ETCH steps up to helm the next episode of the "LMD Locked On" podcast series. A three hour mix built around musical influences from the Brighton based beat scientist.

Few words about the mix by ETCH:

"I guess with a lot of studio mixes and even live i'm known for being eclectic and jumping tempos back and forth quite fast - this mix being long form allowed me to progress things a lot more in a story-telling style manner which is exactly how each track on the record plays out - I also play a lot of old house tracks because despite not being an up front influence on the record as a whole they were actually largely what I was listening to while I was writing the record, I think those particular tracks catch a timeless groove that can move seamlessly through the other genres that are in the mix and within the record, much like how people say it all started with the blues, I feel with modern electronic music it started with those house records, particularly the ones that caught a peculiar groove; I actually had a list of 300 tracks i wanted to fit into the mix and I was fully going to try and do 32 bars, 32 bars, 32 bars, 32 bars etc... but I decided to take it slow"

Fragmentation and Union on the Search for Utopia


It is not Utopia that we strive for. It is not reaching a “destination”, as Utopia is no place. It is the search for Utopia. Upon the water, the boat floats. We are in charge of the sails, and we decide which direction we move toward. On this journey, no one said it would be easy. Choppy waters and going forward into the unknown darkness of night. Yet, the stars shine, as does the moon. And from above, there is light. And when hours pass and the sunlight breaks, it simply illuminates. Simultaneously this light casts shadows on the placid watery plane. We need both on this search ~ both night and day. Symbiosis leads to quantum leaps. On this search for no place, memories arise, and with them we move ahead in awareness. Memories fragmented and fractal, morphing and merging and changing with the tides. They gather along the way into a collection of dark and shiny pieces of us. Some we choose to keep. Some we choose to free. We honor them all, for without them we would not be here, right now. On the boat. On this search. Shaping new memories as we float. The Utopian heartbeat thumps to the rhythm of just one sound. Do you hear it? Love is calling.

Here's the recording of our recent live show on Skylab. It's been so long since we've been able to get down to Melbourne we almost forgot how good a city it is. The end of the recording is actually the beginning of Other Joe's show but I've just left it in because me and Dan love that track. Also, his show was great (he played a Drake edit of his which I might have to steal for a future recording).

Anna Wall is a DJ and producer based in London. In 2021, Wall – who is also a resident at Farringdon institution fabric – launched a new label called Dream Theory. With a focus on healing sonics, ambient and experimental music, the imprint sees Wall and her cohorts exploring soundscapes that “connect to our conscious and subconscious mind”.

"If I have a day off from the world, I will often escape for a moment and float away to ambient music. It's definitely been a sanctuary for me,” says Wall. “The mix was influenced by some of the sounds that inspired Dream Theory, and my album 'Missing Moments'."

Meteoric End

This track lives in the final corridor of the anger chapter of my story “While They Were Sleeping.” The candles are flickering. The world is breaking. And the Devil  the one from a story I wrote called “The One Who Watched from the Fire”  reveals himself. Not with flames. But with doubt.

“Is This Where It Ends?” is his grand theme. The sound of urgency, fear, and the unbearable weight of almost giving up. It’s the final test: when your story is unraveling, when every version of you is falling apart, when the voices are loud and the silence is louder.

It’s cinematic. It’s chaotic. It’s spiritual fire. This is what it sounds like when the Devil asks you to surrender and you almost do.

But something  maybe memory, maybe love still burns.

Is This Where It Ends ?
