Cicada is the name of an insect that makes a very familiar summer sound. I used this sound in the first version of the track as percussion but I eventually removed it as it was taking too much space. Every track that I make starts with an intention that is quite different from the outcome and sometimes even the founding elements are replaced. In this case, the cicada sound inspired me in the entire process but was no longer needed when the track could live by itself.

Ninon Corpet is a friend of mine. She’s not a professional singer but I thought that her voice would fit well with the universe of this track. Ninon’s high pitched voice matches with the fairy-like atmosphere that I wanted to achieve for Cicada.

This is the only Phaune track with a voice. I spontaneously write only instrumental music. I like voices but I’m not very comfortable using them and I don't write lyrics. But this time, it just felt like the thing to do. Also this track has a certain pop feeling I think. It is therefore drifting a bit away from my universe.

I wanted to create a “funky forest” feeling. I like when music feels inhabited with living forms. This is where my alias comes from. Electronic music is a great way to create fantasy worlds that you can populate with funny creatures. Though the sounds refer mostly to vegetal stuff, some of them sound like animals to me.

As he entered the village, the goldfish man again began to doubt if he was in the right place. As he pushed his cart down the narrow street, lively children dressed in gay colors flew toward him like a festival of silk kites. “Goldfish! Goldfish!” they cried. “Ma! Ba! Can we get one?” Parents walked over and smiled indulgently at their children, and by the time the sun disappeared, the goldfish man had sold out of his wares. Clearly this was not the same poor village he had come to before, where only that one girl purchased a fish. But then he remembered hearing a story about how a family that lived by the Jade River had given the King of the City of Bright Moonlight the incredible gift of a Dragon Pearl, refusing any payment. In gratitude, the king presented the entire village with gifts of seeds and farming equipment that brought more prosperity than any reward of gold and jade. Maybe this was the place. Ernest Oh belongs to a place where animals can speak and trees are made of poetry. This is his first offering for Shango Records. These three tracks can take you to the skies and far beyond. Dennis Allen, RIEL, Yassine H and Yusuf Lemone are the travelers of the plane to the land of modern times.

He did not sleep for a long time. When he did he had dreams of Africa. They were good dreams until the one that woke him. He got up then and went direct from that dream to work. He was well into the new story before the sun came up out of the sea and he did not look up from where he was to see how red the sun was. In the story he was waiting for the moon to rise and he felt his dog’s hair rise under his hand as he stroked him to be quiet and they both watched and listened as the moon came up and gave them shadows. His arm was around the dog’s neck now and he could feel him shivering. All of the night sounds had stopped. They did not hear the elephant and he not see him until the dog turned his head and seemed to settle into him. Then the elephant’s shadow covered them and he moved past making no noise at all and they smelled him in the light wind that came down from the mountain. Jon Sweetname got dreams and hopes of a new magic world. This is his first offering for Shango Records. These three tracks can put the flame of living to any dead body. Dj Sergee, OneRec and Dan Tanev are the light messengers of tomorrow’s world.
