The first in a series of various artists to be released by Details Sound - The Spirit Of The Age Vol. 1 is a personal attempt to represent "the spirit" of this moment, an eye on the sea, where the initial intention of powerful and dynamic body music is changing, leaving room for a more contemplative and reflective way of dancing, where large places give space to the little ones, taking back the original spirit of being together.

On the A side, Anatolian Weapons opens with A Series Of Changes - a progression of looped vocals and acidic basslines that culminate in a full, liberating rhythm. Following A Hand Modern Cage focuses on a more hypnotic and evocative soundtrack that can perfectly match an atmospheric opening.

On the flip Gamma Intel’s Note To My Love deliver a mix of broken and electro rhythms that are part of the artist signature sound, ending with an intricate weave of melodic basslines. The last track Dense And Ragged is signed by the renowned london-based duo Vactrol Park who set the mood for a distopyan trip in 2049.

VOLTA CAB _ Balearic Balsam EP

Russian Producer Volta Cab presents himself in MM Discos with Balearic Balsam EP, a record that explores the borders of the sound that was born in the white island, blending it with a “new-wave” oriented vibe.

On the A side, Saint Petersburg based producer, shows us what he likes the most partying obscure rhythms with summery-soothing atmospheres. “Shujumi” plays along with more ethnic and oriental sounds while “Balearic Balsam” gets highly influenced by the 80’s new wave.

On the B side, the talented Greek producer “Anatolian Weapons” takes over the control by remixing Shujumi, he twists the original track and adds different acid elements building a perfect 4x4 killer straight to your brain. Volta Cab finishes the EP with “Vedic Space Vehicle”, getting a little darker than the previous tracks on the A side but without changing the vibe, delivering an excellent new-age-elektro rooted anthem.

We believe reflection, contemplation, (some) stagnation and adaptation are our best ways to go through this situation.  Therefore, we have decided to move forward with our plan to release a little digital compilation to celebrate our 5th la- bel birthday. 5 tracks for 5 years.
To the task we have asked a couple of family members to contribute tracks as well as uncovered some secret ver- sions we've been playing out for quite some time now and felt it is the right time to release them. Flippen Disks follows up their much acclaimed label-debut with an intriguing second release by Yuto Takei named “Bells From The East EP”.
Yuto Takei’s first vinyl release displays a wide array of sounds with a particular interest in rhythmic experiments and the negotiation of sonic space.

The Tokyo-based producer and DJ takes the listener onto a trip through deep spheres, percussive workouts, jammy compositions and electronic psychedelia, leaving the listener at times startled as to whether it is humans that are manipulating machines, or vice-versa.

Having worked as an electronic music composer for video games such as Gran Tourismo, this uncanny valley is known territory for the artist. It is, however, further explored on this four tracker, staying true to Flippen Disks paradigm of releasing club-oriented music, non-functional enough to not only be danced but also listened to.

Title track Bells From The East is an 8 minute jam, in which a krauty psych attitude pairs up perfectly with the goofy lead melody.

For the very only release of 2020, Blue Night Jungle decided to go 100% DIY. Through a 100% hand-dubbed tape and 9 tracks, we decided to gather many of the artists that attracted our attention in the recent months - as with long-time friends from the BNJ Catalogue (shout out to Lyon’s Jibis and Vardae). As 2020 wanted to, the compilation goes out of the club and reunites various atmospheres and musics. Sci-Fi ambient with Smogo, cavernous D’nB from Vardae, Adhémar’s electronica, greek downtempo of Anatolian Weapons and acid reflexions with Jibis, DudMode and Boskøw : this is just a glimpse of what you’ll hear there. Benedikt Frey is many. Or just one? He is a composer. An arranger. A DJ. A ghost producer. A fan. He plays in bands like INIT, or Dolphins or KEYS +++ produced the last two albums for Chris Imler. Downbeat in experimental dub zones. The goat for Edits and remixes. When house was his nation, he used to listen to pen names like Suedmilch or Venedikt Reyf. He still likes the music formed under their umbrella, but today his tomorrow is not echoed in yesterday. His sound signature moved on. Into the open. He founded labels like R.i.O. or Serious Trouble. 

He lives in Berlin. Physically. In mind Benedikt Frey is at many places. Traveling far thru his home studio that is a flat a studio a flat an instrument a record collection a flat a studio. Everywhere gear, vinyl, tapes, instruments, rooms for spontaneous sonic notions, these moments, when a sudden strike of stimulation falls. He is inspired a lot. For music to dance. Music for films. Music for live shows. Music for dancing glows. Techno, house, downbeat, ambient, jungle, electronics outside the norms. Those transportive ones. Jamming with others. Jamming with his mind. In Berlin Wedding, North of the town, where the lights dimmed low, neighbors share the flow, and a small river runs slow.  As a DJ he plays here, there, everywhere. Big clubs, small shacks, festivals, gatherings. From fast to 90 BPM - as he feels. 

For himself. For the crowd. In the spur. He still remembers his club kid days. Going to dance with friends. Down there in Offenbach. Doing the Robert Johnson. Collective emotions for a better tomorrow. These he still seeks. In his music. His shows. His collaborations. You can book him for a party. For enlightenment. For ecstasy or introspective perspectives. Dancing slow, whilst pirouetting a high-pitched show. 

Since more than a decade. His own music is out there, too. Bringing his spirits in sound. On his own labels. On international imprints like ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Craigie Knowes, or Emotional Response. Solo works. Driving ones. Slow drills. Teased during his DJ dates around the planet. 

The music plays day and night. Inspiration comes. From a simple kick drum. A movie sequence. A bird on the sill. A picture, totally still. Can’t kick that feeling when it hits. Benedikt Frey. In dreams. In streams. In music. Emotions. Situations. At night. In those flashy lights, when it bites.
