Commissioned by Juice as part of the New Music Biennial, The Girls Who Wished to Marry Stars is a new theatrical work by Luke Styles featuring experimental vocal trio juice and Trish Clowes' jazz/classical ensemble Tangent. This new work takes the outlandish behaviour and characters in this Native Canadian folk tale creating a funky, playful and highly dynamic musical world.

I play to the autumnal auditorium—
trees heavy with birdsong and bonfire smoke.
Now, beneath them, I take my final bow;
timing was always everything to me.

Last of the Music Hall comedians—
last of the incurable romantics.
My mind whirs at seven gags per minute.
I am, at heart, a Shakespearean clown.

From Lime Street Station to the Palladium to
the last pie shop before the stadium,
when life is a comedy of errors,
keep your chin up, and let happiness in.

Not for me, the solitary meal in a tray.
Not for me, the damp chill of a bedsit.
Vaudevillian to my bones, skin the texture
of an autumn leaf,
now the time has come, I will take my final bow.

Last of the Music Hall comedians—
the last of my kind—
last of the incurable romantics.
