For our first broadcast of 2018, we're joined by Aotearoa dub and electronic icons Unitone HiFi. The trio, comprised of 'Stinky Jim' Pinckney, Angus 'Mo Delay' McNaughton, and Joost 'Dutchieman' Langeveld, have been making deadly dubwise transmissions since 1991. They've recently ended an extended hiatus with a new tune 'One Spirit' and their first live performance in two decades at this year's Laneway Festival. Auckland duo DJ Kush Boogie are becoming renowned for their warm and atmospheric house music, rich in melody and ready for the dancefloor. They already have two 12"s out via Lobster Theremin, as well as releases under their own aliases - Oli as Hugo Jay and Storage Media, and Dirk as d.tyrone. The duo cut loose for an hour at the start of the program. After that, we air a radio remix of a live set by Ducklingmonster, an Onehunga-based artist and one part of juggernaut Dunedin act The Futurians. Simon plays some warmth to round out the show.

One of the most crucial releases of 2017 was the Diggin' In The Carts compilation, a deep dive into Japanese video game music curated by Nick Dwyer and Kode9 and released on Hyperdub. We hounded Nick to jump on the show since the comp came out, and we're so stoked to finally air his guide to VGM. After that, we have a mix from Minneapolis-based DJ and producer TML, whose music draws the line between mid-western raves and UK soundsystem culture. His Machine Bias EP was just released last week on Hotflush, and we celebrate with a mix he recorded in the haze following a brief trip to NYC.

One of the most distinctive talents to emerge out of Melbourne’s techno scene, Mosam Howieson's (https://soundcloud.com/mos-how) singular brand of experimental live techno is texturally colourful, warm and immersive, drawing in listeners and dancers alike.

Patterns of Perception 30 sees Howieson set out to both challenge and captivate the listener, expertly weaving an array of textures, genres and atmospheres into a intriguing, powerful body of work. 

Having already released on @silent-season and @further-records, among others, his next EP is slated for release on Butter Records, and features remixes from Wata Igarashi (https://soundcloud.com/wata) and Sleep D (https://soundcloud.com/sleepd). His European debut at Belgium's Meakusma festival has also been scheduled for September, signalling what will no doubt be a breakout year for the Australian artist.

Italian production duo, Mushrooms Project, make their debut on Jansen Jardin with the wonderful, ‘Galattica’. Releases for labels like Under The Shade and Is It Balearic? and remixes for the likes of Tirk, Lipservice and Nang have introduced their blissed-out, Mediterranean sound to fans around the world.

Galattica is 11 minutes and 45 seconds of high plains drifting, dream disco for late night drives and sunset sessions. A lush combination of Euro disco arpeggios and West Coast guitars spill out across a landscape of live percussion, bass and dub acrobatics. This is the soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western set in Ibiza. A Fistful of Cervezas.

The remix comes courtesy of the mighty Chicago Damn who has been responsible for some extraordinary music from his debut on Mark E’s Merc label to releases on Claremont 56 and his own eponymous imprint. Here he re-imagines the original track in the image of Model 500, stripping away the music to a raw machine groove. Dark, atmospheric and undeniably aimed at the floor.
