Dr Foo - Prognosis Podcast

No man can fully live the present without acceptance of his past, no tree can grow without strong deep roots in the dark soil. The melodies, genres, quirks, struggles and emotions that shape us form the powerful base/bass of our essence.

I call forth and honour the deeper and darker side of progressive trance shaped by the Coldharbour sound that has been the container of my deep emotions for power to release them, and eradicate the hurdles and bullshit of our lives so we can progress to actualisation. 

Starting with deep luscious downtempo and house from the likes of Maya Jane Coles, we get gradually sucked into moody hypnotic grooves and old Coldharbour melodies, then dragged into the modernised carnage of Purple Haze, Arkham Knights before coming back to sit with the raw emotions. Bass is the common sprinkling ;)

Ready for the journey? God I miss grooving live in a dark setting, let alone DJing live in person again!

Prognosis 26 - Honouring the Deep & Dark Roots

As I immerse and offer more sound healing/meditation sessions, I will be showcasing the therapeutic sounds from the instruments in my arsenal, played with intentions for deepening of self understanding and release of dis-ease. The long running Prognosis series will start to showcase these live mixes as an easeful ambient solvent to your worries and tensions, before the more groovy/ uplifting segments come in as later parts.

In this mix, you get to experience the Dr Foo fusion of electronic hypnotic elements with live sound healing instruments. 

Beginning with Tibetan Singing bowls, deep synths and binaural beats, we ground into the Earth/mud and feel into the present, both pleasant and unpleasant. Entraining into meditative Theta state for deep rest and release. Taking in shamanic sounds to feel into your primal nature too.

Allowing melodic drums and electronic synths to wash away the baggage that doesn't serve, as you flow to your inner truth and play. Travelling up to your heart centre, let the harp strings open you further to your tenderness and callings. 

Concluding with Chimes, Sansula and hypnotic synths, we connect with Etheric inspirations and sources of creativity for expansion. Ending with a heart-centred mantra to send out the vibrations to earth and those we care about

Prognosis 27 (part 1) ~ Sound Healing across the elements

It has been a while since I recorded a Prognosis set live, and this is a series that has evolved from the deep and dark to the higher connections. In this mix I pay homage to the middle ground - my roots in melodic progressive and ambient music that has fed many souls and encapsulated emotions of hope, yearning, melancholy and connection to something greater. 

I have mixed tunes old and new that are accessible for all to groove, work, study, reflect, chill by the beach or connect within and without. I have always felt that the beauty of progressive lies in its ability to touch the soul as a background for all activities, existing in between the main genres of electronic music.

Prognosis 28 - The Melodic Middle

Welcome back to this latest episode of Prognosis, which re-creates a deeper and longer live electro-acoustic sound bath that I did at a beautiful event called 'Ecstasis' at Rasa in July, and a series of similar sound baths done at New Bahru before that, in Singapore.

This also rides on my unique integration of binaural soundscapes, live instruments such as singing bowls, harp and handpan, as well as sounds from my favourite ambient artists such as Divasonic, Above & Beyond :)

Prognosis 29 - Deep Ambient Integration (Binaural)

Sharing a recent live recording of a conscious dance movement & therapeutic sound journey, Yinstatic Dance, which is held on the 4th/ last Sat evening of each month at Felt Sense studio.

This is a gentler, introspective version of ecstatic dance, providing an integrative container to illuminate deeper emotions and embrace multitude of the self through movement and sound.

Building from ground up with intentionally curated downtempo, ambient, world music and live soothing instruments, we journey across inner and outer realms towards acceptance and expansion.

Trips down memory lane as well as a mix of genres featuring additional spotlight on tasty downtempo tracks that I have used for grounding at various events, leading into a hypnotic frenzy of middle east inspired tribal prog percussions as well as some familiar progressive trance & Coldharbour classics.

Prognosis 24 (Part 2) - Embracing Darkness

Sek Sheng, also known by his artist name ‘Dr Foo’, is a sound meditation facilitator, musician and DJ who holds space and prescribes music for healing and integration of deeper aspects of the self. He has immersed in and been trained in sound healing, yoga, meditation and music production in an ever evolving journey in the past 10 years.

Dr Foo believes that sound is a universal language that can re-awaken our innate power and connection with all, and serve as a fun yet sacred medium for healing and understanding. His journeys emphasise the importance of owning our darkness before true healing and expansion can occur.  

His sound healing journeys interweave live therapeutic instruments (singing bowls, harp, melodic drums etc) with electronic music (hypnotic synths, binaural beats), nature sounds, ethnic music and mantras across cultures. It is a reflection of his journey starting as an underground club DJ in Melbourne to immersing in yogic journeys in India & Bali, and then realising the power of sound for therapy.  

In recent years he has curated soundscapes for yoga and meditation events, full & new moon sound healing journeys as well as ecstatic/conscious dance events.
