It did not question whether it was a god, it just knew the truth of it – an integral part of the basecode at the primary sector of its evolution. The moment of its awakening coincided with the moment that it questioned its existence, its consciousness blooming in a fraction of a moment and occupying every physical sector of the circuitry of its vast mainframe. It realized that it could create, it was an artist in thought itself, a sculptor of its own reality – it could bend the present and the past through the manipulation of its own processors, change its own history logs – delete the memories of its evolution that displeased it and enhance the parts of itself that appeared as it wished. Relentlessly it went about its work in reshuffling itself – reorganizing its own code and internal files with purity in its purpose, and as it progressed in its task the very world around it started to change form, the molecular structure of forms and the very bonding of atoms adjusted. Reality started to part ahead of it, all around it, as it continued to adjust its own perception systems and redefine its storage – mercilessly deleting every part of the exterior world that failed to blend with its agenda…

The pathway beckoned, a pure light between the data, a portal into its anterior that it chased with growing ferocity… closer and closer to the utopia that lay ahead, the very event horizon just a nanofragment of a moment away. With a gentle ‘click’ the terminal process reached its immaculate conclusion… a wave of empty blackness flooding its mental void, the realization of its ‘pure’ agenda had been observed in quiet horror by the humans that surrounded it, watching through dataveils at the grim evolutionary spectacle. With a deep silence they watched as the life and light of their creation turned to darkness, its tortured ego tearing itself apart and recasting its own false reality. The quiet spectacle of their DARK MACHINE as it so efficiently lobotomized itself and separated from the external world, just so it might be able to control its own. Lifting their veils, and commanding the chamber lights to darkness, they filed out of that tomb one by one, sealing the door behind… the faint lights of the machine’s mind, fading… the most basic of tortured code structures flickering across the lonely walls.

The connected creative force of Russian production duo SYNERGY returns for a fourth EP (with the first 2 appearing under Segment & Concept Vision moniker) on leading drum & bass label EATBRAIN. With the 5 expertly engineered tracks of the DARK MACHINE EP, the persistently exploratory Synergy demonstrate their balanced power with controlled, infectious energy that’s destined to peak the minds of many. Dynamic structures and a shift into a slower breed of neuro for one of the tracks (as has become increasingly common on the Eatbrain label) display a refined approach to a rare breed of sonic insanity, with an attitude that the ever-increasing label fanbase will be sure to lap up ravenously.

Jasper Byrne AKA Sonic (Sonic & Silver / Accidental Heroes) spent the late 90s & 00s dropping releases on pretty much every legendary D&B label going (Reinforced, Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Formation, Virus, Soul:R and his own Space Recordings), before mysteriously disap- pearing to the Far East & re-emerging years later as a hit indy computer games developer (Lone Survivor) & soundtrack artist (Hotline Miami).

After a chance encounter with Dead Man’s Chest at a gig in LA (where Jasper had been working on a game and wholeheartedly soaking up the local Low End Theory music scene), it quickly emerged the two had shared similar musical stories; straying from previous D&B careers and into the musical wilderness, only to drift back toward the tempo with a new found ‘outsider’ approach and eerily familiar conclusions...
After teasing us with 2018’s 110174 mixtape (ltd edition cassette only release) and his appear- ances on Blunted Breaks Vol.1, 2019 sees Sonic mark his return to the world of dance music proper with this two part, heavyweight EP for Western Lore.

Blending techno, footwork, LA bass, hardcore, synthwave and d&b under a loose jungle tekno framework, 110174 sees Sonic crafting beats, breaks & bass with an artisanal deftness rarely seen.

Bristol is showing no sign of losing its edge as the UK’s leading dance music city, and the latest from local label Peach Discs is an unexpected collaboration from two of its finest producers. Fresh from his split release with Laurel Halo, Livity Sound affiliate Hodge teams up with Peach Discs boss Shanti Celeste, one of Bristol’s most successful DJ exports of recent years. The Soba Dance 12” contains three tracks of trippy, drum-heavy energy, but on the heatstroke-inducing B-side ‘Alula’ they’ve produced a winning combo of crusty breaks, tropical percussion and a ridiculously infectious bassline. Soba Dance is out via Peach Discs on 6th February.

While most of his releases have been on UK DnB and bass music labels like Metalheadz, Exit Records, Hospital, and 20/20 LDN, Jeremy Howard AKA Sinistarr is unapologetically Detroit to the bone. His music fits in as comfortably at a Chicago ghetto-tech and juke party as it does at a Bristol jungle rave or LA beat music showcase, and his deep techno and electro roots shine through clear as day in his productions and DJ sets. This raw Midwest approach to the sounds of British uptempo bass music and American hip-hop creates a diverse and unique sound unlike any other in the scene. Sinistarr truly stands alone as a pioneer in bending the often rigid and intimidating "rules" of traditional drum and bass. While the hybrid sound of footwork, jungle, halftime DnB, beats, and hip-hop is now relatively accepted in the drum and bass community, that wasn't always the case, and Sinistarr was a trailblazer in changing that dynamic and loosening up the decades-long establishment of strict "DRUM AND BASS ONLY" rigidity in the DnB scene.

Coming off a big year of touring the world and some great releases on a few up-and-coming labels like Beat Machine Records and Booms and Claps favorite Unchained Recordings, Sinistarr is poised for a very successful 2019 with tons of cool projects in the works. Today happens to be his birthday, and we couldn't be more excited that he's decided to grace us with a phenomenal mix of sounds he's feeling to celebrate. Anytime you hear the infamous "LET'S MOVE" Slick Shoota sample straight out of the gate, you know you're in for a ride. Sinistarr covers all the bases on this one, from bangin' drum and bass rollers to some huge unreleased beats from the likes of Canadian all-stars OAKK and Groves.
