-dream-dust, with Animix #174. Juj is a beautiful person inside and out and his musical outputs are a reflection of his multifaceted character - often referencing his middle eastern heritage. In his animix, a wild dnb speed journey, filled with adventure and emotion, awaits.

Beyond political and social nods, phrex has an inredible ability to merge genres and styles in a way that remains seemingly fresh and unique - which, in 2025,  is harder and harder to come by. We originally met at random, as I strolled past a stage whilst he was playing an ambient set at Waking Life in 2022. The self-made remix of "Alone" by Olive he was playing drew me in and led me to ask for an ID. in return, he gifted me a cassette of the song. A beautiful memory of music exchange and friendship, and i'm really happy to finally have him in the series.
