Squirrels On Film is delighted to share a haunted song cycle of kosmiche dark-wave/cold-rave sonic incantation from Alyssa Auvinen Barrera aka LDY OSC. “Electric-Earthy-Esoteric” follows phenomenal EPs on The Bunker New York & Sweden's Kontra-Musik by the Mexican born, Texas raised musician & DJ who currently resides in Vienna. LDY OSC uses synthesis, rhythm & voice to conjure layered compositions that draw from post-punk, techno, dub & underground synth-wave.

Bad Connection pairs 80s Horror synths with a dynamic vocal performance, sultry Pink Room Twin Peaks cabaret one minute, guttural post punk shrieks the next. The rhythm section of vintage drum computers is drenched in soupy reverb.

Generate is full-on cosmic forest rave, rays of bright lysergic sunshine & boundless blue sky within an EP that largely inhabits misty moonlit nightscapes. Her distinctive percussive vocalizations bounce and echo around the laser-focused motorik propulsion & vaporous clouds of synthesizers.

Give Me is vampiric late night techno, an anthem of frustration & release, the sound of a grim overcrowded warehouse in Sheffield transcendent with ecstasy, her vocals providing urgent humanity within the cold machine structures.

Red Cosmic Moon is an epic atmospheric dub soundscape, a miasma of witchcraft, phantasmal woods bathed in celestial radiance, otherworldly spirits making contact with an earthly realm.

These incredible tracks were mastered by San Francisco Industrial Techno OG Mark Pistel & the vinyl features an original double-sided full-color image by Squirrels On Film Artist In Residence Bert Bergen. There are exclusive instrumental versions of Give Me & Red Cosmic Moon available digitally. We feel this is a special entry in the Squirrels catalog & we're privileged to share it with the world.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Suction Records, the Toronto-based electro/IDM label founded in 1997 by two emerging producers, Lowfish (aka Gregory De Rocher) and Solvent (aka Jason Amm), the latter still overseeing the label to this day. The label’s inaugural release was a split Lowfish/Solvent 12”, marking both artists’ debut vinyl appearance. 

Gregory and Jason had known each other since high-school, but a deeper friendship was forged during their university years, after Gregory introduced Jason to early Rephlex releases by Aphex Twin and µ-Ziq. Gregory had been making electronic music in his bedroom for more than a decade, but it was those Rephlex releases that ignited Jason’s passion to do the same. After several years of obsessive gear buying, music making, and playing tracks for each other, Lowfish and Solvent had hit their stride, and their demos even attracted the interest of legendary early IDM labels labels Skam (for Lowfish), and Isophlux (for Solvent). But things were slow-moving in those days — letters, faxes, phone calls… nothing was panning out. So that’s when they decided to start their own label, and put out 300 copies of this 12”, suction001.

The label was heavily inspired by contemporary artists like AFX, Autechre, and Panasonic, but on suction001, those influences collided with their ‘80s synth-pop and industrial roots to create something unique. 25 years later, it still sounds fresh, and like nothing else out there. On suction001, 808 drum machines are run through distortion and breakbeats are chopped and mangled, contrasting with melodic OMD-style leads and catchy synth-pop basslines — a sound the label would refer to as ‘distortion pedal new wave.’ 

Over the past 25 years, Suction’s sound has morphed and evolved, but in recent years has shifted back to it’s original Rephlex-inspired roots. That makes 2022 the perfect year to revisit this wild, 1997 debut, now reissued in a new, expanded edition for it’s 25th anniversary. The reissue adds 2 bonus tracks — a 1999 remix by Detroit electro-punk duo ADULT., along with a previously-unreleased version of Lowfish’s A1 cut, and also features new and improved artwork, including an insert with full label discography. 

Limited to 500 copies, and comes with a Bandcamp download card.

SCR003 - L/F/D/M - Frozen Animals EP

On 26 February, hundreds of Israeli settlers went on a violent late-night rampage in Huwara and other villages in the northern West Bank, leaving one local resident dead and 100 others injured and the town ablaze.

This compilation of music was put together in order to raise funds that can hopefully give some aid to the residents of Huwara, all of the proceeds Confused Machines make from digital sales will go directly to Physicians For Human Rights – Israel (PHRI) www.phr.org.il An NGO that works in the occupied Palestinian territory, promoting Palestinians' right to health and providing direct medical and humanitarian assistance.

The compilation hosts a roster of both local and international artists spanning a wide spectrum of leftfield electronic music. Acid, Drone, Noise, Downtempo, Techno, SoundCollage and more.
All of these tracks are new and have not been heard before, many of them have been created with Huwara and Palestine in mind.

Though we know our reach is limited, we see this as a part of a bigger political effort to help raise awareness in our artistic circles and set motion to positive forces in dark times.

JenZi's 'From The Vaults' label. Following Sneaker's EP's of 'Meet The Heat' and
'Rhythm Composer', we have here another exercise in drum programming
and syncopated rhythms. Groove and acid. Drama, culmination and relief.
'Beat Goes On' is an 808+303 jam with long-term collaborator and solder-king
Jacob Korn. Sneaker gave the message a voice - with a classic acappella
from the Orbit.
Exploiting the classic Dancemania drum machine, 'Dr. Rhythm' dazzles you
with a doubletime kick, triplet toms, tropical cuíca screams and scratches -
and when you just begin to find yourself again, it slaps your red cheeks with
more whipping snares.
'Wild Pitch' is again an 808+303 jam – this time with Dresden's old school
legend DJ Smiley. The track pays tribute to and re-interprets DJ Pierre's Wild
Pitch sound from NYC's Strictly Rhythm period.
The closing track 'Feedback' switches TEE-styled Latin rhythm box variations
while layering a feedback progression ranging from subwoofer lo's to ear
piercing hi's. Flip it over! Feed it back again!
