This song is my personal tribute to Tulum, and I hope that it can be a call to awareness for the many issues now facing this beloved town in Mexico. 

Late one night several years ago I stumbled upon this amazing home made presentation on Youtube from 2007, about the problems that were starting to arrive in Tulum. The presenters knew back then, that Tulum was going to have issues, because the same thing had already happened, first in Cancun, then in Playa del Carmen. They knew over crowding, pollution, lack of resources, exploitation of locals, corruption, and more, was all headed to Tulum. At the end of the video, they present a song which was written by a local woman, about the issues facing Tulum. It sounds like a group of friends drunk on their porch having fun and just making things up as they go along. Its raw and honest, and sounds like it was recorded on a cell phone. I knew instantly I wanted to sample this to amplify the voices of the native people of Tulum, and help them somehow. 

My hope with this song is raise awareness to the problems of Tulum in a fun casual way.  If I can get people singing along to this, maybe, just maybe, they’ll start subconsciously getting the picture, and change their actions.

With over 25 years of experience as a DJ, and 15 years producing electronic music fused with indigenous rhythms and organic percussions, Sabo and his label Sol Selectas need no introduction. In November of 2020 Sabo released his 3rd studio album “Buddy System”, a collaborative effort with several producer friends from around the Globe. The album topped the charts and continues to move dance floors around the World. Sol Selectas now presents the “Buddy System Remixes” album, featuring 10 re-interpretations by some of today’s leading producers, both legendary, and up-and-coming.

Dj T. from Berlin, leads off with a powerful remix of “Daikato”, transforming the original downtempo version into a peak time frenzy of psychedelic synths and a groovy baseline which drive the tune.  

Dj Chus of the infamous duo Chus & Ceballos, and the legendary Stereo Records label, takes “Bakhu” and injects his own tribal flavor to create an Iberican drum workout. 

Laroz and T-Puse from Israel, and Mula (FR) of France, both rework the song “Celebration Santoor” which features the incredible Persian musician Bahramji. Laroz and T-Puse take the track into Afro tech direction, while Mula (FR) pitches things to mid-range deep house, with his dubby and heady interpretation. 

For the song “Imagine” we also have two new versions.  Inigo Vontier of Mexico warps the original into a trippy, indie dance excursion, chopping up the vocals, and weaving the plucked string instruments of the original with swirling synths and arpeggios. Abel Ray, a new producer from Morocco, elevates the vocals of Basel Khoury on his version of “Imagine”, and creates an emotional build up of synths and leads, resulting in an epic build explosion of groove. 

Turkish duo Derun, dear friends of the label, immediately requested to put their spin on “Duende” when they first heard Sabo play it. Known for their chunky tribal drums, and epic crescendos, Derun deliver a fresh energetic take on the original, which highlights the beautiful Greek guitar.  

Israeli Guy Mayaan gives “Min Q” his minimal cosmic flavor, adding disco congas, and happy synth stabs that will surely awaken the dance floor’s 3rd eye. 

Russian producer Zuma Dionys, expertly remixes the track “Red Lotus” in his signature down tempo style, with a high energy but low BPM excursion, perfect for those transcendental sunrise moments. 

And finally for the track “Fainá”, German producer Nutia delivers a gorgeously deep and dubby downbeat remix,  which feels like a magical dreamscape submerged in the ocean.

This marked my 10th year out on the blank canvas of creativity, known as the Playa.  It was unforgiving and magnificent and challenging and beautiful all at once. I tell myself every year, this may be my last, that the experience has pushed me to my limits of comfort, and patience.  But literally the second I get back to the default World,  I miss it dearly, and cannot wait to return. The last Come Down mix I made for Burning Man was 5 years ago, and with the explosion of energy and mega high vibes this year, I felt the calling to create another chill-out journey into sound. Think of this mix as your long Exodus back into reality.  Listen closely to the inspiring words of Larry Harvey sprinkled through out the set. This legendary man and his brilliant vision, which he so profoundly describes in his own poetically genius way, is the reason we all make the annual pilgrimage to this desolate barren land of LOVE. In this mix I featured every Persian song, and every Persian artist, that Sol Selectas has released thus far, along with a few other songs by Persian friends, and Persian run labels. Sol Selectas has always embraced the beautiful art and music of Iran, and we pride ourselves on being a cultural voice for the people. Now more than ever, that voice needs to be heard loud and strong. 
“Azadi” means “Freedom” in Farsi, and it is the most basic human right which we all must have. 
This mix is dedicated to the women in Iran, who have been fighting and protesting for 2 months now, for exactly this right. 
The current situation in Iran hits very close to home, as my wife was born and raised there. She dealt directly with the challenges of being a woman in Iran. 
I like to think that I speak through my music, and I tell a story with my sets. This DJ mix is not just me speaking, however, it is the voice of an entire nation, and they are literally shouting for their lives right now. None of the mainstream media is reporting on this, so I hope that WE, collectively as a music community, can rise up, and be their voice. Please share this music far and wide, and raise awareness about the revolution that is unfolding in Iran.

