There are many different ways that the biosphere affects climate. Some produce greenhouse gases and promote warming of our planet through the greenhouse effect, while others reduce the amount of greenhouse gases promoting cooling of our planet. Thereby, by trapping heat, greenhouse gases contribute to our planet's warming and the biosphere provides the necessary environmental conditions for survival. And of course, Biosphere is the moniker of one Geir Janssen, who has been a constant influence on ambient music throughout his career. https://soundcloud.com/mattxavier has been a friend of mine for many years now. A fellow music obsessive and trusted voice when it comes to all things ambient, techno, and beyond, we finally managed to meet in person while I lived in Los Angeles, and we stayed connected over music ever since. 

We’ve swapped stories about pressing vinyl and running labels, and he was the reason I first crossed paths with Joel Mull (Damm) at one of his gatherings held at a beautiful Topanga home. It was a serendipitous moment that still echoes today. 

A proponent for the deeper layers found in music, Matt has since become a practician, ambassador, and pioneer for psychedelic soundtracking. Along the way, he shared tracks from ASIP and other labels that were influencing and guiding his private sessions, shaping the grand masterpiece we present to you today. As his practice deepened, we exchanged many texts discussing his ambition to publish a book about his unique experience and include an accompanying mix on ASIP. 

Matt’s new book, ‘The Psychedelic DJ: A Practical Guide to Therapeutic Music Curation and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy’, (https://a.co/d/5bFxc2h) is a groundbreaking manual for anyone looking to bridge sound and healing. Whether you're a clinician, a DJ, or just someone who knows the power of a well-placed track, Matt’s work will likely reframe how you think about music’s role in inner journeys.

Hello dear friends. Today, let's welcome Saphileaum for the 21th episode of the Stellar Series.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. The project was influenced by the pulsating local techno scene and strongly inspired by foreign artists like Anthony Linell / Abdulla Rashim, Acronym & Luigi Tozzi. He found his own style in deep and atmospheric techno, intepreting this in a more consciousness-expanding way while combining a variety of ambient and hypnotic soundscapes. Constantly pushing new releases on labels like NORITE, Controlled Violence and Lett Records, Saphileaum has also played alongside techno veterans like In Aeternam Vale and Stanislav Tolkachev in the past.

Here, Saphileaum provides a list of ambient, tribal and rhythmic  hypnotic soundscapes. Dive deep into the realms of esoteric and theosophical forest with the man who "sees people as they are and not as they pretend to be".

Stellar Series Episode 21 - Saphileaum (Journey To The Temple Of Dedication)

One reason why ambient-techno of the early '90s ambient/techno releases stands out as having a strong sense of the quirkily creepy in its own particular way, is the way it uses contrasting samples of a child quaveringly saying, "We had a dream last night," followed by a rougher sample saying, "We had the same dream," giving a track like the Third planet an unsettling feeling. 

Weather it uses a good dancefloor sharpness to it even as or sneaky odd drones and samples through the mix, extraterrestrial themed, or SF samples from 2001, Blade runner, DJing this music will mostly, though, things continue on a deliciously unnerving pace throughout, gentle enough to go down easy but still just off enough to ensure you can't call this new age folderol for the rave generation.
