I've been spinning progressive house since the early 2000's, and over the years I have recorded some demo sets along the way. I thought I would compile them all in one place to make them easy(er) to find for people that like this type of more mellow, chillax, emotion-invoking music. More recently I started the "Prog Sessions" series, and I'll continue to add those here as they come out. Hope you enjoy!!

Hey guys, welcome to the next iteration of Prog Sessions, April 2024 edition!! This one sort of happened by accident; I’d been working on my set for Solarstone and I was going through all of my recently purchased music, and for tracks that I thought were too mellow for the Solarstone show I was throwing them into a folder I just called “April Prog”, but I noticed later that I actually had a ton of great tracks in there so made a note to go back and see if I had the right elements to get a playlist to work.. I wanted to record a set to listen to for Saturday night BBQ, something I frequently do haha. So, I did, on that Saturday the 13th, this is what happened, and after I listened to it I knew I had a keeper. Probably “TMI” haha, but that’s literally how this set came to be, whereas many of my previous "Prog Sessions" sets took me numerous tries and probably weeks of trial and error to get to a version that I thought was good enough for streaming, so this was a pleasant surprise!! :D Anyway, without going into too much additional boring detail, I welcome you to Prog Sessions, April Edition, and hope that you enjoy the mix as much as I did recording it!! PS: the photo is one I took on my vacation to Germany back in October of 2022 for Oktoberfest; that was from a morning walk through a huge square in Stuttgart called Schlossplatz, and it has these two enormous and beautiful fountains, which were built in honor of King William of Württemberg, in 1863. The two landmarks are popular sights for tourists and visitors to Königstraße in Stuttgart, and I’ve always loved seeing them whenever I am there. I thought that photo would be perfect for this mix. “Prog Sessions, April 2024 Edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live April 13th, 2024

Hey Guys, getting the next iteration of my Progressive House series, “Prog Sessions” in just under the wire for May here haha. I was figuring that I would call it “June Edition”, but since the cover art is an awesome photo, taken over my house by my neighbor across the street, of the Aurora Borealis caused by the solar storm that so many people saw around the world during the month of May, and also in honor of my Dad’s 87th Birthday, which is TODAY (May 30th), I am sticking with “May Edition” for this one!! I have been struggling with time lately, as my “real job” has been super busy, so I haven’t had much time to work on DJ stuff lately. But I (of course) keep listening and constantly buying new music, and I had this massive stockpile of awesome new tunes building up, so much so that I really had a severe case of writer’s block with this one and had no idea where to start. So last weekend I spent hours downloading and arranging tracks and got it narrowed down to about 50 “keeper” tracks, then managed to narrow it down to the lucky 13 on this set, and recorded it on Monday, memorial Day Holiday.. I just recorded this the one time and that was it; all the tracks just worked together beautifully, which is rare for a one-time recording session!! Lastly, I usually try to put 14 tracks on these Prog demos, but Warung’s EPIC track, “All We Have Is Time”, seemed like such a great place to end it, and also loved the irony because all I DON'T have is time these days haha, so I stopped the recording there. “Prog Sessions, May 2024 edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live May 27th, 2024

Hey guys, hope you’ve been having an awesome summer!! Hard to believe that it is nearly September, when summer starts winding down, kids go back to school, and the beginnings of Fall start showing up here and there, my favorite season. Well, as you can tell, it’s been a very slow summer, DJ-gig-wise, which has kind of worked out for me because I have been buried at my job all summer long, but I also really miss playing in the clubs, and am hopeful the Seattle Trance scene will start picking up again with more shows in the Fall. Meanwhile, I never stop listening to, buying, and collecting music, so shows or no shows, I’ll always continue recording my live demo mixes. And, speaking of, I just recorded the latest in my “Prog Sessions” progressive house demo series, last weekend. I had a lot of amazing music to choose from, and had to spend a lot of time whittling it down to just 15 tracks, but I was really happy the way this one turned out, with brand new releases from some of my go-to progressive artists including Genix, ANUQRAM, PROFF, LTN, Paul Arcane, and I was SOOOO happy the insanely awesome Yeadon remix of Genix’s “Lights, Sound, Camera, Action” released the very day I recorded the mix!!! I had been checking Beatport every day since I first heard it, and it’s definitely my Fave track on the mix. Anyway, I’ve found that to keep the quality level to my very high standards for these things, my goal is always to have a set where I never feel like fast forwarding through any tracks, therefore I usually won’t have enough A-list tracks stored up to record one every month (I am quite picky haha), but I will try to get one out every other month. And meanwhile, I’ll continue working on my “Mission Trance” uplifting trance demo mixes as well, with about the same bi-monthly cadence haha. As usual, hope you enjoy!! Cheers! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

“Prog Sessions, August 2024 Edition” a Progressive demo mix, recorded live Aug 17th, 2024

