The mysterious record slayer and turntable destroyer - DJ Frequency, is
known for his fast-paced style and taste, best described as energising, hard-hitting and packing some serious solid grooves for the ride.

Heavily inspired from 90's old school techno selections, cutting and mixing. The Digital Indecency stud infuses this into his sets and mixes, while also having being a regular in the Dublin club circuit.  DJ Rush, Dave Clarke, Sunil Sharpe are just some of the names that play a part in the influence side, and for him to portray the same craft.

It is certainly refreshing in the modern day to hear an artist describe the love and affection they have collecting and mixing vinyl in the way Steven Hughes does. He has spent the past few years learning and perfecting his craft on a pair of turntables and CDJs, carving out a sound which perfectly reflects his boisterous personality.

Although Ste hasn't quite had the opportunities his talent behind the decks warrant, we are definitely hoping that this will provide the platform for him to grow in confidence and as an artist. He is no stranger to the club scene and has certainly earned his stripes over the past few years, observing and picking up tips and tricks from some of the best DJs in the game. He even admits that seeing Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa encouraged him not to sell his turntables and to continue putting in the countless hours it takes to perfect.

His vinyl only mix is one of the only we've had here on New Wave, and is a perfect representation of the sound he is trying to push. The fast but groove orientated techno showcased in the mix both pays homage to the early 2000's DJs that drove that sound whilst adding newer fresher tracks from DJs like Hector Oakes and Darc Marc.

For those not familiar with Ste, he is guaranteed to provide you with a laugh or two in the interview segment. In one of our favourite ones to date, we discuss buying and selling DJ equipment on Facebook, the move from a DJM mixer to a Xone 92, the influence of his cousin on his early sound, his view on DJs who only play vinyl and his approach to club nights post pandemic.

New Wave Podcast 031: Westy

Both Westy's ability behind the decks and knowledge across all genres of music transcends many his age. Although originally known for his signature jacking house style when first on the Newcastle circuit, his sound has evolved incorporating a lot of more genres, whilst still supplying them infectious grooves and uplifting melody-rich chords.

Westy's early obsession was old school hi-hop and from a young age he was able to dig past a certain threshold of hip-hop artists and develop an understanding not many his age had. Spending endless hours digging through Youtube to find tracks was how he remembered spending summer holidays at the ages of 11-14. This mentality has translated throughout Westy's musical journey as he has built a collection over several years which leaves you mesmerised on the dance floor and questioning where and how he found this track.

His residency at Ill Behavior was something which has shaped who he is as a DJ today, learning invaluable lessons from both opening and closing for many successful artists. After seeing him play several times, it is still amazing to see how he is always able find the perfect balance of playing exactly what he crowd wants to hear whilst pushing the boundaries. In our interview we discuss the main influences he had as a child on his taste of music, running his own event in Durham, experiencing Newcastle as student compared to someone outside the city and why he hasn't fully delved into production.

For number 21 we have another fine Irish DJ / Producer in the form of Adamant. Having first gained made a name for himself in the disco/house scene, in the last year or so his sound has taken a darker turn with a string of releases and mixes to prove it. A diverse mix ranging from hip hop to breaks to techno is what you are in for!
