Nat Russell has been playing music since the mid-nineties, initially as lead guitarist in a punk band at the tender age of fourteen. Whilst the band never progressed past that era, or even out of the suburbs of Western Sydney, it ignited a passion for music. A friend proverbially dragged Nat to the underground Sydney club - Sublime, in the late nineties and her love of electronic music was born.


The Global Underground compilations exposed Nat to the likes of big-name progressive DJs such as Sasha, John Digweed, Darren Emerson, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg, Way Out West and Deep Dish, and Nat purchased her first set of decks at the age of nineteen. 


Moving to Melbourne in 2002 cemented her passion for the electronic music scene and Djing. By then she had a healthy vinyl addiction and was a fan of record labels such as Bedrock, Renaissance, Baroque, Platipus, Yoshitoshi and dabbled in breaks, through 
the sounds of Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts and Stanton Warriors.
 
Nat spent several years in London, frequenting clubs such as Fabric and Turnmills, spinning tunes with friends at house parties and travelling to Ibiza, Europe and the USA to see her idols in action. Upon returning to Melbourne, Nat embraced a more deep, melodic house style and has developed a slight obsession with the Anjunadeep label, showcasing a range of the label’s artists in her mixes; specifically female producers such as Qrion, Just Her, Eli & Fur, Elif and Olan.

Nat has current residencies at Arbory Afloat, Music Room Melbourne and UK-based radio station AATM Radio. Nat regularly plays B2B as part of the Floating Dreams collective – a crew of Melbourne DJs playing the latest in deep, organic and melodic house. Nat has supported international and local artists such as Sebastien Leger, Double Touch, Martin Roth, Fede Pals, Kasey Taylor, Karl Pilbrow, James Beetham, DJ Koze and Gerd Janson.

Meet the crew! 

We are excited to introduce each one of the Floating Dreams DJs over the next few months. 

First up, it’s Laik Tan…

A classically trained violinist and self-taught guitarist, Laik started DJing in 2002. Cutting his teeth on progressive house and breakbeat in the 2000s, his taste has refined over the years to slower beats and emotive melodies.

Laik’s sets explore the organic, deep and melodic side of house, inspired by artists such as M.O.S, Deek That, Rigooni, CRi and Jody Wisternoff.

He has residencies at Music Room Melbourne and Arbory Afloat and in 2022, supported Sebastian Leger [All Day I Dream], Martin Roth [Anjunadeep] and Double Touch [All Day I Dream/TRYBESof].

Bio
he guy behind the name
Allan McLoud aka Scottish born DJ and producer
Allan Michie. From a very young age Allan was
listening to music, playing different instruments
and ripping guitar amps apart to find out how
they work. In the late 80’s he started to DJ and
produce Jazz influenced Hip-Hop using a
Commodore C64 and Amiga 500 with self-built
interfaces, but soon found his love for electronic
music after becoming captivated with the
sounds of 80’s synth music. He started out
making breakbeat before finding the fledgling
acid sound and finally finding his passion
producing trance, which was influenced by the
Dorian Gray sound of the time. He then started
DJing in Clubs in North Germany making a name
for himself and then deciding to move to the
Stuttgart area where he began doing studio
work for Unsubmissive Records. Throughout the
years after, he released a plethora of music on
several labels such as Technoclub & Future
records which were championed by the world’s
top jocks. Over the past couple of years he has been on a new mission to create more outstanding music for our listening pleasure releasing Progressive House tracks on Labels such as Bonzai Progressive, J00F Aura, Landscapes Music, Droid9, LuPS, Forescape Digital and the newly founded charity Label ShinyPeople.

March’s edition comes from Graham Sahara.

Graham is a multi-award winning DJ, Producer, and Label Manager for some of the biggest names in the music industry.   

Sahara’s genre-defying magic has left its mark on super clubs and 
venues across the Globe for over two decades. Since the turn of the 
millennium, he’s been a resident DJ at Pacha, the legendary club in Ibiza, making him one of the longest serving resident DJ’s in club land.

