Parisian producer du jour Captain Mustache teams up with citymate and techno stalwart POPOF on ‘Bastille’ for one of the season’s most glittering ensembles. 

Echoing analog drum machine woodblock hits help create a propulsive rhythm atop a sprinkling of glitching electro FX and churning low end pulses before a heady riser delivers us to the wiggling 8-bit vibe bass arpeggio that bores through the track’s meaty middle. More retro computer game sonics emerge in the riff that filters and teases into earshot. Layers of fizzing techno energy raise the track further before we reach the tense breakdown phase. The riff judders and shimmers around the soundscape before one almighty filter sweep slams us front and centre back into the buzzing electro groove. The bassline slowly recedes into the background as warped percussive rhythms lead us out.

Captain Mustache returns to Exploited following the success of his Ulysses collaboration ‘Monkey Brains’ and other releases on KOMPAKT, Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi and Return To Disorder to name a few. Fellow Parisian POPOF makes his debut on Exploited on this release, bringing with him his years of experience working with the biggest names in techno, from releasing on Sven Väth’s Cocoon Recordings to remixing The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and Moby.

The tenth reference of LATIDO comes from the hand of Durand & Kadriana. Durand has a good bunch of previous releases on labels like Nein Records, Factor City, Logical Records or Esthetique to name just a few. For this new reference in LATIDO, Durand is joined by Kadriana, who is in charge of the vocal part of the tracks. 

The entire ep clearly sounds 80s. The synths, bass lines and melodies take you back to the New Wave and Synth Pop sound of the eighties. "Blood & Honey" is made up of three original tracks steeped in dark desires, mysterious daydreams and vampires conspiring on a retro-futuristic dance floor. 

Alongside the three original tracks are two fabulous remixes by bosses Fabrizio Mammarella and Undo. Both artists have been able to perfectly read the meaning of the EP, and their remixes fit perfectly with the overall sound of this release. 

With "Blood & Honey" you will sing, dance, and feel like the protagonist of a science fiction movie starring John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream.

A long-time resident at Barcelona’s legendary Razzmatazz and label head of Factor City for two decades, Undo is a Spanish mainstay with countless releases that have garnered support from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Roman Flugel and Erol Alkan. He teams up with fellow Spaniard and synth-pop wizard Casiowaves to return for their second collaborative release on Melodize after last year's 'Predict The Future' EP. The straight-forward 'Casiobass' kicks off with fizzing synth lines, chugging dark disco drums, a fat bass and circling pads. 'Overcruiser' is a pumping, Italo-influenced cut with retro-future chords and a clean, cosmic feel, while 'Something Blue' layers up the crispy analogue drums with sonar pulses, deadpan cold wave vocals and majestic leads that bring color and vibrancy. Drummer-turned electronic producer and live act Nhar, who boasts an impressive discography spanning two decades, makes his debut on the label with a remix of 'Waves to Come' that brings a widescreen serenity and calm to the original through pensive chord work and starry keys twinkling in the distance. The original then closes out with Balearic guitar licks, punchy drums, and rich bass for a fusion of retro sounds with futuristic sentiment. From the driving Casiobass to the Balearic, serene 'Waves to Come,' Undo & Casiowaves have served up offerings for all hours with the versatile 'Casiobass' EP.

One of the most consistent new labels around, Cyphon Recordings, marks double figures with another standout release that gleans from the past but faces the future. This time they look to the talents of Emotive Technology, a new alias from Chilean Massiande who provides a five-track EP of machine-wielding, soul-rousing techno from across the spectrum. Although this may be the first release under his new moniker, Massiande has spent the last decade putting out productions with labels such as Housewax, Phonica, Freerange and Groovin. 
 
Firing on all cylinders from the get-go, ‘Rise’ kicks off the Walk Into The Light EP. A hyperspace melding of new beat, Italo and arp-operating techno that opens out into a slice of peak-time revelry. The swirling textures of ‘It’s On’ follow, pushing you into the next dimension. A hypnotic, entrancing, and arresting heads-down powerhouse. Crunchy and considered it's the kind of strobe-stuttering basement jam that turns heads inside out. Two Detroit-leaning tracks ‘Your Zone’ and ‘Walk Into The Light’ are up next. The former is a heavyweight machine workout. Layered synth lines and crisp drum programming transfix, as that grooving low-end powers bodies into bedlam. The latter, a Motor-City-influenced tour de force. One that sees Massiande recode the circuitry to hit with a piano-laden stunner, balancing power and presence, with emotion and nuance.  Closing out ‘The Swing’ sucks you in deeper. A resonating world of synth stabs, pulsating bass lines and atmospheric electronics.
 
Walk Into The Light is machine music hardwired with a heavy sense of soul.
