In the years after the loss of the Space Police, space became home to roving bands of pirates who lay in wait for the unwary pilot. Survival relied on a fast ship and powerful weapons. The pilots who survived became known as “Free Traders.”

Soon, the best of the pilots began to hire themselves out as escorts to ships owned by rich merchants looking to make vast amounts of money from this anarchy.

To counteract this threat, the pirates grouped together and attacked in force.
Many pilots died trying to fight off large pirate forces. So, they grouped together, and in one huge battle, killed most of the pirates. So, that today, piracy is only a small problem. The group of pilots were known as.. “The Federation of Free Traders.”

Here is my version of Federation of Free Traders (FOFT) composed by the late great Ben Daglish.

Federation of Free Traders is a space trading video game released in 1989 for the Atari ST and Amiga. It was similar in scope to Elite, involving space simulation and exploration tilted towards trading. The player is tasked with exploring and discovering the billions of procedurally generated galaxies and planets. The game was developed and published by Gremlin Interactive.
