A short piece I composed as a competition entry for the DnD 5e Podcast 'The Mortal Path' (Which you should DEFINITELY be listening to if you aren't already!)

This piece was inspired by a moment near the start when the players encounter a room which gradually fills up with a vast starscape, and constellations begin to appear and disappear as the players list them. The constellations gradually appearing is why the parts of the song gradually build up on one another.

Originally I had another lower pitched layer to give the sense of the underlying scariness of the situation, but I took it out because A) it was a bit much and B) I feel like this chamber was almost a moment of respite.

nOCRturne in C minor

This is a track I composed a couple of years ago inspired by a character my friend created named Belladonna (the character, not the friend). Originally I did it with basic MIDIs and listening back now...Oof.

So here's a redone one with NICER sounding MIDIs! The original was the first time I tried writing a song with more parts than just piano, and this is the first time I've messed around with stereo sound, so this song always gets me to try something new. I hope you enjoy!

Belladonna

Another contest, another music! This is a composition that I've made for the Dungeons and Dragons 5e real-play podcast The Mortal Path.

This started as an attempt to write a theme for Kitty Dorkling's character, Nerium. I wanted to create something that gave off comfortable, warm, homely vibes, but on reflection I wasn't sure that was a true representation of Nerium's character (admittedly, there is still MUCH to learn about her!)

This wound up being kind of a struggle to make, though, as halfway through my MIDI>USB cable stopped working, and hasn't restarted since. Ho-hum.

But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!

Dreamy floaty patch that mostly plays itself!

Patch notes: Black Wavetable VCO through omsonic Really Nice Filter (cycled by Maths) combines with Tides for the bassline. Rings, played by Kinks' sample and hold (tamed by Maths) through a uScale quantizer, is the melodic line over the top. Grids plays a Basimilus Iteritas Alter and an Akemie's Taiko for the drums. Clouds produces the weird echoes, and Radio Music makes the bird chirps (thanks to Tom Whitwell of Music Thing Modular for the sample), bitcrushed by a Doepfer A-189-1. The chord changes are done manually using a Tetrapad to shift voltages. Phew!

Noodle Soup is basically a scratchpad of synthy segments and ideas, which I can make quickly and then upload without worrying too much about producing them into a "real song". It's kindof my synthpop notebook!
