Hey guys, hope you’re all doing well!! So, crazy to think it’s October already, and sorry it’s been a while since I have posted anything new. Sadly, since the COVID pandemic took the world by storm, two of the clubs that I used to play at regularly, The Underground in Seattle, and Whiskey Bar in Portland, OR, both shut down due to the lack of business and financial hardships brought on by the pandemic. Fortunately for me I still have an amazing club in Seattle to play at, ORA Nightclub, but moving forward I will probably have less shows to record unless something changes. Just a fact of life I guess. So, on the brighter side, I recently took my first vacation since the pandemic and went to visit some friends in Germany, which was awesome. I had been experimenting with some newer proggy tracks that I had been hoping to play at a progressive house show, but decided to record a demo set and I listened to it nonstop while I was in Germany. When I got home I made a few minor tweaks and re-recorded it last Saturday (Oct 15th), and I really loved the way the tracks just set this certain relaxing, yet peppy, introspective vibe, and (for me at least) I really love to listen to it while driving. So, I called this mix “Autumn Drive”, as fall is one of my very favorite times of year, when all the leaves turn beautiful colors and begin to fall, and we get some amazingly colorful sunsets here in the Pacific NW. “AUTUMN DRIVE” – a Progressive House demo mix, recorded live, Sat, Oct 15th, 2022

On Saturday, November 5th, I was incredibly honored to be direct support for world-renown and beloved Trance DJ and record producer, visiting us all the way from Wales, UK, Richard Mowatt, better known as SOLARSTONE, at Ora Nightclub, Seattle. This was actually my 3rd time getting to open for this famous guy, and it was really fun to see him again and be able to say hi and get to hand off the decks to Mr. Pure Trance himself. I had SO many great tracks that I was so excited to play that night, and the crowd was incredibly fun to play for and at a few points were jumping up and down and dancing so hard that the DJ booth was shaking so hard that I thought it might collapse haha, that was really exhilarating. Such an incredible evening of beautiful Trance and Progressive, beautiful smiling faces and hands in the air, incredibly positive energy, and I was so happy to be able to make people dance like that; it’s one of the best feelings in the world. Opening set for SOLARSTONE, Ora, Sat, Nov 5th, 2022

On Friday, January 6th, I was honored to play my very first show of the New Year at ORA Nightclub in downtown Seattle, and this one was for a fun Trance and Progressive local Seattle DJ’s night called “Illuminate”. For this Illuminate it was an all B2B sets (B2B = “back-to-back”, 2 DJ’s playing a set together) night, and I was lucky enough to once again be paired up with one of my favorite local talents, the lovely Janice Chae, a.k.a. J-Note. If you’ve listened to some of my more recent mixes you’ve probably heard Janice and I spin together before, opening for the likes of Paul Oakenfold and Oliver Smith within the past 6 months. So, I am always excited to B2B with Janice and I really love how her taste in music works so well with mine and we always have so much fun and many laughs up there behind the decks. It ended up being a great night and we had a really good turn out at the club for a “local’s night”, so it was extra fun to play to a bunch of great people whom were there to have a fun time and dance the night away. Originally this Illuminate was announced to be an "Anjuna Tribute night", but that changed towards the end, however Janice and I were already working on getting an Anjuna playlist together, so we stuck with our original plan, since we both adore the Anjuna record labels, and played a magical playlist of may of our more recent Fave Anjuna tracks, plus one massive golden oldie by Mat Zo slipped in there thanks to Janice and I really loved hearing that one again after so many years. Gotek + J-Note guest B2B Anjuna Tribute set for “Illuminate” at Ora, Seattle, WA, Fri, Jan 6th, 2023

