Part two and it’s on to someone who unless you’ve spent hours trawling Bandcamp, you probably won’t have heard of. Double Denim is the moniker of Bristol-based Tom Kelly. Somewhere (in what we can only assume is a tiny damp room) Tom has been carefully crafting, sun-kissed, lo-fi bedroom pop whilst (we’re assuming here too) digesting the entire Captured Tracks discography.

In our singles clubs we’ve always tried to focus on mixing completely new bands alongside some of our favourites (we’ve got lots of these lined up this time) which means we’ve given bands such as Splashh, Fake Laugh  and Joey Fourr their first proper releases. Hopefully this is just the start for Double Denim and we’ll hear lots more soon.

Every three weeks for the rest of 2015 we will be putting out a new 7" single from some of our favourite bands (both new and old).

Another act submerged at depth within the triumphant Straight Outta B-Town revival, melancholy melodies shine through on Things Betwixt, our 5th addition to the HCRC and, bafflingly, only our first collaboration with Dan Taylor aka Sulky Boy.

In his own words, you’re listening to the sound of 'hormones, moving house and the destructive power of randy, angry teenagers’. A not too distant direction from tracks that’ve recently made their way out on Beech Coma and Dan’s own Echochamp collective, then.

Produced by Paeris Giles (of Paeris Giles fame) and given a once over more recently by Kristian Smith, Things Betwixt will be released on lathe cut 7” and limited to 25 copies. They’ll be available from our shop at 1pm today!

Wire’s new mini-album, Nocturnal Koreans, is striking in its diversity, the band fluently negotiating an expansive stylistic range, from immensely catchy pop to ambient introspection and beyond. Chronicling a sleepless night that Wire spent in a seedy Boston-area hotel on their 2013 US tour, the title track is the kind of charging, urgent tune that’s always been vocalist-songwriter Colin Newman’s forte. The lyrics, by bassist Graham Lewis, make this one of guitarist Matthew Simms’s favourites on the record, largely because of the associated memories: “It’s a great snapshot of touring America and when I hear or play that song, it reminds me of the many weird and wonderful times, places and people that cross your path.”