He was awarded Best Ibiza DJ 2017 in the internationally televised Ibiza DJ Awards,  having been nominated in the same category previously in 2006. He has previously won Best Ibiza DJ in the Ibiza Clubbing Guide Awards and was also nominated both as Best DJ and Best DJ of a Bar and Lounge in Spain's Deejay Magazine awards in 2008.

Graham has also now become one of the best Label Managers round. Whether its looking after the likes of Jonas Blue’s Electronic Avenue imprint, Eats Everything’s Edible label, or taking care of ARTBATS’s Upperground, the fact he is trusted by Worldwide names such as these, is a testament to his ability and knowledge of the Music Industry. 

We are very excited to have Graham put this mix together for us - hit play and enjoy the set!

G'Day and welcome everyone, this is the IL MODO Podcast. Each week we take you on a tour of Planet Progressive, searching for the most exclusive beats and grooves we can lay our hands on. 

Today we are back in Australia, and the home of an ex-pat bringing the noise to his new setting. Manchester is still in the area though, so check out this exclusive set from Marcus Graham!

As a kid from the UK growing up in 1980s Manchester, Marcus was privileged to live through the Factory Records era and enjoy the booming music scene, reshaping the city’s image from ‘dirty old town’ to the global mecca of nightlife and creativity it is today. While the warehouse and club scene  began to bubble away, Marcus spent his early teens listening to mixtapes from the likes of Sasha (who began his career in Manchester) the DJs of the Thunderdome and Hippos (Jay and Moggy) and the legendary 808 State Show - at the age of 16 Marcus got an invite to the Sunset studios, and was asked to play a live  guest mix on the show, then shortly after he was booked to play his first club gig in the city, warming up at Parliament Nightclub.

He spent many years clubbing and DJ'ing around Manchester and the City Centre, developing his style, and taking influences from the DJs of the Hacienda, Bugged Out and Tangled. He soon became hooked on the Progressive House scene led by Sasha, John Digweed, Renaissance, Cream and the Global Underground mix series, and, after a summer DJ'ing in Cyprus in 1999, returned to Manchester.

He subsequently held several residencies in Clubs & Bars around the City; Dry Bar, Joshua Brooks, South, the wonderful sweatbox where he had spent his twenties bouncing, Tangled and more recently Soundcontrol. These gigs gave Marcus the opportunity to DJ with many of his idols, such as Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff, Hybrid and Ashley Casselle.

30 years on, now living in Cairns, Australia, Marcus still hunts new sounds to share with anyone who will listen to this veteran of the Progressive House scene, creating mixes for a series called Just Add Sunshine, as well as producing guest mixes for other online platforms.

Bio:

VEGA (AU) is a longtime electronic music enthusiast and DJ with a flair for sophisticated sounds that delve into earthy organic and afro house percussions, to soulful deep/lounge and jazz house grooves, vibrant nu-disco, as well as ranging in atmospheric melodic, breakbeat and progressive house. 

Based in Melbourne, Australia, his sound has been influenced over the years from iconic labels including Anjunadeep, All Day I Dream, Large Music and Be Adult Music and is naturally drawn to track selections that evoke an emotive and atmospheric tone.

He has played in several of Melbournes' sought after nightspots including my aeon, Howler, Top Yard, and Brown Alley, where he has made support appearances on Anjunadeep event linups for artists such as Nox Vahn and CRi. Vega (AU) previously held monthly residencies at some of Melbourne's top venues including the balearic summer river bar 'Arbory Afloat' and the intimate 'Music Room' at HER Bar as a member of @floatingdreamsmusic. 

Floating Dreams are a collective of five passionate DJs who specialise in DJing and hosting organic, melodic and deep house centric events in Melbourne. Over the past several years, the group has funded and held a series of day party and evening events at Brunswick's Howler, with headline artists including Anjunadeep's Dee Montero, Blake. 08 and M.O.S., as well as Double Touch [All Day I Dream].
