Clarian North is always one to give an interesting interview (you only have to read his bio to get the the jist). The transcendental house music producer has collaborated with Clockwork and Guy Gerber to name but a few, was one half of the house/techno/left-field pop group Footprintz and now heads up A&R at Seth Troxler’s new imprint Soft Touch.
The label covers all bases, rolling techno grooves, calypso post-punk disco and dreamy sixties, West Coast pop vibes all into one.
 
Musically influenced by Buddha and Action Bronson, and fuelled by a heady diet of cigarettes and peanut butter, the Canadian-born DJ and producer chatted to i-D and delivered us a mix chock full of woozy Soft Touch sounds.

In love with electronic music since 2003, Bonnie aka juSt b only realized in late 2012 that she was destined to take her music passion to a deeper level. Her first DJ gig came in September 2013, after her long-awaited move to Toronto from Ottawa. In a short time, juSt b has played a host of successful events, including three appearances @ The Midnight MRKT w/ Lucie Tic, twice @ the Geary Ave warehouse parties, plus the popular underground club Toika, Bassline, Rasputin, Li’Ly Lounge, Nuit Social, & Parlour (where she earned a Thursday summer residency in just a few months). 

Her inspirations are as diverse as her personality, spanning a range of artists, genres, & styles, each one incredibly impactful in their own right. You’ll see from her impressive profile & mix collection, boasting a strong 1500+ following and over 26,000 plays, that she explores everything from smooth vocals & earthy rhythms to lush melodies & deep, sexy grooves; from tech-infused beats & dirty, seductive bass lines to fierce & funky dance floor bombs, with an emotive touch of progressive & subtle techno to round things out. She’s highly adaptable to a venue & crowd, driven by robust intuition & an exquisite auditory sense for intelligent depth & substance. She’s guaranteed to keep you moving, feeling, & yearning for more!

Major influences include long-time friend Brad Copeland, Luke Fair, Ricky Ryan, 16 Bit Lolitas, Henry Saiz, Marc Marzenit, Hybrid, Eelke Kleijn, & Jody Wisternoff (all of whom she’s had the privilege of getting to know personally), as well as Maceo Plex, Vincenzo, Tale of Us, Guy J, Guy Gerber, Boss Axis, Mind Against, Miss Melera, Hot Since 82, Hisham Zahran, Naveen G, Stimming, & Toronto compadres - @dustinnantais & @ev3rsun - plus SO many more!

2013-14 represented another turning point in Bonnie’s life & career & a celebration of what she’s learned and accomplished to this point. Amongst a city & industry of endless DJs vying for gigs & attention, juSt b is wisely forging her own unique path; taking pride in crafting unforgettable musical journeys on & off the dance floor while choosing her approach as carefully as she does her track selections.

Running on the heels of a recent 4-hr set @ Toronto’s CTRLRoom; a MET Entertainment DJ contest win; a mention in VICE Magazine by their global electronic music channel, Thump, plus several guest podcasts - including Halfwild, based in Melbourne, The Q-Trip, Party103 in NYC, and a special mix for Electronic Groove, there’s plenty of exciting things to come.....but for now, this is exactly the path she is meant to ‘b’ on.

Peace on Earth was born from the need to turn music into a space for unity, awareness, and a collective call for peace. In a world marked by injustice and violence, we believe that art, music, and collaboration can create moments of silence, reflection, and hope.

This compilation is a tribute to the children who have lost  and continue to lose their lives to war, hunger, poverty, and inequality. It is also a gesture of gratitude: while some of us are able to live our childhood dreams, millions of children will never have that chance.

The project began with an original track by Bodaishin & Lupe Republic, composed more than two years ago. Eight artists from different corners of the world offered to reinterpret it, working with the same stems but translating them into unique emotions, processes, and perspectives. The result: 10 diverse interpretations, united by one message.

With the support of Proton, 100% of the profits from this compilation will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, directly contributing to their humanitarian work in the most affected areas.
