@galtier returns to Plasma Sources with Mainframe Incantation, a five-track release marking the 7th position on the label’s roster. First appearing on the Multi Source compilation earlier this year, Galtier now moves beyond the mechanical, sci-fi focus toward a sound that fuses technology with the divine, inhabiting the liminal space between worlds. 

Rooted in the earliest traditions of percussive music as a vehicle for altered states, Mainframe Incantation channels ritual energy through synthesised and digitised means, closing a cultural loop from origin to present. The result is a tension between the spiritual and the mechanical — feverish, dissonant, and hypnotic. 

The journey begins with "Ausmisis States", a restrained, technical opener of squelchy basslines and coarse pads, setting the stage for contact. "Tincture Pump" bursts through next—erratic, bouncy, and high-velocity, with a swelling distortion lead that injects chaotic energy straight to the bloodstream. 

In "Tink Cycle", the pace slows into a groove-laden trance, its caustic bassline dragged forward by steady kicks and splintering snares. At the centre lies "Hex Crawler", a gurgling, otherworldly entity speaking in alien tones before breaking into a vast, unearthly climax. 

Closer "Phantom Tremors" hurls us back toward reality with hasty techno-inflected percussion, metallic strikes, and roaring sub-frequencies. Pulsing hardware bleeps push the final surge, sealing the ritual in a haze of digital energy.

In 2013, Different Circles launched with Weightless Volume One, a compilation that helped define a new minimalist aesthetic in electronic music. 

Twelve years later and after a six-year pause, the label returns with its tenth release: Ping Volume One.

Like weightless, ping isn’t a genre. It's an approach to anchoring and propelling sound without relying on the steady pulse of a kick drum.

Instead, a single percussive hit — the ping — holds the centre. Dry and high in the mix, or echoing distantly through space, it becomes a temporal anchor. Around it, the rest of the track can undulate, bend, float or collapse.

The term first appeared on Mumdance’s radio show, where playing “the pingy ones” from the Different Circles back catalogue became a running joke. In the Discord community, it evolved into a shared language, with memes, lore and a mascot known as the Ping Devil.

In 2023, Mumdance aired The “Ping Report” a radio show that gathered everything into a coherent moodboard. It included original tracks made by Discord members for the show and set the foundations. From there, more producers began making ping intentionally, and over time, Ping Volume One took shape.

As the idea came into focus, Logos and Mumdance noticed that much of the Different Circles back catalogue, if not explicitly weightless, could now be understood through the lens of ping. It was a sound they had been drawn to long before they had a language to describe it.

Ping Volume One is a document of shared instinct. A collection of tracks connected by feel rather than formula, shaped by years of dialogue between a community of artists and listeners who were drawn to the same sounds & ideas before they had a name.

A new addition to the NHS roster, Steel Traxx joins at the 34 mark with three surging, buzzy club offerings applicable across a span of factors; energy, pace, duration of evening, yet Cohesive in their strident hypnotism. The Manchester-based producer carries a short, yet pronounced legacy of productions, having honed a definable approach to the brand of wonky, eclectic club music. Initial outings via a debut EP on London’s Erbium Records and single-track features on Manchester’s own Rubber Works demonstrate a clear vision and intention of sound, furthered only by the entrance into NHS territory.

A delicate balance of synthetics drenched in unnatural delays, crunchy, earthy percussion sampling and haunting melodies make for a package of intensely club-ready USB additions tailored effectively to a range of atmospheres. Holistic employment of rolling, building energy features across the selection; a masterful, refined second EP from one of the scene’s freshest newcomers.
