A master of lovelorn emotional surrender, Volor Flex brings his narrative to an end with Sabo, his fourth and last album under this alias. The man who has been referred to as Burial 2.0, Alex Frolov of Syktyvkar, Komi Republic, Russia delivers us a complete, 20-track long, intensely introspective album, possibly his finest work to date. 

Sabo is laden with familiar bittersweet moods made of crisp, dancy garage breaks paired with artfully constructed soundscapes as fragile as glass that Volor peels back until they break apart and fade away. All twenty tracks enclose the darnkess of the boreal forest, the harshness of the tundra, the anxiousness of isolation, the solace of being lost in thought and the memories of a loved one. Volor Flex adds a new expanse to the timeless comfort area that he's been building and has now completed, a place of relief and daydreaming the listener will repeatedly want to come back to.

"Ominous synths and war cry breath their way through the intro, guided by a steady set of hi-hats and some badboy bongos. The dimensions of the growls that are revealed at the drop are so large that they cover a large portion of the sound field, making them sound liquefied, which may remind you of the good ol’ Catacombs days. 

"Lowryder successfully implements vocal samples to strengthen both drops. While the first announces Sea of Green's heaviness, the second one simply asks for a rewind. The overwhelming mid-range is expanded through the producer's use of deadly delay times and a heavy set of layers. Combined, the elements involved give this tune some serious class. Hooderz member Lowryder has created a serious statement. This track is an instant favourite - one best suited for any deep, dark endeavour!"

"The debut FKOF free from Marietta's Drew's Theory really does live up to its title. 'Organic' is a slow and sumptuous journey across the soundscapes in Drew's Theory's mind, one that opens with a repeating guitar loop that's slowly added to. Percussion adds the pace before the drop hits and the guitar fades out and the sub rises. It's a clear combination of the Drew's Theory influences, with hints of reggae fluidly mixing with hip-hop and trip-hop vibes. 

"There's a slight switch up during the break, with more elements added and growls coming in as the second drop rolls through. With the guitar hook returning to ripple across the sound field, the only thing that seems to be missing from 'Organic' is a vocal. It's a worthy addition to our collection of FKOF frees and we hope to have more material from Drew's Theory in the future!"

The third law of Metaphysix is titled Correspondence, which refers to a universal law that states “as above so below, and vice versa"—in other words, the universe is a fractal, and it's all connected. In this series, we look at the relationship and musical connection between Paris and Ultramajic.  We invited our close friends to take part of this compilation, and we also have a new artist joining the ranks: Crystal Bandito. 

This is the Ultramajic correspondence: Five ostensibly disparate producers from around the world translating similar musical ideas through cultural barriers. Label boss Jimmy Edgar finds a common ground with French talents Bambounou, French Fries, and Bobmo in rigid Chicago-influenced drum workouts, dusty drum hits, and staccato blasts. The two mysterious names on the track list, on the other hand—Aden and Crystal Bandito—offer a massive stomper with chunky hip-hop vocals and a unhinged techno tune with rashes of metallic percussion, respectively.

"I'm in love with the soft layered pads coming in with the girl vox up top of the mix, adding a lot of depth and emotion. The delayed synth sits perfectly with those pads, it's got a very nice delay on it – sometimes implemented on a off-beat basis!

"The drop is hard – serious business, very poppy kick which is present nicely in the mix and works well with the snare. I would have added a little bit more reverb to the snare, but other than that it’s very snappy and armed with some slicing power. The low-end is armed with weight, its patterns give the track so much flow. Definitely well composed and placed underneath the percussion and drum patterns.

"The percussion sounds fresh and well implemented – and the drum patterns fit well with them too. The growls are sounding sick, great progression in them and they're mixed down properly, loads of variations implemented. They show that Aiko has great control on his basslines and such.

"It's nice that you can hear these choirs fade into the background, accompanied by great guitar riff sounds that flow in and out of the mix frequently. It's great how the girl vox from earlier in the track returns in the mix with that piano type of synth coming in gradually – really enthralling!

"The break sounds proper with some nice dark samples used to convey a mystical feeling. The second drop is sick as well, new growls have been developed that flow through the mix nicely. There's even a nice little switch-up in drum patterns and everything!

"Aiko showing what he’s made off with his ‘Mystic’ track! With well deserved releases on Vulcan Audio and Imperial Audio, it’s only a matter of time before we hear some new dark and dangerous bits from him! Keep an eye out on this man from Spain!"