So, I’ve hinted that this mix was coming on my Gotek FB page etc, but I’ve noticed that I’ve been gravitating to my collection of much older, “vintage”, Uplifting Trance tracks (early-to-mid 2000’s, before 2010), many of which I originally purchased on vinyl, some of which were only ever released in vinyl format, back in the day when I would hear something on DI.FM and frantically search the internet for it, when you often times would be paying $15-$30 bucks for a “white label” piece of vinyl to be shipped to you from Europe somewhere, long before the convenience of the Internet and paying $2.50 for immediate gratification to download a lossless file. Back in the days when Trance was still forming, when the tracks were 8-9 minutes long and sounded rawer and more primitive, but still some of the most spine-tingly stuff I have ever heard. Well, a couple of weekends ago I decided to record a classics mix on the CDJ's to listen to later from Dropbox (something I do once in a while for music to listen to in the backyard while I was BBQ’ing, etc). So I went to my music collection and sorted by date, and was frankly surprised how many MP3’s I had that had no date or other metadata because they were so old, so I compiled a list of tracks I hadn’t heard in many years, and this is what I ended up with. Truth be known, I did go back and repurchase many of these tracks in AIFF (lossless) format from Beatport, because some of those ancient MP3’s just didn’t have the sound quality I needed, but there still were several MP3’s used to mix this set from tracks that weren’t available to re-buy as lossless files anywhere online. This mix has been professionally sound-leveled, and preserved in the original WAV format that I recorded it in,  for that added punch of sound quality on those extra old files, but I also sort of don't mind the MP3's for the extra emphasis on that "vintage" (slightly crappy) sound quality anyway haha. For me, this mix really brought back a lot of fond memories from a couple decades ago, when Uplifting Trance was much newer and pure, still just coalescing and finding it's place, and the feelings it conjures up are pure magic. I called this one “White Label”, and plan to have a vintage Trance series of the same now. I hope you feel the same way as I do when you hear it, enjoy!! -Mark a.k.a. “White Label” a Classic Trance demo mix: 001, recorded live Feb 13th, 2023

On Saturday, February 11th, I was honored to be the primary support opening DJ for world-renown Anjuna star, Progressive and Techno UK record producer and DJ, Damion Houchen, better known by his stage name, GENIX. I am lucky enough to have opened for GENIX twice now, the first time was at a club in Seattle called The Underground, which was a super fun little 200-person club and unfortunately is no longer open due to COVID, but this time it was at ORA, which is one of the coolest clubs in Seattle, and the crowd there that night for GENIX was truly something special. I had a ton of friends show up to the show as well so it's always extra fun to play a set and look down from the DJ booth to see a bunch of smiling faces of people you know, that is the best feeling. GENIX was such a sweetheart, and the Anjuna and Trance Fam vibes were so magical that evening. I had kind of an eclectic set that night that bounced around from some more organic sounding house to trance to progressive house to more trance haha, but it all seemed to fall together quite nicely and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it, so I hope that you do too, at least as much as I enjoyed playing it!! Opening set for GENIX, Ora Nightclub, Seattle, Feb 11th, 2023

Hey guys, well, I had SO much fun recording the first White Label Classic trance mix, and received a lot of much-appreciated positive feedback on it, that I AM BACK with another Classic Uplifting Trance mix for ya, with White Label 002!! I really dug deep on this one and used even more MP3’s than on the first one because some of this stuff is so rare it’s no longer available to purchase, and/or only released on vinyl. I did my best with sound leveling to make sure the recording volume is consistent from track to track, but some of this still stuff is just so old that it wasn’t great sound quality, hopefully it sounds okay. I had to take several tries at recording this and really had to play with the tracks and placement, but I think I got it right in the end, however I’ll let you be the judges haha. One thing I noticed is I heavily indexed on Ronski Speed on this set, but truth be told it was really Ronski’s sound that I obsessed with in the early years of building interest in Trance, and we have a lot to thank Ronski for in all of his pioneering and influence in this uplifting trance sound in the very early days, some of my very favorite stuff of all-time. Also loaded it up with some other golden oldies and rare gems and I really like the way this one turned out. “White Label” a Classic Trance demo mix: 002, recorded live March 5th, 2023

