Hailing from the dynamic music scene of Moscow, Anna, known as Ángel-A, began her artistic career in 2020. In 2022, after falling in love with the Mexican Caribbean, she moved to Tulum, where she started performing on the local scene, taking her listeners on a musical journey through Downtempo, Deep House, House, and Tech House genres.

DHTM Mixseries 095 - Ángel-A

London-based duo Trilucid, consisting of South African Hilton and Scotsman Andy, have, in just a short time, risen through the ranks of melodic and progressive house to become one of the stand-out acts of the moment. Their music has clocked up over 50 million streams on Spotify, topped Beatport and Traxsource charts, and drawn support from global tastemakers and underground trailblazers alike. They have drawn on their extensive knowledge and experience of electronic music to create a sound that is entirely their own, combining elements of deep and melodic house, progressive, electronica, and techno to captivating effect.
Over the last decade, they have held a five-year residency for The Gallery at the legendary Ministry of Sound and released records on Anjuna, Global Underground, UV, Colorize, Proton, ZeroThree, and their own label, Ionica Audio. Their tracks routinely garner millions of streams, spend months in Beatport and Traxsource charts, and gain support from some of the biggest artists across a host of genres. They have toured extensively both in the UK and overseas, including their residency at Ministry of Sound, SW4, and Egg in London, and Space, Amnesia, Pacha, and Café del Mar in Ibiza, plus a major tour of Australia supporting Duke Dumont and Nora En Pure.

This week our Homegrown Hero is none other than Niles Baxter.
Niles Baxter is the Co-founder of LABYRINTHE and resident DJ at City At Night in Ottawa.
He has also notably performed at AIM Festival, Escapade Music Festival, Trance Unity Rave and Newspeak.

Julie/Anne is a DJ established in Montreal and has been in the scene for many years. She played back in February at Velvet Speakeasy alongside Guillaume Michaud.

SEED : Her first gig was at the Salon Daomé in 2016 where she opened for Alex Gragnani of Imagine Records. Afterwards, Julie/Anne played in many underground events.

“ I’ve been an artist since a young age and was a former singer. Music made me believe in myself and now I am the artist that I always wanted to be. With my own colors. My personality. My way of communicating.“ - Julie/Anne

ROOTS : Julie/Anne biggest influences comes from melodies of Tel Aviv with original productions and smash remixes from Shai T and she also adores the progressive influences from label Balkan Connection.

Doga Erbek is a Turkish DJ/Producer who has performed at Escapade Music Festival in Ottawa, and opening for international acts like Nora En Pure, Franky Rizardo & more.
Doga’s Bazaar Müzik series, which involve oriental/middle eastern sounds, gives a good representation of his background as an artist.

“I’d have to say that the most notable set for me was my opening set for Franky Rizardo at “City at Night” in Ottawa. - Doga Erbek

“I’d say regarding the past few years, when it comes to producers, names like Daniel Rateuke or Derun are my favourites. And for djs, the most influential ones have been Eelke Kleijn, who I have seen 5 times so far (and counting) & Oliver Koletzki.” - Doga Erbek

Quintana, who hails from Venezuela and is established here in Montreal, is a prominent DJ that played sets at major events in Venezuela, Colombia, Portugal, the US and Canada. He has played alongside Paul Van Dyk at Valencia Fest and he played here at Salon Daome. As an electronic music producer, Quintana's sound is recognized by his pulsating basslines and his acid stabs.

“ My first gig was back in 2012 at Sophia Club in Venezuela. Back then, I was playing Trance Music and I remember that the atmosphere was incredible.“ - Quintana

ROOTS :

“ My interests are always evolving but currently my biggest influence is an Italian artist called Ness. I like him because he has his own signature, his own sound. His sound is deep, groovy with some psy elements.“ - Quintana

Don Mescal is a DJ that has been involved and playing in the scene for 20 years. Inspired by folkloric multiculturalism, he loves to experiment with the traditions of world music and his musical voyage combines a selection of a myriad of styles from Folktronica, Rub-a-Dub, Jungle & Tribal with a joyfully flamboyant vibe. 

He has toured around the world and got crowds dancing in clubs and festivals such as Boomtown, Burning Man and Eclipse Festival. Don is also the co-founder of Cosmovision Records, a music label and collective created by a mix of artists from various countries.

SEED:

"I have a hard time remembering where exactly was my first gig because it was a very long time ago but it was in a small bar in the French city of Lyon. My live performances that marked my memories are definitely the time I played at Burning Man, Boomtown Festival and Piknic Electronik." -Don Mescal 

ROOTS:

"My biggest influence right now is all the fantastic local artists we have here in Montreal such as El Extravagante, Oonga, Swa Swally and Adam Husa just to name a few. A lot of international headliners are not going to be back to Montreal for a while that is why it is crucial to open our eyes to the amazing local Heroes we have right here in our city. Montreal's scene is one of the most dynamic in the world with a variety of music so let’s focus on growing it together. I am really grateful and proud to be a part of it." -Don Mescal
