Denise Rabe´s experience in the Berlin techno scene as a booker, radio host, promoter and dj since she relocated to German capital drawn by the possibility of a life in music, is reflected in the pragmatic, grounded artist she became and the unique, original voice she’s developed as a producer.

Her approach and work ethic can be seen expressed on every release she’s done under her label, Rabe, where her music is matched with an equal amount of care, thought and work, in the vessels that contain it, within a coherent aesthetic and vision that informs music, artwork and presentation equally.

This has allowed her to recruit the artist who´s work resonates with her sensibility and can be heard in the remixes Rrose, Shxcxchcxsh, Headless Horseman, among others, have done for her releases on her and other labels.

Imprints such as Mutewax, who released her first 12’’ in 2015, ARTS where she quickly became one of the label´s staples and Stroboscopic Artifacts where she published ‘’Manifesto’’ in 2019, are clear reference points that describe her career and its development. 

Rabe’s particular inclination to sparse industrial soundscapes, gothic aesthetics, driven grooves under hooks that hypnotize as much as they distinguish, have propelled her 10 year career across stages all over the US, Asia and Europe, as well as the clubs that represent the apex of techno world wide such as Berghain and Tresor.

El dj y productor Bas Mooy (1976), residente en Rotterdam, ha estado activo en muchos frentes de la escena techno desde 1999. Muy influido por una ciudad que respira
fuerza industrial, poco a poco se fue abriendo camino hasta crear un sonido oscuro único, que le llevó a la vanguardia de la escena techno mundial.

En 2002 puso en marcha Audio Assault Records con su compañero de sello Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial, que dio lugar al nacimiento del subsello Arms un año después. En 2013 Bas Mooy lanzó Mord Records, y rápidamente dió con una gran base de fans
en todo el mundo y ha sido una fuerza importante en el techno desde entonces.

Durante casi veinte años, Bas fue miembro del colectivo underground de Rotterdam
Strictly Techno», creador de más de cien fiestas legendarias desde finales de los noventa.

Bas siempre ha sido un productor muy trabajador y dedicado, que ha publicado música en sellos respetados como Mote Evolver, Perc Trax, Pole Group, 47, CLR, Sleaze
Planet Rhythm y, por supuesto, sus propios sellos Audio Assault y Mord Records.

"They were wild and crazy years." The Spanish techno icon discusses his early years in Madrid, running record labels and staying true to his sound for more than 30 years.

Spanish DJ and producer Oscar Mulero is a legend of underground techno. Since starting to play parties and make music more than 30 years ago, he's earned a reputation as an anti-conformist tastemaker who's adamantly stuck to his guns. While his trajectory began with Madrid's goth and punk clubs in the '90s, he eventually found techno in the early '00s and started two labels, PoleGroup and Warm Up, as homes for the hypnotic, spaced-out sound that's become his signature. 

In this RA Exchange, Mulero reflects on the early days of the Spanish techno scene and how it's evolved, as well as his own roots and influences. Today, the artist is as active as he's ever been, he discusses how he's maintained longevity as an artist in the face of changing trend, as well as his best practices for making music at home and on the road. Italy born producer and modular synthesist David Castellani is an aficionado in all things modular with a focus on driving, contemporary techno. His sound, fuelled by an array of analog hardware, showcases the intricate aspects of modern music production, while staying true to the fundamentals. 

Having formerly cut his teeth in a DJ/Producer duo, David has already built a category of healthy releases, collaborations and remixes, while sharing the decks with industry heavies including Nastia, Mark Broom, Dense & Pika & Vril, to name a few. 

Now based in LA by way of Chicago, Castellani launched his record label Noetic in 2021, cultivating smart & dynamic techno with a focus on synthesizers and analog hardware. The label has curated eleven releases from Castellani so far, featuring remixes from Redshape, Matrixxman, Voiski & Etapp Kyle. 

Castellani’s journey in music has been marked by two guiding principles – passion and learning, including exploration of world cultures. He uses the didgeridoo, part of ancient First Nation Australian culture which he respectfully acknowledges, in his live sets. He was taught drums by respected Afro Cuban percussionist Juma Santos, who featured on the legendary Miles Davis album ‘Bitches Brew’. The experience of working with Santos has stayed with him till this day. 

“It was one of the most vivid memories of my youth. We just spent hours playing drums together and then we’d indulge in some cannabis while Juma would share stories about hanging out with Miles Davis in the 70's. I was about 17 and remember travelling home, thinking how excited I was to start this new journey in music. And most of all, this helped me understand the value of education via a proper teacher within music.” 

Castellani would go on to be an educator himself, thriving as a teacher at Chicago’s respected Columbia College, where he’d teach for almost a decade. His passion for educating is something that stays with him till this day, involved in running modular synth workshops in LA in collaboration with the RE/FORM crew, with whom he holds a residency. He also volunteers with the Jazz Angels, an outreach program that sees him go into schools and help children record and learn about music. 

His passion and curiosity for all things learning, creativity and technological development has seen him create his own sequencer module, the Precision Disrupter. His background in graphic design also sees a collaboration with clothing brand After Infinite, responsible for designing all their rave wear garments. 

A magnetic live performer, recent highlights include a special 360-degree audio-visual performance in LA alongside Colin Benders and ONYVAA; a coveted spot playing Chicago’s Arc Festival and the release of his collaborative project ‘Hysteria Dichotic’ with AnnMarie Arcuri, which combined techno, contemporary dance, modular synthesis and film. 

Castellani wishes to acknowledge that First Nations Australians are the traditional owners of the didgeridoo, a wind instrument he uses in his live sets. He pays his respects to all First Nations people.