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a Happy New Year so far! So, as I mentioned on my Facebook page, I tried to get this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series finished in December. I think I recorded it at least four times, and each time I felt it wasn’t quite ready for uploading here and released into the wild, it could be better. So I kept whittling away at it, and now it’s practically an entirely different mix than what I started with, but I am very happy with it. It might even be my favorite of the series so far haha. So (for me at least) the wait was worth it. Anyway, we are all our own wort critics I suppose, but I love every track on this mix, and love the journey through sound aspect of this mix, with a little something for everyone, some twists a turns through mostly instrumental melodic Progressive sounds, some more Housey, some a little more moody and ambient Deep Progressive “Guy J” kind of vibes, and even a dash of Progressive Trance. The highlight of this set is one of the only truly vocal tracks in the mix, the LTN remix of “Wait Forever” by Estiva. I first heard a bootleg of this track on YouTube probably a year ago and was so in love with this track, but it never released. Finally, I JUST found a radio edit of it, and had to use some looping and hot cues to make it work in this mix, but I just can’t get enough of this gorgeous track. Anyway, I hope you like this set as much as I enjoyed spinning it! Not sure when I’ll get my next one out, but I’ll do my best to keep them coming ASAP haha. Cheers! -Mark, a.k.a. Gotek

“Prog Sessions, January 2025 Edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live Jan 11th, 2025

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a great summer so far! So, I finally got this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series recorded over the 4th of July weekend! You may have noticed that I have taken a bit of a break on the DJ front this year, and that is primarily because of my actual career “day job” has finally gotten to the point where the workload and stress of my job kind of kills my energy level to work on music during the weekends. Plus, sadly, the Trance/Progressive scene in Seattle is going through a bit of a dry spell, not as many local Trance shows or opportunities for me to be an opener DJ for a headliner, etc. especially since several of my old and beloved “stomping-grounds” NW DJ clubs from yesteryear closed down during COVID.. However, rest assured, the passion will never truly die, and regardless of whether I am posting sets or not, I am still constantly listening, researching, and collecting new music for future DJ sets, so you know I’ll always be back eventually, like a moth to the flame haha. The good news is that, aside from getting out a new Prog Sessions set for your listening pleasure, I do have an awesome show coming up in a couple weeks at ORA Nightclub, where I will be opening for world-famous and beloved Italian DJ/Producer, Giuseppe Ottaviani, on Friday, July 25th!! Can’t WAIT for that one!! So, lastly, I really liked the way this one turned out, it was a one-time-through dry run that I recorded and thought, “that’s it”, that’s exactly what I wanted, that hypnotic journey through sound, beautiful Progressive House ramping into more ethereal Progressive Trance, my happy place.. The photo is one I took on a vacation that I took to Rome about 10 years ago, the beautiful Basilica of St. John Lateran, the oldest public church in Rome, consecrated in 324 CE by Pope Sylvester I. I always loved the way the sunlight played through the clouds in the backdrop, very magical looking. So, this was in honor of Giuseppe Ottaviani, our Roman Trance Champion, coming to Seattle this month!! =)

Brand new – I have been meaning to record a set of all of this beautiful deep & proggy house music I’ve been listening to and accumulating ever since the ABGT 250 show, primarily inspired by the Above & Beyond deep set that kicked off the show and the entire 2nd day (Anjunadeep day) which was literally one of the best days of my life, music-wise, pure magic all day long, and a show I will never forget. For this set I did a dry run and recorded it once just to listen to it myself and practice, but ended up keeping the first take, it just seemed to fall together and turned out really cool (I thought so at least). For the ocean sounds I plugged my iPad into one of the channels on the mixer and played some relaxing beach sounds while I recorded the set, just because I was wanting to add some ambient sounds to enhance the chill vibe. It's a nice journey through sound to get you in the mood for the warmer months ahead and delves a bit into that grey area where progressive house, deep house, techno, and progressive trance all collide to make something very sublime, soothing and wonderful, which I love so much. Deep Progressive demo set - SPRING CHILL 2018 - recorded live on Sat, Apr 21, 2018