On Friday, March 24th, I was super excited and honored to not only be opening for Irish Trance legend and pioneer, JOHN O’CALLAHAN, but also to be back behind the decks doing a B2B set with one of my oldest and dearest Trance DJ buddies, the promoter that offered my very first gig and chance to open for a world-class Trance headliner, (The BLIZZARD, at the Whiskey Bar in Portland, 11 years ago in 2012!!) which made everything else after that possible, for which I will eternally owe him my endless gratitude for making my DJ dreams come true, my dear Serbian buddy, Zoran, better known as ZOXY. What a night, that’s all I can say. The club was packed for John O’Callahan, and it was packed early so even us opener DJ’s had a packed dance floor to play to, and it was so much fun. It is now just a blur of laughing and high-fiving and hugs and a bunch of smiling people with their hands in the air, which is about as good as it gets. Anyway, B2B sets are always fun, and also challenging to try to figure out how to mix in the next track on an unrehearsed set. Hey guys!! Well I've been plugging away at this White Label Classic Trance series and managed to finally record a take that I liked last Sunday, so here it is, after something like 15 attempts to record it and endless rearranging and being unsatisfied and going back to the drawing board again and again messing with it haha.. It's always worth the effort though, and I have really appreciated all the nice comments in support of this classics series, as well as it's personally a lot of fun for me to mix this stuff, from back when Trance was still pretty new and raw, and all the memories it conjures up from perhaps a simpler, happier time, for me at least. BTW, I already have White Label 4 almost figured out, and figure I have enough classic trance that I am still passionate about to keep the series going for at least another 3-4 iterations, so if you like this stuff please let me know in the comments, and/or if there are tracks that you miss from yesteryear that you'd like to possibly hear in this series. On, Saturday, April 29th, I was beyond honored to be the primary support for easily one of my all-time favorite Trancers, Anjuna star and true prodigy Trance pioneer from the earlier days, Hungarian DJ/record producer, Levente Márton, better know by his stage name, SUNNY LAX. This is one of those “pinch myself am I dreaming??” moments because this is the 3rd time I’ve been on the opening roster for Sunny Lax, which is 3x more than I could have even hoped for haha, and it’s always such a pleasure to see this genuinely friendly, humble, and sweet fellow again, let alone warm up the decks for him. What an honor!! I was joined by Bryan Kyes on the opening crew, a new edition to the Seattle Trance DJ Fam, and Bryan kicked us off with a classic trance set, and I carried on from there with this, a mixture of euphoric Progressive and Trance, and threw in a little side excursion of some beatsy techno tracks because I was in the mood to hear some driving bass, hope you don’t mind haha!! Anyway, as usual, it was a totally fun night at Ora and the crowd was amazing and the Anjuna Fam love was in the air. Hope you enjoy the set, and also just a heads-up that I am pretty far along on the next iteration of the "White Label Trance Classics" series, # 4, hoping to record it this weekend.. Opening set for SUNNY LAX, Ora Nightclub, Seattle, April 29th, 2023

Hey guys, well here it is, # 4 on my Classic Trance series, White Label!! I’ve been working on this one for weeks and finally recorded a take that I liked last Saturday on May 13th, and have been listening to it non-stop ever since haha. I really had to play with the track order on this one, but I think I finally got the right blend of vocal and instrumental uplifting trance, and if you’re a fan of the classics you’ll for sure recognize some of these gems from yesteryear, as well as maybe hear a few that are a little more off the beaten path that you may have missed, like Terradia - Drowning in Dreams, I bought that on MP3 in the mid-2000’s and I don’t believe it’s still available anywhere, was so great to  dig that one out and hear it again!! So many of these other tracks I haven’t listened to in 10 or 15 years, so many huge tracks and artists from yesteryear that give me goosebumps still to this day.. It's actually really shocking, the shelf-life on all these songs, especially once I’ve gone out and repurchased them as lossless files, they (to me) sound even better now than they perhaps did back then, they just keep getting better with age. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the journey to record this set and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing it!! I’ll probably be able to make 2-3 more of these before I run out of classics that I am passionate about, so look for those over the following months. And BTW, I will be opening for Japanese rising star Trancer, the lovely, RINALY, this weekend at ORA Nightclub in Seattle, and I will be playing some Uplifting Trance for that one in the low 130's, a bit faster than I usually get to play live, so CAN’T WAIT for that one haha!! “White Label ” a Classic Trance demo mix: 004, recorded live May 13th, 2023

On Friday, May 19th, I recorded a demo set of some dreamy, relaxing proggy stuff that I have been listening to and collecting for the past couple months, literally to upload to dropbox so I could listen to it in the backyard BBQ’ing on a beautiful, early summer evening haha, the night before the Rinaly show at Ora, which was last Saturday (AND, a totally awesome time!!! My set should also be uploaded sometime soon). I actually did try to record this once before several weekends before that but I didn’t like a few things about it and cut the recording off midway through, but this time it turned out pretty cool, so I thought I would share. Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
