There is something to be said for a small stage in a dingy little club with bad lights and unpredictable electricity.  Every band has its origin here, with a few friends, not necessarily even fans of the music yet, a nervous tension in the air and 6 songs that you have poured your heart and soul into.  THE RESCU is no exception and no stranger to this environment.  Formed in 2010, the 3-piece were ready to see if they had what it takes... All that remained was to turn up the amps, count in the show and pray that the next 30 minutes would be something special.

After their very first show of this nature, THE RESCU spent some time away from the city, writing and rehearsing the material for their upcoming performances and debut studio album. The band drew their inspiration for the songs from various elements and life experiences. Their genuine and heartfelt love for South Africa and its people inspired many of the tracks along with their deep roots in classic rock. Artists such as Lenny Kravitz, The Foo Fighters, U2, Pearl Jam, and Kings of Leon all provided the ingredients for the mixing pot that was HERITAGE SOUND Recording Studio located in the city of Cape Town. It was here that THE RESCU captured the essence of what is a true alternative rock album. A mighty drum sound, powerful bass lines, massive guitar tone and dynamic vocals combine to form an outstanding debut album. 

During the latter half of 2010 and throughout 2011, the band went on to play with some of the biggest names in the SA music circuit. Sharing the stage with Just Jinger, Foto Na Dans, Arno Carstens, The Dirty Skirts, and Prime Circle, THE RESCU have proved its where they belong. These performances have given the band the street cred they require to hold their own at any level of live performance which resulted in them being booked to perform at the Cape’s biggest music festivals, namely “Synergy Live and Rocking the Daisies.” The three-piece rock band produce a huge sound with their oversized drums, all valve vintage guitar stacks, and head high bass cabs. If it’s a rock show you’re looking for, it’s a rock show you’ll get.

THE RESCU are signed to Sheer Sound and have just released their debut album and music video featuring their first single, ‘I Did It For You’. Drowning Olsyn is an astounding example of what happens when people from different worlds collide. Bringing their past musical influences to the forefront of musical creativity, makes you feel as though you're eating a masterful banquet at a melodic feast. The artistry behind Drowning Olsyn is comprised of two amazingly talented individuals, Emma Sophina and Michael Carlisle, who draw from life's successes and tragedies to open up an emotional journey to all who listen.

Emma Sophina, an Australian Native, was thrust into the public spotlight, in 2009, through an incident we've come to know as "Miracle on the Hudson". This event would lead to Emma's signing with Universal Records in New York and open up a vast array of singing opportunities on Larry King, Good Morning America and more. Emma's vocal stylings offer a wide range of tonal precision in which she can captivate audiences of any genre.

Michael Carlisle, a small town Texas boy, cut his teeth on a mix of country, rock, and blues. With the loss of his father and mother, Michael has had his own obstacles to overcome. He does so with a strength and tenacity reflected in his songwriting. Michael has traveled as both a musician and vocalist, playing for the roughest and rowdiest to the most elite. His charm and enthusiasm for music give inspiration and entertainment to people of all ages.

Michael and Emma met in 2011 and their musical chemistry was immediate. They performed together for a while before deciding to join forces and start collaboration on an album of their own. Michael with his Texas roots and Emma with her jazz, pop, R & B background created a rowdy sophistication in their music. It's what happens when denim meets lace, a classic tale of "Beauty and the Beauty".

Drowning Olsyn's debut album, "Lie To Me", is nothing short of brilliant. From the gut wrenching display of relational hardship in the title track, to the playful back and forth of new love in "Lipstick Letters", from a man toiling with his hammer on a chain gang in "Down To My Grave", to the more redemptive "Better Go Home", the wide array of themes throughout this record leave the audience holding on to their loved one, or maybe a handkerchief. Their songs are the songs of us all, our experience or experiences to come.
