Since his earlier offerings on both Rinse and Purple Tape Pedigree, Celestial Trax has shown flashes of transcending an already mutant sound: stepping further from tradition and any previously traceable London-borne musical sensibilities. While 2015's Ride Or Die was a frantic, grime-fueled dash along the fringes of club music - inspired by his move to Brooklyn, New York - another year of living in American concrete Paradise/Hell has helped him realize a new flesh.

From The Womb is Celestial Trax's score to self-examination through a lens ground up from past bouts with vulnerability and physicality. "Together" confronts ideas of hedonism and anxiety as a devastating assemblage of laser-cut stabs, shattered voice boxes, and hulking low-end sequentially weave from belly crawl to screaming charge. "Bleed Wiv Me" explores lust and carnality by way of moon-kissed synth flushes, inaudible murmurs and ghostly breaths intertwined with a seductive kick drum pulse. "Secrets" is a self-destructive head driller: harnessing regret, anger, and blame while swimming through the viscous swells of omnipresent bass, shards of glass, and moaning dissonance. At the close of the EP, "Bodily" stands as a reflection of human fragility when floods of burnt chrome distortion and cybernetic motion engage in a gentle duet with a siren choir - the machine down-revs alongside dimming vital signs, lulling the bits of struggle which precede everlasting sleep.

"Francesca Woodman's photography, some choral music, and ballet were a large influence - as was being broke and lonely in New York. It's a claustrophobic and, at times, a chaotic collection of songs that conjured up from a very specific point in my life.

Most of the sounds on the EP were created using various bits of hardware. I wanted to treat these songs like compositions, rather than having anything too repetitive or set patterns - ignoring form that I've previously used and force myself to approach the project differently. They raised their hands to the skies above and began to chant, one drum banged and banged and banged. The wind grew stronger and their voices carried far and wide.

An alumna of the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, Maya Medvesek AKA Nightwave has kept busy in the years since, running her own Nightrave party series in Glasgow and launching the Heka Trax imprint with her “Luxor” EP plus additional releases from Big Dope P and Blastto. The latest Heka Trax release is by Glaswegian R&B duo Bossy Love, out on Friday, March 11, and their “Bossy Love” single is another example of Nightwave’s keen A+R ear, while her remix, premiered here, showcases her significant and consistent production skills.

The original “Bossy Love” is a finger-snapping slow jam featuring a luscious vocal turn from vocalist Amandah Wilkinson over John Baillie Jr.’s stuttering pop production, but Nightwave extracts the dominant lyrical boast - “Ain’t nobody better than me” - and flips it into an insistent hook. Burbling synths circle the vocal until you’re completely convinced of its truth, and additional rhythmic filigrees lift it further into dance floor bliss before an affecting piano outro. Amandah’s assertion that “We’re making gold, son” certainly applies to Nightwave’s work here.

Glasgow's Junto Club return with their second EP. In their own words...

This is the second in our planned trilogy of Junto Club EPs. If the first was the birth of the Junto Club, this is the middle-aged existential crisis. 

We've followed the same ethos as the first EP, allowing the music to develop organically rather than being restricted by considerations of genre.  Naturally, this was shaped by our experiences of the first EP. 

While the first EP developed through our experimentation with new sounds behind closed doors, this EP was the result of our attempts to retrospectively understand those creations and the interpretations of others. These reflections were mixed with our reimagining of those discoveries and our experiences of their live performance. 

Warm Me Up is not the same as the Junto Club EP because those virgin sessions can never be recreated. Nor should they be. This is the middle aged existential crisis of the Junto Club. And we hope you enjoy dancing to it.
