Mixes I Josh Caffé

One of the leading names in Paris’ contemporary scene, @zadig-construct_re-form is one of the main forces responsible for the return of the City of Light to worldwide prominence as a centre for forward-looking techno. A participant in the ‘90s French rave scene in the hardcore and acid days, Sylvain Peltier found his true inspiration with the arrival of @axis-jeff-mills, Surgeon (@dynamic-tension), and @joey-beltram and labels like @tresorberlin, Lost, and Synewave and the techno that his style remains rooted in to this day. After moving to Paris in the mid-2000s, Zadig became quickly involved in the beginnings of what would become the present-day Parisian upswing, making an early release in 2006 as Day is Dying on the Rouen-based Euro Visions label. In 2009 he returned, this time as Zadig and this time to stay, quickly forging a relationship with the important @syncrophone label and distributor in Paris. 

There has not been any looking back since, and as Paris’ techno scene continues to rise from the ashes of the early 2000s to the vibrant, world-recognized heights it now occupies, Zadig has made essential contributions to this ascendancy. Starting in 2011, he launched his @construct-reform label, which has gone on to a residency at the legendary @rexclub and continues to debut and support bracing new French talent like @antigone, @voiski, @birthoffrequency, and Zadig himself. His own discography also continues to grow, with releases on the reknown Deeply Rooted House in 2013, the New York-based Chronicle, Children of Tomorrow, and continued support from Syncrophone, as well as compilation appearances on Tresor, @reclaim-your-city, and @studio-r. As Zadig’s reputation as a leader in the French scene has spread, he has gone on to play numerous dates around Europe, with appearances in Berghain and a deepening relationship with Tresor, at both @concreteparis and the Weather festival in Paris, and worldwide in New York and Argentina, alongside scene-leading contemporary talent and legends like Scion, @rodhad, @petervanhoesen, @dvs1, @inigokennedy, @samulikemppi, @jonas-kopp, @johannes-volk, @shifted, @lucy, and many more. 2015 saw the debut of his Unforeseen Alliance live collaborative project with label mates Voiski, Antigone, and Birth of Frequency, all of whom have moved on to increasing success as both Zadig and Construct Re-Form have gained recognition. 

With Paris’ resurgent club scene blossoming to worldwide attention not seen since the ‘90s, it is the dedicated efforts of those like Sylvain Peltier who have helped to bring about this revival and continue to lead it to new heights. As Zadig, as a label head, as a DJ, and as a central figure in its continued growth, he is an essential figure in its present and a leading light for its future.

Fresh off the release of their 'Imminence' EP,  Solique delivers the first installment of our new mix series. Based in Germany and drawing on inspiration from Adriatique, Denis Horvat, Dixon, Fideles and more, Julien and Can make up the Solique production duo. Even though both are partners, friends and roommates who share a passion for electronic music, the joint playing and producing connects the duo more than their long-lasting friendship ever could. Solique performs with a rare feeling of mutual connection, with meditative and assertive affairs that challenge the listener with unexpected but intuitive turns and interrupting grooves. First emerging with a release via Moblack, Solique continued to build on their creative synergy with a well-received EP for Turkish imprint Isolate. Beloved for their exotic percussive arrangements and avant-garde melodies, the duo then quickly found favour with Agoria, Ame, Aera, Dixon, Jimi Jules, Marcus Worgull, Nandu, Trikk and more. Beginning the year with their first and well-received microCastle project 'Imminence', Solique now steps up to provide the inaugural edition of our new mix series. Enjoy.

Kicking off things with our first episode, is one of the highlight performances of the year so far, all the way from Detroit, DJ Assault. 

Check out this 90min mix, recorded live from fabric on 25/02/22 in which DJ Assault took to our Room 1 booth (and mic) on a FABRICLIVE for the history books, which also featured ANZ, Simo Cell, OK Williams, Kush Jones, MELL G & more.

Craig Adams aka DJ Assault, has played a large part in flying the flag for ghetto-tech, aka booty music, which is a highly energetic fusion of electro, techno and footwork mixed with unique but body moving lyrics. His signature tracks “Ass and Titties”, “Sex on the Beach” and “Crank This Mutha” are a perfect example of his style. Assault’s own label, Jefferson Ave., is home to his work as a solo artist along with his rapping alter ego, Craig Diamonds, the Street Narrator.

Our Recorded Live at fabric series continues with 002 – Chloé Caillet. Taken from her set with us in Room 1 on 12th February 2022 where she played alongside Gerd Janson, Jennifer Cardini and more.

Inspired by the dance music scene of Bristol (UK), and the nightlife of New York alike, Chloé’s sound leans into anything from the rhythmic and funky, to techno’s more melodic tendencies, to sounds that are retro inspired and sometimes even mischievous. 

One half of PVBLIC XCESS along with fellow DJ and producer Josh Ludlow, and co-founder of Xcess Records, as well as a formidable solo act and artist in her own right, Chloé has been shaking it up and keeping it busy in the electronic music world. As well as having incredible substance to her musical output, style is also crucial for Chloé both visually and sonically, and fashion is a core player in her creative identity. As high-end fashion brand Miu Miu’s go-to supplier of tunes, she’s become a name synonymous with soundtracking some of fashion's most elite parties.

