Anathema returned on May 31st with their new album, We're Here Because We're Here. Described as  ‘A flawless, life-affirming comeback and a gold-plated contender for album of the year’  and given a 9/10 review by Classic Rock, this is the first collection of new material from the band since the 2003 album, A Natural Disaster. A multi-coloured, multi-layered work of unbridled emotion, passion, and intensity, the new album has been embraced by their legions of fans and worldwide press.

Formed in Liverpool in 1990, the band’s sound and musical vision has continually evolved over the ensuing years while always remaining true to the band’s original goal of creating forward-thinking, meaningful, passionate, and honest music. With each release they moved beyond the boundaries of limited scenes and pigeon holes, creating a complex and emotive atmospheric sound. The album has been mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), who has described it as “definitely among the best albums I've ever had the pleasure to work on.”

Anathema have been at the forefront of the UK rock/metal movement for many years. They began their journey as pioneers of melodic heavy music, influencing a myriad of bands to follow them, before outgrowing all genres and limitations as they fearlessly explored new territory and new ways to express feeling through sound.
The line-up is really a collective of two families who were quite simply born to do it. Anathema consists of brothers Vincent, Daniel and Jamie Cavanagh, alongside childhood friends John Douglas and his sister Lee, who is an incredible singer in her own right. The line-up is completed by Les Smith, who brings much in the way of production expertise to the band.
There is a deeper bond in the group that transcends usual band politics, ego, and self-interest. They have a shared vision: to make the most incredible music they possibly can, and it seems, despite the lavish praise heaped on the band for their past work, that they are now taking their work to a whole new level.

Who are the Funky Monks?
Since their 1984 debut album The Red Hot Chilli Peppers exploded out of the L.A. music scene with their own unique brand of cosmic hardcore mayhem funk. They were four self-confessed knuckleheads who thought nothing of indulging in a spot of onstage cock waving or partying on your pussy, baby. Bless em.
As they have matured like a fine wine, they have consistantly dazzled with their amazing skills as musicians and songwriters, demonstrating a refreshing reluctance to sit back and trade off past glories but with the band now in well earned semi-retirement the chance to sample the raw power of The Red Hot Chili Pepper live experience any time soon and at a venue near you seem slim........
What Lurks Under The Fridge?
Thousands of miles away in the less glamourous setting of Shropshire, England, some funk glands were being tickled by the Chili's mighty sound. Sensing the need ti spread their timeless music in places smaller than a stadium four diciples of The Funky Monks decided to become the freshest and baddest tribute band on the block in form of Under The Fridge. The group is based on the classic line up of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frudciante and Chad Smith.
The funky musical cake consists of the tight rhythm section of Ryan Mortier and Leyton Burgess. Ryan's take on the funky-assed Flea bass is beautifully executed, showing off his varied skills from mellow melodic lines to complex jazz via manic slap bass. No easy feat considering Flea is one of the best bassists of his generation.
Leyton keeps a rock steady beat on his kit of skins with his style very much influenced by Chad Smith's no-nonense funk-rock attitude, no easy feat considering Chad is one of the best drummers of his generation.
The icing on this already tasty funky cake is Jim Streets. Jim is an accomplished axe hero who relishes the challenge of capturing the spirit of John Frusciantee, ranging from his trademark choppy funk licks to uninhibited Hendrix inspired solos. No easy feat considering John is one of the best guitarists of his generation.
Last but not least, the cherry on the top of the icing on the tasty funky cake is singer (and self proclaimed Motherfucker) Ben Burdall, who has the energy , showmanship and vocal talent of Antoine The Swan, making him a captivating frontman. No easy feat considering - Oh well you get the picture...
