A studio version of a piece I wrote in 2020, revised and performed in 2022. This is a recorded version of the piece, though the live performance is similar (minus some of the panning I added to the instrumentalists). 

Obfuscape (Obfuscate and Landscape) twists and manipulates recordings taken from samples of the performers. While the early samples are taken directly from that run-through, the second half of the piece uses more heavily-manipulated samples from prior rehearsals as well as samples from synthesized string instruments playing the original material in imitation.

As you listen, ponder the titles. Enjoy how the electronics develop alongside the acoustic instruments -- directly copying and manipulating as callbacks; imitating with synthesized facsimiles; creating new sounds; and finally blossoming to lead the acoustic instruments into a new harmonic and melodic space. I don't know exactly what it all means, but I know that it's representing some facet of my journey.
