2015 has been an amazing year for me. So much things happened, and I didn't even thought all of these would come true one day. 

As a thank you for your support during the year, I mixed together some tunes I loved to listen during the last 12 months, and also few releases from myself, covering the whole Electronic genre. 
I took the initiative around New Year Eve, so I did the mix very quickly. This is one of the works I'm the most proud of, and I hope you'll feel the same way as I do.

YRMX15 (Yearmix 2015)

Debut release for Canadian David Gradwell, clocking in at just under 10 minutes, this pristine slab of 120bpm progressive trance really is something special. Bearing hallmarks of some fine Global Underground / Hooj moments from yesteryear, from the Eurythmics'-esque arpeggiated synth opening and retro Juno pads it's clear there is a treat in store. On Saturday, March 21st, I was honored to take part in a streaming DJ show called “Quarantine”, which was put on by the North American Trance Alliance and The DJ Sessions. It was streamed live from a rooftop with a commanding view of downtown Seattle on a beautiful sunny day, and in spite of the circumstances, was a lot fun. This was the 2nd iteration in a row of the Quarantine show, the first of which took place the weekend before from the Underground club where we usually play live. As the Quarantine name aptly suggests, it’s a way for some local NW promoters and DJ’s to try to reach out and spread some cheer and happy vibes to a population largely locked-down and “sheltering in place”, awaiting the end of this nightmare known as COVID-19. It was such a surreal feeling to be playing that beautiful music with the healing sounds of Trance & Progressive on a rooftop that should have been packed with dancing people and smiling faces, to only a skeleton crew of sound technicians and the people who made the stream possible.. But we hope that the vibes that we tried to create helped people escape reality for a few hours and brought smiles to their faces anyway. I loaded up this set with a bunch of new euphoric and melodic tracks from my favorite artists and labels (SILK, ANJUNA, ARMADA). I hope you enjoy, and stay safe out there my friends. Guest set for the “Quarantine Stream Party”, live from downtown Seattle, Sat, Mar 21st, 2020

On 4th of July Saturday, I finally got around to recording an Uplifting Trance set I've been working on and playing around with for the past few months, so it felt great to dust off the decks after what seemed like eons of disuse during the pandemic and all the endless lonely self-isolation and boredom. I don't know about you guys, but being able to escape into my little world of electronic dance music has definitely been my guiding light that has helped me get through these bleak times. I hope it does for you too, and that's exactly why I am posting this, in hopes that this journey through the uplifting and euphoric sounds of Trance helps someone out there in some way, even if it's only just one person, it would still be worth the effort to me. As usual, for this set I scoured my collection and spent many hours listening to tracks on podcasts and Beatport to refine it down to this list. It also features a classic selection produced by a buddy of mine in the UK who also happens to be my sound technician who sound levels all my mixes and adds the voice ID's, Chris Dececio, also known as Redd Square. This track was produced back in 2012 and still sounds amazing by today's standards, one of my fave tracks on the set for sure. Thought I would entitle this one "Arise" as we all reinvent ourselves and arise from this calamity called COVID-19, like the proverbial phoenix's from the flames haha! On Saturday, November 28th, 2020, I was honored to be invited to spin a guest set for the 3rd iteration of the "SIGNAL" live DJ broadcast, this time featuring streams from heavyweight headliners including the likes of Christopher Lawrence, Monoverse, Tempo Guisto, 10 total DJ's for this epic streaming event. It was a total blast to share the airwaves with Seattle local favorites, MarQ, Oxymoron, and Madlon, and we had such an awesome crowd of friends and Trance fans tuned in for the online show, even all the way from Europe, so it was a great mood-lifter from the doldrums of daily life in this pandemic, and a way for people to get together and lift everyone's spirits with the lovely healing power of Trance. I was super excited to be back behind the decks for this live stream and tried to bring some vibey, euphoric, and uplifting Progressive House and Trance, this coming two days after Thanksgiving, which was also my B-Day!! :P Special thanks to my buddy Donald Li for allowing me to play his incredible new bootleg mashup of Andain, “Beautiful Things”, and also was excited to spin a few other tracks by some of our amazingly talented NW artists making a global name for themselves in the Trance scene like EMERGE and HAUSMAN. Seattle Trance Alliance (STA) recently had it’s 5-year Anniversary Stream Party, and I was incredibly honored to be on the DJ line-up for this super fun, 2-day event which aired on Fri/Sat, Feb 19th & 20th. Each night had a unique line-up featuring world-class Trance/Progressive headliners, including Solarstone, Myon, Reorder, and Elevven. It also featured several rising star Northwest breakout artists, such as Dimibo, Emerge, and Magnus. Lastly, we had a veritable “dream team” assembly of local Seattle DJ’s, including Des, Johnny Monsoon, Madlon, MarQ, Ophidia, Solarwind, Sunriser, Web, and me (Gotek)! It was SO much fun getting to record our sets live at The Underground, literally my first time setting foot in an actual club in over a year, and even though we only played to a cold, dark, empty club, it just felt unbelievably awesome to be there again. Hoping it’s a foreshadowing of brighter times ahead in the not-too-distant future, but until then, here’s the set I played that Friday evening on Feb 19th. I made sure to load it up with some beautiful and uplifting new Proggy Trance vibes that will be sure to tug at your heart strings (I hope so anyway haha).. Seattle's Mark McCarthy a.k.a. DJ Gotek emerged out of the exploding Electronic Dance Music scene in the Pacific Northwest over the past decade+, and has held residencies at some of the hottest DJ clubs in the NW such as The Underground, Club Contour, and Foundation Nightclub in Seattle and Whiskey Bar in Portland, and also has played at an ever growing list of clubs and venues on the west coast. Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
