Medieval

Music of the so-called "Renaissance", originally composed for lute or vihuela (an early guitar-like instrument). Played and recorded long time ago without any ambitions for "historical correctness" on a fat modern guitar.

This recording  was part of my very first studio production. I labeled it "affettuoso assai" and made copies on compactCassettes, each one by hand !  During the following years I managed to sell 500 pieces during my first gigs and concerts and was enormously proud of it.

Robert Johnson (ca 1580 - 1633/34) was an english composer and lutenist. His father John was lutenist at the court of Queen Elisabeth I.
Between 1610 and 1617 Robert Johnson composed for the "King's Men" theatrical company, providing music for William Shakespeare's plays. So he sometimes is called as "Shakespeare's Lutenist"

Though never been a real  "ancient music"-player, I loved  the pure substance in old, timeless jewels like this one. So please don't pillory me for that ;-) ***

A custom take on Bach's Invention No 4. Actually, as the song progresses - the song bears less and less resemblance to the original.. The only bit that's actually like the Bach version is the first 5 seconds or so..
I played most of the song by hand, but made the last part (from about 2:06) on the pc.
