To Dundov, “techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template for ever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions.

Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. 

His music shows you that he’s a producer with more than churning out mindless, functional and dispensable drivel on his mind. There’s a philosophy entrenched in his productions that breathes the very spirit of life and dynamism into them: “My ultimate goal as a producer and musician is to bridge the world of inspiration and physical world to the extent where the listener wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two. Music has this unique property to communicate deep emotions that are inherently in all of us. We just forgot how to use them, and my search is an attempt to revive those emotions where we all resonate as one.”

Born in Zagreb in the early ‘70s, his career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years. He counts a longstanding relationship with Belgium’s legendary Music Man records where he released many singles and albums and more recently with Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings & the excellent Renaissance Records, amongst many others.

This is a large portion of my 12 hour set at Stereo Montreal on September 28, 2024, my longest solo set ever. Missing are the first 2 hours, which I cut for better overall flow, as well as the last hour, which was not recorded as my recorder ran out of battery power.

To me, Stereo represents the absolute top of electronic music clubs worldwide. It is one of the few places that gives DJs the canvas to play long sets under near optimal conditions - an amazing sound system, great monitors, beautiful and subtle lighting and - last but not least - a knowledgeable, demanding and unified crowd.

This past July, Henry Saiz (@henry-saiz) and Edu Imbernon (@imbernonmusic) performed in The Kings Hall at Avant Gardner and we recorded their incredible b2b set. In this edition of Live @ Cityfox, we hear a blend of uniquely mixed, sustainable house grooves woven about cinematic hues—grand, evocative of differing moods, which sound harmoniously synergistic, against Imbernon’s energetic, worldly harmonies and ethereal vibes.

Since 2006, Madrid-based Henry Saiz continues to release and design music that aims to connect and to explain both art and life. Saiz’ work as a sound designer structurally informs his DJ and production work, while his untamed imagination fuels his creative flare throughout all of his work. It is this approach that makes his sound some of the most diverse and genre-bending in house music today. He founded the Natura Sonoris label in 2009, which was recognized and lauded as the best of the year by DJ Mag Spain. However one imprint wasn't enough: 2017 saw the advent of his Lost Worlds Records, on which he debuted ‘Calor’, a record from his alter-ego, Hal Incandenza. His first album as Hal Incandenza is a foray into dancey synth-pop that exhibits Saiz' versatility. The following year, Saiz evolved yet again to release Human under the alias Henry Saiz & Band, taking the synth-pop sounds of Calor and adding more intense, cinematic hues, with a strong spotlight on vocals and lyrics not heard in any of his prior EPs.

Edu Imbernon burst on to the scene in 2009 with an infectious worldly house music track co-produced by Coyu entitled “El baile alemán” (Liebe Detail, 2009), and seizing the attention of the community winning “Best Underground Track of the Year” by Beatport. He cemented his presence a year later, releasing a remix of The XX's ‘Crystalised,’ using the momentum to then start the label, party, and brand Fayer in 2012. It reflects Imbernon's music, bridging the gap between indie and electronica melodies with house and techno structure and beats. Over the past decade, his signature sound is encapsulated by the imprint: favored by partygoers from his hometown of Valencia, to the world. He's curated and remixed music from the likes of Adriatique, Maya Jane Coles, WhoMadeWho, Jonas Rathsman, and Patrice Baumel.

Since they’re both mainstays at clubs and festivals the world over, from Glastonbury to Creamfields, Sonar and Ultra, it's an absolute delight to have hosted these two for an especially uplifting travel soundscape journey on this Foxcast.
