'Fallout' is the first single from 'Slate Horizons'(fluffling.bandcamp.com/album/slate-horizons) and pretty much sets the tone for the entire album. Inspired by current events, 'Fallout' turns our reality it into a bleak vision of a post-apocalyptic nightmare.

Rather than telling a literal story, the track's powerful, dark, industrial and ambient sound, combined with intricate textures and experimental cinematic sound design, creates abstract, yet almost tangible imagery.

In a wider sense, 'Fallout' serves as an allegory for loss, big change, finality and re-adaption. It's the story of loss, grieve and solitude, but also hope, survival, re-inventing oneself, strength and determination.

The Asylum is the second single from Metalogue & Fluff's collaborative album 'Slate Horizons.
Industrial and dark like the rest of the album, 'The Asylum' uses quite a conventional song structure and lyrics, while playing with distortion, big sounds, glitches and layers of vocal textures.

02 The Asylum [Metalogue & Fluff]

Among many other things, Vera Sola is a poet, composer, Harvard literature scholar, and – of course – a songwriter. Although she’d written her own material over the years, it wasn’t until last year that she shared her music with another living soul. After serving as a touring member with Elvis Perkins’ band, Sola holed herself up in Native Sound Studio in St. Louis to record her songs for the first time ever, resulting in her debut album Shades, which she’ll self-release on Nov. 9. In the spirit of found object art, Sola used everything from bones to glass and filing cabinets to flesh out the folk arrangements she was creating.

The original version of the album’s single “The Colony” features Sola crooning with a vicious vibrato over brooding instrumentation that feels like it could’ve come from a long-lost spaghetti western classic. Sola was inspired to write the song after witnessing the native water protectors at Standing Rock, singing from the perspective of colonizers venturing to what’s now known as North America and claiming, defiling the land. The clatter of the rhythms and Sola’s merciless perspective of white colonialism is powerful in itself, but now the song has found itself diving even deeper into darkness.

Zola Jesus’ take on “The Colony” embraces the sinister edge stewing in Sola’s original song, unearthing swells of distorted bass drums and turning Sola’s voice into a ghostly haze. The pulse of the rhythms rattles viciously, shaking wildly alongside Sola herself. It creates a tension that’s drawn out throughout the entirety of the song, finally opening up to a clamor of beats erupting near the end. It’s hard to think of an artist more adept at breaking apart Sola’s already stirring work – performing a musical biopsy that stays true to the original’s core while and opening up new aural paths to the spirit of Sola’s work.

INDIGOS, the latest export of Bristol’s vibrant and significant live music scene, are pleased to announce their signing to premiere shoegaze bastions Club AC30 with the release of their heavenly self-titled debut EP.

An effortless blend of 90s post-punk grunginess mixed with layers of psychedelic guitars and irresistible pop hooks makes ‘INDIGOS’ an enchanting prospect, steeped in that ever popular juxtaposition between dark existential angst and blissful summer licks.

The 4-track was produced by Ben Johnson and IDLES guitarist Lee Kiernan with individual parts recorded from different studios, born as much from the bands financial limitations as anything else. Within these constraints they were able to pull together from various sessions and with the help of multiple collaborators, crafted something that sounded unexpectedly polished and extraordinarily expansive.

Opener ‘Silhouette Of You’ enraptures with its dreamy duel harmonies, marching, anthemic beat and blistering chorus while follow-up and lead single ‘I’m Healed’ goes to ever darker depths. ‘Animalistic’ leans into their cool slacker grooves and nonchalant delivery before euphoric closer ‘Out Of Body’ displays their more intimate stylings beautifully paired with a brutal cascade of riffs.
Lyrically the writing is diverse but always viewed through a poetic lens, exploring themes of self-reflection, projection, nostalgia, dystopia and more. They tells us that “our lyrics very often grow out of streams of consciousness as we bounce off each other’s ideas. We usually don’t know what a song is even about until it’s very nearly finished. Rather than trying to force a song into a preconceived ‘box’, we feel that creativity thrives on letting go of attachment to the end result, leaving the song to take on a form of its own, guiding the next steps we take, and essentially writing itself. Each song is as much a mystery to us as it is to anyone else, and that’s the way we like it.”

Recalling the likes of Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins and The Brian  Jonestown Massacre, their songwriting knack and live reputation piqued industry interest early on, with two Dot to Dot Festival  appearances, a support slot with Cherry Glazerr and 6 Music airplay.

INDIGOS - I'm Healed

"I'm not a good talker, so music becomes my voice." 

I'm an east London producer, song writer, sound designer and vocalist. 'Fluff' is my solo project. (I'm the other half of trip-hop duo www.soundcloud.com/silverstreaks). 

Fluff-music combines traditional songwriting, indie, electronic, goth, ethereal/synth pop and experimental/cinematic sound design into powerful, emotional sound scapes. Manipulated field recordings and audio textures add suggestive sounds to evoke raw and visceral emotions in the listener. 

Influences: 
Indie/art rock, darkwave and the electroclash scene in the mid 00s.

'Down the Rabbit Hole' is a reflection on our world as it is today. Greedy, destructive, homogenised, selfish and exploitative. But we're resilient creatures. There are some fun, light-hearted tongue-in-cheek stories of adaptation and survival by becoming pretty fabulous.
