DI-RECT - OMG It's Happening

Like It Always Was

The New Black And White is de titel van de nieuwe EP van Danny Vera. In een poging het genre van zijn muziek een naam te geven kwam Danny op The New Black And White: “Muziek geïnspireerd op het oude. Eigenlijk als een zwart/wit film die nu gemaakt wordt”.

Danny Vera is vooral bekend van de minuutjes rock ’n roll in programma’s als Voetbal International of De Wereld Draait Door, terwijl op al zijn vorige platen de ingetogen nummers een belangrijke rol spelen. The New Black And White verschijnt in een aanloop naar een serie theatershows, waar juist dit soort nummers nadrukkelijk aan bod komt. Danny: “Nu we het theater in gaan, waar we deze nummers spelen, zag ik mijn kans schoon om er een mooi passend plaatje bij te maken.”

Waar in het theater de nummers gepaard gaan met tekst en uitleg, zo kent ook elke track op The New Black And White een verhaal. "Een liedje als “Bye Bye Eddie” vertelt het verhaal van mijn jeugdvriend Eddie, die tot z’n elfde naast mij woonde en overleed bij een ski-ongeluk.” En zo coverde Danny 'All I wanna do is make love to you' van Heart eerder voor DWDD’s Guilty Pleasures: “Dit nummer heeft zo’n cool verhaal en ik wilde ‘m in z’n geheel opnemen, maar dan vanuit een mannelijk oogpunt”. Danny ontmoette Kris Berry bij datzelfde programma en vroeg haar mee te zingen op een nummer van The Everly Brothers. 

De plaat werd wederom onder de bezielende leiding van Frans Hagenaars in SSE Noord opgenomen, maar nu in de stijl waarin het vroeger ook gebeurde. "Dus ik zat samen met Reyer Zwart (bas/piano) en Benny Bakker (drums) in dezelfde ruimte zonder koptelefoon en we speelden echt op het volume van elkaar." Zo bleek bijvoorbeeld de eerste take van het nummer ‘You’, de allereerste keer dat Danny (gitaar) en Reyer (piano) het samen speelden, gelijk de juiste. 

De EP bevat in totaal 6 nummers. Naast drie eigen tracks en de eerdergenoemde covers van The Everly Brothers en Heart heeft Danny ook zijn bewerking van Amy Winehouse’ Black To Black opgenomen.  

The New Black And White verschijnt op 10 oktober op Excelsior Recordings. De theatertour gaat op 15 oktober van start.

Racoon, Ilse de Lange & The New Amsterdam Orchestra (led by Stephan Geusebroek), performing Racoon's beautiful song "Love You More".

The song "Love You More" is the second single from Racoon's success album, Another Day. The song was released in 2005 as a single and gradually achieved a number of high positions in the Dutch Top 40.

In 2006 the song was reissued by Dutch top DJ Armin Van Buuren in a dance version, this album also reached the Dutch Top 40.

"Love You More" is, as the title suggests, a true love song.
