What is originality in music anymore? It's something I've struggled with as a producer and DJ for much of the past 10 years. As a producer I've pretty much given up on sounding original, but as a DJ I've always tried to find music that sounds original or at least attempts to do so. When it comes to dance floor music I've found it nearly impossible to find music that truly has an original sound to it, but I've been finding all sorts of abstract and eclectic Electronica and random tracks here and there that to me really feel like they're doing something different or going Against The Grain if you will....

When two of the worlds best electronica/downtempo producers and DJs, Bluetech and Dj Maggie respectively asked me to create a set for their streaming show Holotropic Happy Hour I knew this was the perfect opportunity to finally put together a set of these tracks! I hope you enjoy the journey!

An incredible festival, an incredible dance: In the late night steamy heat of the Costa Rican rainforest we Invoked the sacred through sonic alchemy and surrendered to the divine.  This set was the culmination of everything I strive for on the ecstatic dance floor - in the amorphously porous container of a festival a multi genre, tempo-twisted offering of deep groove and penetrating cadence elastically stretched the potential for expression over 108 minutes of unpredictable storytelling as each dancer exploded into the hyper-nowness of being.

ENVISION FESTIVAL - ECSTATIC DANCE
(edit. Sat, 9 March: Renamed set "JUNGLE PRAYER ECSTATIC DANCE". Thank you everyone for the feedback. Your dance in the jungle was juicey.  The set was a collective somatic prayer, an embodiment and a devotion to the dance as medicine).

And like all my ecstatic dance mixes, this is a raw portrait of the dance floor before me,  each set experienced as a unrehearsed, spontaneous collaboration with the dancers. But on this particular night in the jungle I had and agenda: Peace, prayer, healing, tribe, remembrance, beauty, home.

Envision Festival was the apotheosis of what a dance floor can do, and how far it can go as collective cathartic release: It was a total hot, sweaty meltdown of a trust fall.  

p.s. DJing ecstatic dance at a festival generally requires getting down to business from the get-go. Unlike indoors, these dances compete with other stages, are a porous container, comers-and-goers, talking on the dancefloor....and this also makes it special and surprising for the uninitiated.

I’m excited to share the live recorded set from Odyssey – a world fusion gathering I co-hosted as an intimate and social evening of world fusion artistry, music, performance, high-vibe nourishment, and community connection. Odyssey was an invitation into a rich tapestry of cultural beauty that honoured the ancient arts into modern realms, celebrating sacred global and tribal sounds with expansive expression.

My 90 minute multi-genre journey of tribal sounds and ethnic rhythms includes my signature looping of live instrumentation and vocals seamlessly entwined into a voyage of sonic alchemy, taking dancers on a journey across the world of sound from indigenous and modern cultures with an electronic foundation. Much love to all who helped us sell out the original space, upgrade to a larger room and then sell that out as well. Vibes were potently high and I’m so grateful to have co-created this experience for you all.
