Welcome to New Orleans: A tribute to New Orleans Funk and Soul is the work of New Orleans native, DJ Personify. Raised in the Crescent City, the die-hard Hip-Hop fan learned early on that many of the samples he discovered originated in New Orleans. He soon became infatuated with the Funk and Soul music recorded there and has spent the better part of the last twenty years immersed in the culture of those records. Personify’s passion for New Orleans' music and culture extends to the present day and is manifested in this DJ mix masterpiece. Lovingly compiled, all of the artists featured on the mix are native to New Orleans with the exception of Hugo Montenegro who plays alongside Al Hirt (a New Orleans native) and The Headhunters, who are included here because of their work with Bill Summers (a life-long New Orleanian). All songs and samples used on this mix were recorded from vinyl sources. Nu-Mark began DJing at the age of 13 in Los Angeles. Over the last two decades, he has amassed an immense collection of rare records from around the world.  Nu-Mark’s refined music production and live showmanship regard him as one of the most innovative DJ’s in music culture.
 
As a member of the critically acclaimed, gold-selling Hip-Hop outfit, Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark graced the group with precision production and cutting edge stage routines.  Best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” such creativity only hinted at his imagination since Jurassic 5’s breakup in 2006.  In 2013, J5 reunited with a staggering performance at Coachella which featured a gigantic turntable designed and manipulated by Nu-Mark.
 
Nu introduced himself as a solo artist in 2004 with Blend Crafters, an instrumental EP created in the spirit of allowing beats to speak for themselves.  Later that year Hands On, was released as a mix CD that featured Mc’s rhyming in different languages from around the world.    He has remixed songs for Nas & Damian Marley, created tracks for Saturday Night Live’s Lonely Island and constructed the Tropical Funk mix Take Me With You.  Most significantly, after more than three years of brainstorming, experimenting and collaborating, he’s released his critically acclaimed debut album Broken Sunlight, which reveals his influences and innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music featuring Aloe Blacc, Charles Bradley, Quantic, Large Professor, Bumpy Knuckles, A-Skillz, Tiron & Ayomari and J-Live.
 
Recently Nu-Mark has been widely recognized for filling his entire stage with children’s music toys and playing them as instruments. This Kids Toy Set went viral when Nu-Mark compiled his performances from around the world in his DVD Nu-Conduit.
 
To date, Nu-Mark has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch, KeepinTime, Coachella: The Movie,Rock the Bells – The Documentary and Mac Grubber.  In 2013 Nu-Mark created original beats and co-scored both Battle Of The Year starring Chris Brown and Ride Along staring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.
 
Today Nu-Mark has completed a collaborative album with Slimkid3 of Pharcyde which features songs that include Murs, Del, Diamond D, Darondo and J-Live, set to be released on Delicious Vinyl in the summer of 2014.  Stay tuned!

Found this recording from a show me and Tahaj put on back in the early 2000's.....The highlight of the night was having *DJ Ta-shi* (Zulu Nation/Beat Knuckles) and *DJ Shortkut* (Invisibl Scratch Piklz/Beat Junkies/Triple Threat) comin through and rockin' it live on 4 turntables....I ran out of recording discs at the end which explains the abrupt cut off.....

As you can tell from the energy they're puttin down, they were f*cking rocking the place!!!.....people were going bonkers!!!  It was amazing to see their DJ communication and veteran skills in person....still inspires me to this day.....Enjoy...

this is Vol 2 in a series of original breaks mixes. 
After finishing Vol 1, DJ Imperial and I had this idea to do a volume 2 using a sampler, and really blurring the lines between what was produced and what was played. When Imperial moved back to Sweden, and using a sampler seemed to be unnecessary with the editing options in what was then new- protools, I stepped up to do Vol 2 w/ one of my favorite DJ's and crate diggers.....DJ Platurn!!! 

Since the previous mix was predominantly live, and with this new concept, Platurn and I found that we were not in jeopardy of reinventing the wheel. We met up, and came to some conclusions...we wanted it to be B Boy/Girl friendly, we werent going to limit what we used to any category, and that we wanted to feature one of our favorite DJ's with the illest cuts DJ Teeko.

This format proved to be really hot, and i dont think we were the only ones to do something like this, but we were definately one of the first, and we were really proud of the end result. Being able to extend and overlap breaks indefinately really is a great way to approach a breaks mix. This is really proven in moments like the Olympic Runners kazoo mashup, or the Ramsey Lewis rock blend. By not limiting the selection to any categories we get edits of newer releases of classics like the Kenny Dope/J5 and its monster drums intro, but without all the excessive parts (the song lol). We also get DJ Teeko just murdering the cuts in moments like the Shadow/Cut Chemist numbers redo.