On 12th February the venue was a little more underground. Room 1 played host to Chloé for a set wrapping up at just under 3 hours. Having now joined us on numerous occasions, both solo and alongside Josh, it felt only right to dig out one of her most memorable performances with us so you can all enjoy.

Tuck into two hours in Room 2 with Echonomist ahead of his return on 24th September for the fabric presents Mind Against mix launch.

Next up from the vault is a Room 2 set from Echonomist, taken from an outing here in Farringdon pretty much exactly this time last year in September 2021, when he helmed a night performing alongside the likes of Mind Against, who joined for a momentous All Night Long next door in Room 1. 

With an array of past releases on the likes of Innervisions, Afterlife, TAU and Kompakt and some serious experience under his belt, the prolific Greek DJ and producer has established himself, and his music, as a force to be reckoned with. Pushing a sound that can tap into an expansive sonic palette, from the down-tempo and groovy, to the deep and rhythmic, or minimal leanings of techno, you can count on Echonomist to supply the variety and quality in abundant equal measure – and this set, displays his skill pretty finely indeed.

Echonomist features on Mind Against’s forthcoming fabric presents mix with his exclusive new track 'Mango', and joins the duo next Saturday (24th September) at the club for a highlight anticipated mix launch party. You’ll find him alongside fellow artists featuring on the mix Toto Chiavetta, Frankey & Sandrino, Sam Shure, Eli Verveine, Aera, Dyzen and of course Mind Against who join Echonomist in Room 1. Club resident Josh Caffé is front-and-centre for the next edition of Recorded Live from fabric. Get warm with 1.5 hours taken from Josh’s steamy DJ set from the SPORTS BANGER MEGA RAVE on 26th August 2021, ahead of his return for our annual 30-hour Birthday marathon across 15th-17th October.

Deeply embedded in London’s underground house and techno world, Josh exists not just as a DJ. With a versatile skill palette, Josh is also a producer and vocalist and the formidable frontman of infamous house and techno duo Paranoid London (made up of Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley). Josh’s sound roams from deeply versatile DJ sets, to live vocal performances that are driving and entrancing in equal measure – a perfect fit for the sleazy, throwback era, acid house, and old school Chicago house Paranoid London produce so well. As fabric resident Josh has stunned and enthralled us on numerous occasions both at the club and elsewhere. In March we took Josh’s live project along with a troupe of Vogue Dancers to the English National Opera, a set proving he could captivate any venue you put in front of him. Plus stand out sets like his live show at last year's Birthday have solidified him as more than a regular fabric player - fabric family. 

But his creative endeavours don’t stop there. Josh is also one of the masterminds behind beloved London dance music brand and queer party Love Child. Love Child is a collective with a clear-cut aim and has established itself as one of the capital’s best-loved names for seriously good music, and equally good parties. For our 30-hour Birthday, Josh has enlisted Love Child for a Room takeover. Expect a very special showcase from this tight-knit and boundary pushing collective. More details on Room splits, and further special guests for the weekend’s proceedings are set to be revealed in the coming weeks. So, we suggest you keep your eyes locked on the fabric channels for updates. 

This latest recorded set builds and pumps steadily throughout, with warping beats that will gear you up to lose control in the throws of the EC1 dancefloor all over again.

Josh Caffé has spent the last decade on a breathless trip through the fringes of London’s shifting house and techno continuum. As a DJ, singer/songwriter, producer and activist of British-Ugandan descent, Caffe’s influence has been felt everywhere from institutions such as Panorama bar and Adonis to his own Love Child party, curated at Fabric, where Caffe holds an influential residency. Collaborating with international icons of dance music and fashion such as Honey Dijon, he has become an even more visible and respected presence in recent years. Recently delivering his debut album 'Poppa Zesque' on Erol Alkan’s label Phantasy, Caffe has made his boldest statement yet. Two singles, ‘According To Jacqueline’ and ‘Do You Wanna Take Me Home?’ (remixed by Steffi & Virginia) effortlessly captured Caffe’s vision of queer liberation and sensuality. Working alongside both Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London, for whom Caffe has provided memorable vocal turns, and saxophonist Alex White of Fat White Family, Caffe’s solo material is charismatic, frenetic and rich in inspiration, from classic Chicago house, UK acid culture, 00s rap and his twin heroes, Prince and Grace Jones. All of these influences, be they sensual, jackin’ or sexually playful, echo through Caffe’s selections as a DJ. Mixes for Honey Soundsystem, Beats In Space, Naive and Love International speak for Caffe’s standing in the queer and wider dance music communities. Having forged an intimate connection with dancers across the sphere of underground house and techno, whether on the dancefloor and on record, on the mic or in the booth, in the grimiest of clubs or owning festival stages, Josh Caffe’s attitude and talent continues to inspire radical freedom.
