Very excited to present the next guest in the series - The unstoppable DJ Mantra. At this point she needs little introduction but if you don’t know she - along with partner Double O - is responsible for what has become London’s premier Jungle night - Rupture. They’re actually just about to celebrate their 16th year running. It’s a grass roots event and community and this extends to her work with EQ50 - a collective of women working towards fairer representation within drum and bass.

A real pleasure to talk to and we discuss how she was introduced to Pirate Radio by over-hearing her older brother listening to stations in his bedroom and how she started off her fascination with it all as a garage raver. She’s just someone who is so in touch with grass roots and the building of communities - and these are topics that come up time and time again in this chat.

Not many developments to speak of since my last mix. The president of Brazil,
Jair Bolsonaro still claims the Amazon `remains pristine and virtually untouched.` This is completely untrue of course as data from Brazil`s own space agency shows the number of forest fires in the Brazil between January and August surged by 84% for the same period in 2018.

He addressed the United Nations General Assembly last week claiming Brazil is `one of the countries that protects its environment the most.` He has also claimed the environmental relevance of the Amazon has been inflated, and that the Amazon is not a global property. This may or not be true but it would be nice if he recognised it has at least some part in the cogs of the world. Instead he commented `It is a fallacy to say that the Amazon is a heritage of humankind, and it is a misconception, as scientists claim, to say that our rainforest is the lungs of the world.`


Bolsonaro said he was `especially grateful` to U.S. President Donald Trump for supporting him over the `negative media` he has received over the fires. He commented `President Trump well epitomised the spirit that must prevail among U.N. member states: respect for the freedom and sovereignty of each of us,`. So obviously they are both friends and share a common goal in this, with Bolsonaro also an avid user of twitter just like Trump.

He finally added `The Amazon is not being devastated nor is it being consumed by fire as the media is falsely portraying,` and `Do not hesitate to visit Brazil.` Really ????

In other news a young girl from Sweden, Greta Thunberg, is doing well to give the politicians a hard time of the mess they are complicit in. Claiming they are just ignoring the science of the last 20 years as the goal for profit is seen as paramount over saving our home.

As a producer, DJ and label owner Charlie Fieber continues to be an important figure in the development and innovation of UK electronic music genres with a career spanning over two decades. As Fracture, Fieber’s output is prolific and never stands still. From the hyper sped up Techno sound of Turbo to the genre blending Footwork Jungle collaborations with Teklife regulars DJ Earl, DJ Spinn and DJ Taso. He is constantly experimenting and flipping the script and 2022 saw the release of the world building Ambient Electro album Omura with Sam Binga. Releases and affiliations have come from some of the UK’s legendary hardcore continuum labels such as Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit records, where in 2016 Fieber was part of the mysterious Richie Brains supergroup with fellow experimenters Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fixate, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray, and more recently with Alix Perez’s 1985 which saw the curveball collaboration with Kenyan artist Nah Eeto. Fieber’s latest work is his most ambitious to date; '0860’ is an album, radio station and interview series that explores the history and legacy of Pirate Radio and its importance in the development of UK underground music.
As a DJ his sound has travelled with appearances on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Boiler Room, Fact Mag, Rinse FM, Keep Hush and multiple US, EU, UK and Asia tours. 
In 2009 the label, Astrophonica, was set up as an output for his own music with Neptune and has since become a home for other like minded and experimental artists such as Sully, Client_03 and Moresounds. Fieber’s impeccable A&R has led to a flawless and in demand back catalogue championed from Annie Mac to Sherelle and with multiple nominations in DJ Mag’s Best Of British awards.
