We are writing the year 3021. The very first gene-manipulated virus-free post-covidians made it to carry their infra speakers back onto earths surface to play sublows for the concrete jungles, or whats left of them at least. They brought their ancient rituals and lullabies from their dungeons: sounding like a dark future of Dub without nice and happy skanking where only ruff and rugged dirty bone structures have remained the centuries below the planet's crust.
The tribe's chief a.k.a. The Duke Of Dub hands down two bare riddims with a jukey groove, highly detailed breakbeat layers and anything closely dubby only greeting from a very far mountain of suffaration:
Everyting Gwan In opens like an easy halftime beat, but sucks the listeners into its roughness quite fast, allowing no breath or sun inside between all them sinister soundscapes and speech scraps.
Fight Dub appears to be fried in the same pan at first, but got a slightly more stepping bass, lifting the classic breaks and vocal bits up into a merciless footwerk climax towards the end. Jah man!

With a heavyweight solo track each - longtime Sicaria Sound set staple ‘5 Skin’ by Ebb alongside Texture’s formidable ‘No Mercy’ - the flip of the record then introduces two fierce collaborative efforts via low-end driven, lively breaks.

Imagine this single as a peaceful battle between two heavy weight produbbers of the bass music scene. One like long-term 45seven hero Beam Up meets Bukkha on the other side debuting on this junglist's sunday paper of an imprint, shining in all his honour of his latest signings on System, Moonshine and Lion Charge. Them meet up to deliver two vibrating bombs of dubwise halftime Jungle bassiness:

Double Trouble (45Seven 45722)

We first came across SuM when he released his Liondub Street Series EP, which fully blew us away. Straight away plans were drawn up to make a link with him and get him affiliated with the Ghetto Dub brand. Turns out, he was already a big fan of the label and so it wasn't long before the title track 'Guided Trip' was handed to us on a piece of blotting paper. 

The finished EP is like the Soundtrack to an acid-fuelled weekend festival session, starting out with the high energy marching steppa 'Hype The Funk' on which he has collaborated with Ghetto Dubs boss-man Vinyl Junkie. The intro sets the tone with summer vibes and hedonistic rave synths before it drops into a jaw breaking bassline. Menacing vocal chants and rave signals carry you along until the 'Guided Trip' begins, lifting you up into another dimension from the dirt and grit of everyday life with the illest of bass sounds and the coolest intergalactic FX.

If that wasn't enough and you still feel the need for more funk and flavour then 'I Need Some Shroomz' will get you 'High as a Kite' and mash up your mind even more, hitting you round the head with heavy rolling basslines and shuffley toe-tapping drum rhythms. leaving you a crumpled mess on the floor. Hallucinating so heavily now that you could have sworn you were on a Star Wars film set.

Rugged Riddimz Vol 1 kicks off with SOUND SHIFTER’s erie darkside roller “Project Q” which echos the sound of jungles history with its heavily chopped up amen breaks and samples from the past. RASSTERLIN, head honcho behind the mighty Asbo imprint comes in hard and takes you on a journey that swings and sways through dark atmospherics, reggae skanks and a vocal that oozes dancehall lava. Definitely one for the “heads”. Next comes the unmistakable sounds of SUBCRIMINAL, fresh from his recent “Raised In The Hood” EP delivering a real bouncing dancefloor smasher with a cheeky steppa style beat and some cool reggae vocals reminiscent of the Clashes “Armageddon Time”. It's simply impossible not to jump around when the bassline drops. GALVATRON’s “Bam Bada” finally sees the light of day after a year of slaying down the dance on dub. Utilising his trademark heavily chopped up amen breaks and a dark rumbling reese bass, combined with that mesmerising female vocal, this tune goes off and is immense fun to mix with! A classic (and slightly cheeky) jungle sample ignites the proceeding on this final track by the man they call DUBTIME. We all know that intro, but when the drop comes it is not quite what you were expecting but you love it anyway.
