Artificial intelligence, a sublabel of Warp.

The best of Warp records and ambient-techno from 1991 to 1998. In 1992, Warp records released the highly influential compilation Artificial intelligence that was 25 years ago. I made this mix of my favorite Warp tracks but also some other tracks released on similar influential labels at the same time such as GPR (General production recordings), Rising high records and Apollo. 1991 to 1995 was for me the best era of electronic music. Enjoy!

Artificial intelligence

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen (born 1962), a Norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient music. He is well known for his early "ambient techno" aesthetic and later for his "arctic ambient" style, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His track "Novelty Waves" was used for the 1995 campaign of Levi's. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by www.hyperreal.org  as one of the all time classic ambient albums. But over the last few years his albums (such as Cirque, Shenzou, Autour de la lune, Dropsonde and N-plants) have embodied some touches of jazz, classical, drone and even some dub-techno. While also drawing on ambient and chillout elements, ambient-techno would be associated with labels such as Warp, R&S, Apollo & GPR. Releases focused more on albums than 12-inches. The genre also departed from dance-oriented sound heard at raves and instead saw popularity as a form of electronic listening music.

Selected Ambient - Techno Works (1990 - 2020)

Music curator and a selector. Avid record collector (cd's and vinyls) and a mixologist since the late 1990's. Radio show host from 2000 to 2009. Resident DJ from 2002 to 2012. Since the 1990's, I spend upwards to 50 to 60 hours a week listening to new releases or older music. Every mix is a curation process of several months and often more than a year (especially dub techno & ambient)
