I Hate Trance

The title comes from conversation w/ friend about how sniffer dogs have the best dog job: they get to wear a fancy uniform, use a taser so their teeth don't get messed up & have their noses in drugs all day!

I wrote this over the course of a weekend, for a jazz-oriented album on teh Audiosex forum. I wanted it to be like a tour of the ages / stuff I like about jazz & instruments. It's (jazz) just an excuse to use good ones, which is a good enough reason. I imagined a quintent (?) of old, beardy jazzers gradually getn more worse for wear, but still tight and focused. Ish. >____> A bit like the form, over the years :D maybe. I tried to be in a swaggery, ballsy, upfront, take-no-prisoners, only stop when ya heart does kinda mood. I hope it came across! No theory was harmed (or used) or learned in making this mess!

I tried to just use trad / famous / notorious jazz instruments. It's about 95% played live, by me. Some (tiny bits) of the bass are edited and all of the drums are programmed. Most of the rest is just one take: out of the brain onto the page. The most annoying / difficult part was the reeds, having to redo the articulations is a colossal PITA! Everything else was pure infectious joy...

Anyway, this is dedicated to a pink fluffy panther who said "jazz is the end of all randomness". I hope he can see it does have some random stuff happen sometimes? I tried whenever possible to add in random stuff thoughtlessly (toms after crashes, crashes on wrong accent, random hats / rides / notes =) whenever anything was making too much sense. It didn't happen many times. I hope it remains a glorious, joyous, delirious mess of bravado and idiocy!

Slightly more finished. Drums are slightly more varied. Although they annoy me a lot. Guitar has been tweaked a little. Piano has some grace notes. It still all goes a bit Ron Burgundy, though.