On Saturday, Aug 4th, 2018, I was beyond honored to be direct opening support for one of my all-time favorite Trance DJ/record producers, OLIVER SMITH, for the Anjunabeats Worldwide 08 Tour stop-off in Seattle. I have been a fan since around 2005 when I first heard Smith & Pledger – Northern Lights (Original Mix), which immediately became my #1 favorite Trance track, ever, and have played his tracks since then in so many of my sets and have been a loyal fan all through his career with Anjunabeats; never in my wildest dreams would have guessed that I would be handing off the decks to him at a sold out show in Seattle 13 years later, honestly it was a dream come true!! The club was sold out and incredibly packed, hot and sweaty, but the people in the audience we so incredibly amazing and I had SOOOO much fun playing this set. My good friends Janice Chae (J-Note) and Randall Glenn also played amazing sets leading up to mine and it all went together so perfectly. Oliver couldn’t have been a more kind, polite, humble, and endearing person, and it was such an amazing honor to play at this show. On September 14th, 2018, I was honored to be the direct opener for Richard Mowatt, uplifting UK Trance pioneer from the very beginnings of Trance, a.k.a. Liquid State, a.k.a Young Parisians, or more commonly known as SOLARSTONE, at the Underground, Seattle. I am lucky enough to be able to say this was the third time I have opened for Solarstone, and just like the other two times, the show was sold out, the crowd was an absolute joy to spin for, and the club was packed with Solarstone fans from around the NW, all there to experience the euphoric sounds and vibes of PURE TRANCE from this world-class Trancer. I was asked to put together a slower and more proggy set because Solarstone was spinning for 4 hours and wanted to start off slow, and this is what I came up with, loved every track - it was such a magical night, the crowd was absolutely off the hook, and I’ll be remembering this one for a long time.. Opening set for SOLARSTONE, Underground, Seattle, Sept 14th, 2018

On Saturday, Nov 10th, 2018, I was honored to be a guest DJ for a very special ANJUNABEATS TRIBUTE NIGHT at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, OR, where all the tracks played by the DJ’s were either on the Anjunabeats or Anjunadeep labels, or at the very least had something recognizably to do with Above & Beyond, ABGT, etc. What made this night so truly special (for me), aside from being able to play an entire set of ANJUNA magic, and the fact that the club was totally PACKED from barely 20 minutes from doors opening with the most wonderful crowd of Anjuna fans who were SO fun to play for, was that we had some of the biggest names in the NW Trance and Progressive DJ scene on the roster for the night, JOHNNY MONSOON, EVAN ALEXANDER, and DJ ZOXY, so it was pretty over the top for the amount of fun we all had spinning together, tons of laughs & Tom Foolery, all the smiling faces in the crowd, and hands in the air, truly a night that I will never forget. For this set I really tried to stick to the classics and played many of my favorite Anjuna tracks from yesteryear that bring back so many great memories, but also threaded a few newer releases in there as well, including the opening track of the mix, which I first heard played by James Grant and Jody Wisternoff on 2nd “Anjunadeep” day of ABGT # 250 in the Columbia Gorge, their remix of Pola & Bryson - Cinematic Fireball, such a beautiful track that sends shivers down my spine each time I hear it, but I love every selection in this mix, and hope you do too.. Guest set for ANJUNABEATS TRIBUTE NIGHT, at Whiskey Bar, PDX, OR, Nov 10th, 2018

On Friday, May 31st, I was incredibly honored to be on the opening line-up for two Finnish Trance producer/DJ’s who’s faces are renown around the world in the global Trance scene, Miika Eloranta and Janne Mansnerus, better known as SUPER8 & TAB, at the SOLD-OUT show at The Underground, Seattle. I felt incredibly fortunate to be opening for them for a 2nd time in my DJ career, the first time several years ago, also a sold-out show at a much larger club in Seattle which is no longer open (Foundation), but to open for them at The Underground which is a much more intimate venue with an amazing sound system and where the entire crowd can get up close to the DJ’s and really feel connected to the music, was just indescribably awesome. I have been a fan of Super8 & Tab since the early 2000’s when hits like “Helsinki Scorchin” started making the rounds on ASOT and the like, and it’s been runaway train for them ever since with hit after hit, and they have been such a big influence on the scene, truly was an honor to shake their hands and hang out on stage with them, total crowd pleasers and professional performers. The energy with the crowd was so positive and upbeat all the way until the club closed and the uplifting beats and sweaty dancing continued on into afterhours….what a night!! Also got to share the decks with two amazingly talented Seattle DJ’s, Marco Howard Valencia and John Adam Espinoza a.k.a. EMERGE, and we had a lot of fun up there getting the audience revved up. Seattle's Mark McCarthy a.k.a. DJ Gotek emerged out of the exploding Electronic Dance Music scene in the Pacific Northwest over the past decade+, and has held residencies at some of the hottest DJ clubs in the NW such as The Underground, Club Contour, and Foundation Nightclub in Seattle and Whiskey Bar in Portland, and also has played at an ever growing list of clubs and venues on the west coast. Specifically noted for his euphoric, uplifting, and melodic Progressive and Trance sets over the past decade, DJ Gotek has found himself being invited to open for some of the world's most prolific and iconic Trance and Progressive DJ/Producers, artists such as Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Cosmic Gate, Sunny Lax, Genix, Solarstone, 4 Strings, Aly & Fila, ARTY, Ilan Bluestone, Super8 & Tab, Omnia, Ronski Speed, Orjan Nilson, Roger Shah, Chicane, The Blizzard, Lange, Daniel Kandi, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Gareth Emery, MYON, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Richard Durand, Bobina, Stoneface & Terminal, John OO Fleming, Simon Doty, Dezza, the list grows ever longer.. Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
