With a fierce reputation here in London for being one of the most uniquely authentic places to experience UK and US rap and R&B in a club environment, Players Ball will be stepping up to takeover Room Three a week on Friday with its residents Rob Pursey and Davey Boy Smith being joined by DJ Slow and Sinjin Hawke.  Run by the team behind Southern Hospitality - a blog, label and club night itself devoted to rap and hip hop – Players Ball has been described as “NYE in ATL in LDN,” an idea that perfectly encapsulates the wild sense of abandon the Southern hip hop infused music policy instils in the crowd. 

“With southern-themed rap nights now popping up all over the city, Players Ball is proud to have been the key catalyst in broadening venue programmers' horizons on what a hip-hop party in 2013 should look like, and opening the doors for this sea change,” offer the team behind the night. 

And as a more tangible description of the type of music you can expect at a Players Ball, Pursey and Smith put together this mixtape that explains the fusion of styles way better than we ever could.

Shivers come when the temperature drops and you become more keenly aware of your surroundings. It enables you to hear the city itself, to truly belong to the streets. It is a supra-natural ability; old wrongs play out in present time, scenes across the city happen in front of you. But who is speaking to you?

At high levels, Shivers may make you seem mad to the outside world – as you listen to the city, you don’t listen to others. Your superiors may begin to worry. With a low Shivers, though you will seldom hear the city speaking to you – and if you cannot hear it, how can you ever save it?

"So the mix, can you tell us a little something about that? 

Lately, I’ve been drawn to rolling tech-house from the ‘90s and early 2000s. There’s something about the way they lock into a groove that somehow feels timeless. So there’s a few records with that theme in the mix along with more house and melodic-heavy cuts.

I really enjoy the dynamic and contrast blending genres and old & new tracks to create these shifts in energy with a sense of push and pull. Around 29mins in you can hear an upcoming release of mine 🙂 "

Anna Kohlin has been shaping Stockholm’s underground from the inside. A long-time fixture behind decks and party lineups she sure knows how to read a room and flip it.

Her sets splice 90s house, tech-house, and breaks with newer oddities. Her approach is as precise as it's loose but never too clean. Expect gear shifts not gradients.

If you’ve danced at Stockholm venues such as Under Bron, NEU or anywhere slightly off-grid, you’ve likely caught her in her element.

As a producer, she’s released on Slump Recordings, Dirty Hands, KMA60, and Makemake Tapes. Her label, Inside Out, leans on the sound of the underground with cuts from Basement Space, Baby Rollén, Eric OS and herself.
