The Whore of Babylon

Net Neutrality is internet service providers giving all information sources equal speed, equal protection. Losing net neutrality means ISPs give bandwidth priority to sources they prefer (ie. sources which pay them the most, Rothschilds, Bilderberg, the 1%, Big Brother) and it may mean your ISP charging you more for you to use your favorite sites, so loss of net neutrality promotes corporate/ISP media bias which undermines free speech and promotes censorship.

I can sympathize with liberty-defending free-marketeers and occasionally even defend corporate rights, but if you trust AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, and Verizon with more power to decide who sees what, you're not paying attention.

And don't buy the bullshit about Google and Facebook giving a fuck about you. The only reason they defend net neutrality is because they use the most bandwidth and don't want to be slowed down or undermined by ISPs who hate them for censoring rights activists and bending over backwards for Big Brother's Orwellian mass surveillance state. Unfortunately, ISPs who would penalize Oggle and Fascistbook are small and few and can't compete with global bankster billionaires, so the few possible benefits of ditching net neutrality are virtually non-existent.

If you want your internet to upload and download as fast as Bill Gates', you want net neutrality. If you want to destroy free speech, let the fascists off the leash.

Graphic new details of the post-9/11 U.S. torture program came to light Tuesday when the Senate Intelligence Committee released a 500-page summary of its investigation into the CIA with key parts redacted. The report concludes that the intelligence agency failed to disrupt a single plot despite torturing al-Qaeda and other captives in secret prisons worldwide between 2002 and 2006, and details a list of torture methods used on prisoners, including waterboarding, sexual threats with broomsticks, and medically unnecessary "rectal feeding." The report also confirms the CIA ran black sites in Afghanistan, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Thailand, and a secret site on the Guantánamo Naval Base known as Strawberry Fields. So far no one involved in the CIA interrogation program has been charged with a crime except the whistleblower John Kiriakou. In 2007, he became the first person with direct knowledge of the program to publicly reveal its existence. He is now serving a 30-month sentence. We speak with Reed Brody, counsel and spokesperson for Human Rights Watch, who has written several reports on prisoner mistreatment in the war on terror, including a 2011 report which called for a criminal investigation of senior Bush administration officials. "These Are Crimes": New Calls to Prosecute Bush Admin as Senate Report Reveals Brutal CIA Torture

A former Guantánamo Bay interrogator involved in torture was also a longtime Chicago police officer known for abusing people of color. According to The Guardian, Richard Zuley spent three decades as a notoriously brutal detective on the Chicago police force. From 1977 to 2007, Zuley used tactics including torture, threats and abuse to elicit confessions from suspects, the majority of whom were not white. One of those confessions was later ruled to be false, and the sentence was vacated. Zuley's methods included shackling suspects to walls through eyebolts for several hours, allegedly planting evidence, and issuing threats of harm to family members and sentences of the death penalty unless a suspect confessed. Zuley was also accused of brutal methods at Guantánamo Bay, where he was a reserve officer in charge of interrogating a prisoner who said he made a false confession due to torture.  The Guardian report comes just after the notorious Chicago police commander Jon Burge was released from a halfway house after he served four-and-a-half years for lying under oath about torturing prisoners in Chicago in the 1970s and 1980s. A new article by The Intercept details how the National Security Agency is converting people’s private phone conversations into searchable text. According to documents released by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the agency can now automatically recognize spoken words by generating rough transcripts and phonetic representations that are easily stored and combed for information. The top-secret documents show NSA analysts congratulated themselves on developing what they called "Google for Voice" nearly a decade ago. It remains unclear how widely the spy agency uses its speech-to-text capabilities to transcribe and index U.S. citizens’ verbal conversations. The documents suggest the NSA has frequently used the technology to intercept phone calls — particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Mexico — and to monitor international news. Earlier this month, the Chicago City Council approved a $5.5 million reparations fund for victims of police torture. More than 200 people, most of them African-American, were tortured under the reign of Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge from 1972 to 1991. Tactics included electric shocks and suffocation. The reparations package will provide free city college tuition for victims and relatives, counseling services, a memorial to victims, inclusion of Burge’s actions in the school curriculum, and a formal apology. We are joined by two guests: Flint Taylor, a founding partner at the People’s Law Office who has represented survivors of police torture for more than 25 years, and Darrell Cannon, a former prisoner who spent more than 20 years behind bars after being tortured into confessing to a crime he didn’t commit. Prosecutors dismissed Cannon’s case in 2004, and he was released three years later. A Florida man was sentenced to 180 days in jail, for not giving police the pass code for his cell phone.  The court ruled that this barrier is not protected under the Fifth Amendment, which protects against self-incrimination.  The guys offer their thoughts and say, if you've got nothing to hide, just give the cops the code.

"McCarthy on Trumanism" is a recording of a radio broadcast within which Senator Joseph McCarthy makes accusations regarding former president Harry S Truman. In this program McCarthy also discusses the spies he discovered working at U.S. Army's top-secret radar research laboratories at Camp Evans, Fort Monmouth. Originally broadcast on November 24, 1953. Program running time: 29:20.

(NOTE: At 13:45 into the program, McCarthy begins discussion of his investigation of Joseph Levitsky and others he accused of making attempts to get people employed at the Signal Corps laboratories at Camp Evans to provide information to the Communists.)

RESTORATION WORK:

The 7-1/2 i.p.s. half-track reel-to-reel tape was digitized at 44.1 kHz, 16 bits, monaural.

The tape had possibly been recorded from a transcription disc as there were numerous clicks and pops in the recording. Restoration included removal of most of the more prominent clicks and pops while leaving all other elements of the original recording, including coughs, breath sounds and paper noises unmodified. The audio levels varied substantially in a few places within the tape recording; after digitization levels were adjusted to maintain better consistency within each program element.
