"We thought it'd be worth ending FKOFd's 2013 with a producer we've been fans of through the end of one alias and the birth of another. Nottingham's AKX first caught our attention with his deeper productions under the Gutcha moniker, but it was Arion Oates' move to the more ambient side of 140 that really caused us to sit up and take note.

"Although FKOFd003 is AKX's debut EP, the release's four tunes demonstrate just how talented the producer is - and how polished his sound has become. With sounds reminiscent of early Kahn and Jamie XX but very much with his own flavour, AKX opens the EP with the short but sweet 'Part One (Sunlight)', a track that evokes summer strolls through sunshine-speckled woodland. Fan favourites 'Define' and 'Dragonfly' step things up a notch while staying true to Arion's signature sound. Last but definitely not least, 'Tiger Eye' brings the release to a close with a lively and progressive vibe that still manages to pack an inviting sub-driven warmth."

A vibrant yet mellow setting is constructed through Guts' original vocal hook describing the meaning of love. The vocal projects an oasis of peace and unity, really capturing the human emotion. 

"Nibé’s break acts a clear reminder of his twist on the original, with the keys representing peaks of perfection on a completely new level. The subtle and off-beat half-step groundwork continues to punch with the second drop, as the vibrancy returns to envelop the listener in warm subs. "After our first three releases laid the foundations of what we're looking to achieve with FKOFd last year, we're opening 2014 with what we hope is an equally powerful message of intent. FKOFd004 also marks a slight departure from our norm, with the label's first few drum & bass-esque releases. But fear not, all four tracks on this EP continue where we left off at the end of 2013... 

"We've long been fans of Austria's DubApes, a production and DJ duo who've been terrorising Europe with their unique take on bass music for the past few years. Having first caught our attention with a number of well received releases on Bacon Dubs, we snapped up a FKOFd EP we felt best summarised Lukas and Salim's signature sound. 'The City' opens FKOFd004, full of threatening ambiance and powerful percussion. 'Feel The Tribe' bridles with tension before unleashing itself as a full-blown skank out riddim, there's no other way to describe it. 'Jah No Dead' takes the EP down a few notches, full of stripped back vocals and floating synths supported by a sublime rolling sub. With its powerful low end and almost Oriental vibe, 'Endangered Dreams' brings the EP to a close - albeit one that's equally at home on the stereo or on the largest of sound systems."
