TOAST3R’s journey as a selector began in Madrid's underground free party scene, where he immersed himself in the heavy basslines of drum and bass and the chaotic energy of rave music. A passionate vinyl collector, his style evolved under the influence of Bristol’s iconic bass music culture during his university days, where dubstep, jungle, and UK garage vibrations left a permanent mark.

He embraced the essence of 91-92 old skool hardcore-breakbeat rave, the intricate textures of IDM, the futuristic grooves of electro, and the driving rhythms of UK techno—all while maintaining a deep connection to melody and emotion. His sets became a mental journey, weaving together the raw, sub-heavy energy of bass music with soulful, introspective moments, creating a sound that is both cerebral and deeply felt.

Today, he continues to push boundaries, producing music with analog gear in T37 studio, where he channels his passion for experimentation and storytelling.

Science Cult Radio 048: Gliesse

Second Storey is the artistic vessel of Alec Storey, a Berlin-based producer whose roots trace back to Norfolk’s free-party scene — the same fertile ground that gave rise to Bloc Weekender. Emerging first as Al Tourettes with early releases on [k]rack-troni[k], he went on to record for Apple Pips, Sneaker Social Club, Aus Music, and Schmorgasbord, while building a formidable creative partnership with Appleblim. Together, the duo remixed Planetary Assault Systems, Axel Boman, Underworld, and Raudive, before launching the ALSO project. Their live debut at Space Ibiza set the tone for a string of European performances and culminated in a full-length album on R&S Records.

Second Storey’s solo trajectory is no less ambitious. Commissioned for the soundtrack to Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, he later inaugurated his Second Storey alias with the Houndstooth-released debut album Double Divide. Preceding EPs on Nervous Horizon and Austria’s Trust laid the groundwork for his second LP, Lucid Locations, a cerebral distillation of his electro-techno-funk aesthetic. The subsequent remix collection, Lucid Interpretations, featured contributions from Nastia, Radioactive Man, The Exaltics, Machine Woman, and 214. His catalog has since expanded with releases on Clone’s Frustrated Funk, Varvet, Natural Selection, Pudel Produkt, Mechatronica, and most recently, No Static Automatic.

Stylistically, Second Storey’s compass is guided by funk’s psychedelic backbone, channeled through electro, techno, IDM, UK bass, and other rhythmic mutations. Whether collaborating, remixing, or commanding the stage with live drum pad intensity, his output remains singular: elastic, unpredictable, and bursting with energy.