Sol Selectas celebrates it’s 100th release, with a single by label head Sabo, and featuring a remix by Hyenah. 

The song “Bomeno” takes it name from the Ewé religion of the African country Togo, and represents “the mother of Bomé”, which is the sacred land where all people are believed to come from, and return to.  This afro house tune is inspired by a thumb piano rhythm accompanied by a catchy vocal hook from Togo. The deep bassline bounces the tune along with sharp percussion, electronic synth stabs, and electric guitar swells played by Billy Mendrix. 

For the remix we welcome afro house legend Hyenah from Berlin. Hyenah plays with the vocals and thumb piano groove, adding their signature afro tech sounds. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali shows the vast land of Bomé, with its divine mother Bomeno, meditating peacefully on the horizon.

Here is the live recording of my sunrise set at Envision Festival, 2023. 

This set features tons of unreleased music from my label Sol Selectas, coming out in 2023. I also got to play several of my favorite feel-good classics.  I was only supposed to play 2 hours, but Envision was kind enough to let me continue for another 30 minutes. The energy of the beautiful crowd was pure electricity, and kept me going. Thank you to the lovely crowd of sun worshipping dancers, the Stage managers and Sound techs, and the festival organizers. Enjoy this audio journey, and for those who there, I hope it brings back some timeless memories of that special morning we shared together.   Pura Vida!

This is the recording of my 3 and 1/2 hour set at the legendary WOMB Nightclub in Tokyo Japan, for the 4 year Anniversary party of BUMP, hosted by Ken. 

This was an absolutely magical night, and I was blown away by Japan's kindness, hospitality, and energy. The sound, lighting, and production at WOMB was truly top notch. All the other DJs played killer sets, and the crowd was truly connected with the vibes all night. I'm so happy to release this set and share with you all. Cannot wait to come back and do it again. Arigato Ken, Dai, BUMP family, WOMB family, and all of Japan, you stole my heart!

Sol Selectas presents “Farfasha”, the 1st solo EP from our friend Hot Oasis from Egypt, and featuring Persian legend Bahramji, as well as singer Aziza. This EP has 2 original songs, with a remix for each. 


“Farfasha” literally means happy, or to be in a good mood, and in 2019 Bahramji and Hot Oasis shared the stage at a friend's festival. They loved and respected each other’s music, so they kept in touch and later made this collaboration which features Bahramji playing santoor, and also singing. Hot Oasis created a fun bouncy break beat groove, to host Bahramji’s talents, and the song leans more towards Indie Dance. 

On the remix label head Sabo teams up Los Angeles based artist Sarkis Mikael, to create an upbeat organic house take on Farfasha, focusing on Bahramji’s beautiful vocals and elegant santoor riffs. 

“Ghazale” is a mid tempo organic track, featuring singer Aziza, and the title itself is Arabic slang for a “beautiful person”. Hot Oasis recorded Aziza while on a trip to Lebanon, and was inspired by her powerful vocals. 

On the remix, Egyptian friend A X L picks up the tempo and adds some intensity to the original, with wild Arabic keyboard solos, and energizing build ups. 

The cover art by Helia Jamali guides us through the staircase to the portal of light and happiness.

