Wakes from his slumber and blinks at his phone
Fumbles for glasses, and stifles a groan
Puffs out his cheeks, runs a hand through his hair
Dave's at it again, he's just making him aware

Let's be honest, it's all wearing thin
What can he tell him, where to begin? 
They come ever faster, must be less than a year
Since he last, he promised Dave he’d lend him an ear

“Dave, Dave, please give it a rest 
You say you do it for yourself, so give that a test  
There's a big world out there and  plenty to do
And there's things I'd rather do than be listening……. to you"
            
He feels strangely uncomfortable - why should he feel guilt?
There's only so much water that Dave can push uphill
He's sure he's proud of this one, as he was of the last
But he'd love to tell him, he'd rather pass

"I promise, I promise I'll give it a listen"
"Let you know what I think   –     won’t keep you guessing"   
Cos' he likes Dave, he does, and that's the dilemma 
But he's run out of words, his promise - he might not remember
