Dawn and dusk in the Amazon rainforest are particularly lush when it comes to biophony, especially by a slow flowing river. The stark contrast between the beauty of birdsong and the shrill urgency of insect calls is never as evident. Long version at https://youtu.be/Rq6eMZyVFtk

The piece - Lafken Kürüf - has been composed from recordings taken in the south of Chile in 2015. Mixing various sounds of the wind and the ocean, as well as glimpses of voices, those emblematic sounds from my stay there are composed in a short piece transcribing the powerful sonic landscape that has accompany me during the three months spent in the Mapuche Lafkenche community of Traïtraïko Leufu. The noise of the wind on the rooftop of my house and the rumble from the Pacific Ocean close by kept me from sleeping at night as i would imagine it coming out from its bed, like in the Mapuche Lafkenche mythology.

The track opens with a Wren in full voice, later a Robin makes some 'ticking' calls, nearby a stream can be heard quite clearly even though it was behind an earthen bank. Sennheiser MKH8020's and a Sound Devices MixPre3.  Ballinvally Woods, north-west of Arklow, County Wicklow, Ireland.  21st of July 2020 beginning at 5.10am.  Recording 3427.

It's early morning at a dry riverbed in the Borneo rainforest. Gentle fog drip creates a subtle drawn-out rhythm while the calls of insects provide a monotonous backdrop. Long version at https://youtu.be/tfP38CFtGOk

Emba - Paragraphs [Sampl3r]

Wednesday night, playing with loops, one seven beats long, the other eight, then layering occasional accent notes. Fade in and out just turning the knob on the amp once the loops were left to their looping. Recorded to phone put in front of the amp. Not sure why the eight-beat loop is more prominent than the seven-beat one, except perhaps that it's in 4/4 so the brain registers it more easily. Also not sure about that one hiccup at :46 seconds. Something suddenly went out of alignment and then came just as suddenly back into alignment. The bit at the very end isn't a tape cassette stopping. It just sounds like that.

Wednesday Loops

Chromatic Rain

This winter first ices come one week after years shift, which is nearly two months later than in gone days. After walking one mile along the shoreline of Loukkeennokka Reef, I found some lousy ice flakes quirking with one Whooper Swan calling in the background.