This an exclusive edit Goldcap & I made the week before Burning Man. We wanted to have at least one new exclusive tune to play on the Playa for our b2b sets. We debuted this tune on Wednesday morning for our sunrise set at Kazbah, which was probably my favorite gig all week. All DJ sets out there are amazing, but this one was special simply because we started with a dance floor of 15 people at 6am, and ended with about 500 friends 4 hours later. The weather was perfect and from the pic you can see the vibes and smiles were flowing. Feel free to share and play this track in your sets, as one last Playa gift from Goldcap and I to you!! <3

Tulum Come Down

This mix is inspired by two incredible weeks I spent in Tulum, Mexico to begin the new year. I'm grateful to have been able to play music with some extremely talented artists, at some amazing venues, both indoor and outdoor.  From the pristine white sand beaches, to the tropical heat of the jungle, to the dusty pavement of the small town, one can really feel a magical connection with this land. We danced with passion, explored the jungle, swam in cenotes, slept on the beach, took naps in hammocks, ate phenomenal fresh local cuisine, watched the sunset and sunrise daily, and celebrated life with many beautiful friends, both old and new. This mix is dedicated to all those wonderful people. The sonic journey ends with a field recording I made on the last day; one final rain shower to wash away any and all remaining negative energy. I hope this mix relaxes you and takes you on positive journey, guiding you into a healthy and prosperous 2016.  ~ Sabo

Tulum Come Down - Sabo

It has been just over a month since I left Black Rock City for the 5th time, and this marks an annual turning point for me. Today is my birthday, and I have one last gift to give you this year my crazy Playa friends.  Today my thoughts shift from: wishing I could teleport back to all the amazing moments we shared together just one month ago, to focusing on the productive 11 months ahead, until we meet again in  the dust.  I hope this mix will allow you to breathe a deep relaxing exhale, grounding yourself back to "reality", and inspire the same thoughts of excitement in you, until we meet again - in Black Rock City.

Here's the recording for my DJ set from July 2nd, 2017 at the Katerblau Kiosk, hands down my favorite place to play music in Berlin.  The whole venue is a wonderland of discovery, the staff is extremely kind and hospitable, and I don't think I've played for a more open minded crowd in all of Europe. Longer sets allows you to take your time and be patient with the music, and the mixing.  The slow building journey I had imagined in my mind, was possible to make a reality, and extra time allowed me to experiment as well. This was probably my favorite gig of my entire 2 month Summer Sol Europe Tour. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I had creating it in the Kiosk. Here is my sunrise set from Saturday morning on The Cloud at Burning Man 2019. I began this mix just as the day was breaking with the sun shining, and the chilly night beginning to warm the desert. It was an honor and a pleasure to play on this incredible new Art Car, for their first year on the Playa. I hope they continue to bring their fluffy magic back to Black Rock City for years to come. ;-)

Despite the increased commercialism and popularity of Tulum, the magic does indeed still exist there, especially on the beach.  We certainly felt the energy during our Sol Selectas showcase, and the 5 days that followed, taking in the sunshine and positive vibes  this sacred land provides, to those who stop to be present, and listen.  I hope you will enjoy this 2nd chapter into deep tropical balearic grooves, crafted with relaxation intentions, hoping to cause inner peace and outer smiles. ~ Sabo

 To honor the lovely island of Jamaica, this dj set is simply my favorite feel good reggae tunes.  You will hear dub, conscious dancehall, lovers rock, ska,  and traditional roots reggae songs. Jamaica's musical influence is also heard in some Latin, West African, Turkish, Arabic, and Isreali tunes as well.  I really tried to tell a story with the songs, so I encourage you to listen closely to the lyrics, which speak about uniting together, becoming a better version of your self, the problems and challenges with money, the joy of smoking marijuana, everyday struggles, living good, and of course, LOVE. Almost all of these tracks I own on vinyl, and I had such a blast recording these all week long, just vibing on down memory lane, in preparation for  this set. At Burning Man 2019,  “The Shrine of Sympathetic Resonance by Tyson Ayers” was an open air hexagon shaped temple, whose walls both inside and out, were constructed of the internal organs of old pianos. Playing the rusty strings gave off an incredible energy and frequency, so I captured these sounds on my recorder, and those samples became the foundation for “Vimana”. But the real magic was when my love Helia, agreed to record her “Persian finger snaps” as percussion. This inspired us to keep going and we recorded a wooden frog, hand claps, a steel tongue drum, Native American shakers, wood blocks, and then I even convinced her to sing, laugh, and breathe into the mic.  All of these recordings found there way into the 10 minute long journey we call “Vimana”.  This song is part of the incredible compilation SUMMER SOL V, released on Sol Selectas Records on the eve of the Summer Solstice - June 19th.

The original is, of course, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and this cover version is sung by Myki Tuff backed by The Friendly Fire band.
